Did anyone else get any owl stuff for Christmas? I got an owl to hang on my tree and some gold sparkly owl tea lights. Also one of my gifts came in a cute owl box that I'm going to keep to put jewelry in. Hoping you're all having a wonderful holiday week!

I will say that my week sure has been a busy one, that is for sure.THanks. I wish I did get something owl related. Instead My daughter got me a frog. I can't help but say I just love him. He sits on top of my TV stand smiling at me. Oh that just sounds crazy. ;D He's a wooden frogh with tiny green spots on his belly. He has hinges on his knees and his arms and legs bend at the torso. He's taller than a barbie andjust adorable. There were lots of owl things at this store as well, but she also knows how much I love frogs. Fnagsfan..... your owls sound so cool. I"m trying to imagine in my mind the owl tea lights. They sound so fragile.

The tea lights are gold and sparkly-very pretty. I won't light them, just use them for decoration. I love frogs too, yours sounds really cute. I have one that croaks jingles bells that I put out every Christmas.

Thtat is so funny. I actually have a set of ceramic cows. Three are sitting there wearing Santa hats and are together holding up a banner. On the banner it says Jingle Bulls. Yeah... I was VERY much a collector of spotted cow things back in the 90's. Well... I happened to make a comment how I loved those particular cows... then suddenly from that day forth everyone I knew kept giving me cow things just to make me smile. And I loved it. My OWL sighting.... Today when I was walking past... the TV had That 70's Show on.... Oh that is on almost all of the time here at my house. ANyway... I remember back when I was a kid living in the 70's my mother loved owls too. That was a theme she once had in her kitchen... so today when I was watching the show, there on the shelf in the background sitting on a shelf in the kitchen was a set of brown ceramic kitchen owls. Oh it brought back cool memories.

I was just commenting on another thread how I bought a ScentSationals wickless wax fragrance warmer. They are all so beautiful. The come in all sorts of styles. I bought two. I have my eye on about two more, but I can't get them this payday.... Hey.. it's always good to look forward to something. Anyway, the one I have in here is of a ceramic owl. There a tons of fragrants you can buy for about two dollars. Potant too. I have Wild berry Cheesecake in here. Mmmm my mouths is watering it smells so good. In a few minutes I'll set up the other one in the other room. I can't decide if I want to use the Line-Dried Linen, or the Fragrant Balsam Forest. Anyway... when I can I'll take a picture of it and post it here.

I'd love to see that pic and those candle scents sound great. I'd especially like the balsam forest scent, any kind of pine in my favorite scent.

I"ll post an image of mine later this week. I have to figure out how to get the pictures from my camera. ....... WHile looking for a certain smiley I was hoping to post for someone here... I came across this in my archives of artwork. This was something my good friend Memnosyne. She's from Belgium. An artist I met at the old Alan Rickman Forum that I used to live at many years ago. At one point she and I would spend hours typing up emails to each other, talking about different ideas for Harry Potter. She's so sweet, I'd love nothing more than to have her come here. She's shy too. Eventually, when that group of friends migrated to LiveJournal.... which was the in thing before Facebook or Myspace. Anyway... I was probably the last to head that way. I missed my friends. Well, she and I had talked long about her artwork but I never knew she was actually posting it over at her LiveJournal page... because I was not there.(sound familiar with me and Facebook? ) WHen i got there I found she had dedicated several of her pieces to me... grandpalovegood/skidjit. I was so honored. Of course I was also shocked how she seemed to know things about me like she could see right through me. She drew her own vision of a house elf with watercolor and thought of me. She dedicated it to me... Skidjit. When I finally got over there I found it. I was so shocked and had to ask her how she knew that I saw myself to be a house elf more than anything else in the HP world? It was as if she saw ME and how I saw myself without us ever talking about it. I guess that comes along with spending so many hours a day with a good friend. Well, her sweet, modest personality as well as her true talent gained her a huge... and i mean HUGE following on LiveJournal. She was blown away... so humbled and nearly speechless that her work spread like wildfire through that community. She litterally had thousands of friends she did not know in such a short period of time. It frightened her at first.. very overwhelming. Anyway, LiveJournal had to shut her account down due to too many people trying to gain access to see her work. She's not well off and so a mutual friend offered to upgrade her account and litterally paid for it for her. You could feel her tears of gratitude the near total strangers would do this for her. I guess you can tell I am missing my dear friend from a few years ago. Anyway.... I found these. She also made these for me as a gift. They each have a meaning behind them. "You've got mail" This one is to say that she has an email that she just sent me. Just a reminder that I need to go look for it. "Forgot something" Then this one goes along with the House elf she made for me. You might/might not remember my posting an elf wearing hats and hanging his laundry of socks out on a clothes line. Well... this particular owl is to tell me that she forgot something she wanted to add to the email she just sent. Just thought I'd share my owls with you.

I know Facebook is a way that a lot of us will keep in touch. I do have an account that i have said it's ok for this person and that can friend me... Even though I don't really use my Facebook account, I know that I will have it as a back up in case there might be a day when Proboards might just go down... in other words, we might loose this site..... My new owl... I finally asked my hubby what he's been workign on. He likes to do those intricate paint by number kits. They turn out just beautiful... especially the more expensive kits. Well, he told me it's of an owl. Cool... I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I have a question about Owls and I don't know if it's true or not--can owls get rid of gophers who dig up people's lawns?
I've made greeting cards with owls on them. they are fun to do, especially if you have the owl paper punch. I've cross-stitched owls too.

We don't have gophers here, but moles dig up our yard all of the time. I do think that owls eat rodents so why not a gopher? Cross stitch? I have not done that in years. I'll bet yours is pretty. fangsfan.... I have taken a pretty good picture of that owl wax warmer. Problem is, I can't find the dodad that hooks my clippy chip thing from my camera so I can plug it into my computer for uploading. I'm going to keep looking for it today.

OH I WANNA SEE ONE AROUND HERE!!! Really, I'll tell you one thing, I HAVE noticed there are more owls out this year than before. I really have to take a very close look, which is hard when you are driving down the road, but our normal owls are so similar looking to the different types of hawkes around here, it's easy to get them mixed up. The only thing different are the owls are a tad larger and also have a larger domed shaped head. When they sit on a power line, they weigh it down quite a bit. A couple of weeks ago my daughter and I were completely shocked to see an actual bald eagle fly overhead. THey are on the endangered species list in my state. There was no question what it was... especially with the large wing span and the white head with the rest of the feathers all black. That most definately was no turkey buzzard. It's the second one I've seen here in three years.... well for that matter in all of my life aside from zoo's. White owls? Down this far? I wonder if this might be why I am seeing our usual owls out more these days? OR... Maybe VOldemort really did exist and now he's dead. It's a bummer to be a muggle. THanks Erin for posting this link. WOW!

A fellow skating coach by the name of Lee Meadows, who I have known since I was 5 years old is in Lake Placid right now for a major skating competition.
He has been posting images of this stunning Owl that is now the mascot at the restored Lake Placid Inn...
Apparently only the owner/handler can actually hold him but boy is he beautiful. I am really enjoying seeing the images of the Owl and the surrounding areas of Lake Placid. It all brings back very fond memories

OH I love fond memories. Those of my own as well as seeing people light up over their own. Great times are always a pleasure to relive.
...
I went on a day trip yesterday. Then on our way home, I saw what has to be the largest owl I've ever seen. The Great Horned owl is what I'm thinking... I've just now looked them up online to see if I was right but I never could find something that looked exactly like it. This one looked to be about a foot or two across and was very tall... thick. The tummy was a light solid color (maybe gray or tan) where the rest of it was a very dark brown or black... feathery design. The head had those power eyebrows or as other say horns. No doubt about that. It was huge.... longer than my arm. We were riding down the road and didn't have time to turn back or I would have taken a picture of it. It was so cool. !

Yesterday I went to the store with my daughter. Then she yelled STOP! I did, then she pointed at a purse clear down at the end of an isle. She said, "Look... an Owl purse." Wow... now I have her spotting owls. LOL
