Did anyone notice the solar powered Hedwig Duddahs found in Newport while on vacation to add to his garden? He lights up at night and glows white and his eyes shine too.

For fun, I change my desktop picture every day, now that I have better internet it's easier for me to do this. Today I chose a painting of a barn with horses, pigs, kittens and children in it. When I got it bigger on the desktop, to my surprise there is a whole family of owls in the rafters!

A couple owl things for me lately. First, I got a really cool owl for my birthday-he is motion activated and hoots and turns his head and his eyes light up when you walk by. He will be fun on Halloween. Also I went to the Fryeburg Fair today, lots of quilts in the expo with owls on them, very well done too.

As many times as I walk by my town's newspaper office I never noticed this. I looked up today and saw a big grey owl (not real) on the roof looking down at me. Not sure how long it has been there but I immediately thought of this thread here at the Lounge. Now my sister tells me that these owl statues are often used to keep off birds from doing damage to flat roofs-I never knew that.

I find this so funny that you found it ON TOP of your newspaper office building. Oh how fitting.
I never knew about these owls until a couple of years ago. Around here, we often travel through a bunch of rinky dink towns just to get to a main road we want to travel on. One day I noticed one on the pointed top of some town's town hall. Hubby told me what you were told. I've often heard that they are also placed on fence posts near gardens to ward off snakes. However, this is a myth.

Wow, its been a while since we posted on this one! I got a little book about owls in my Christmas stocking. It's really for kids but I found it very interesting and lots of great pix. It says there are at least 155 species of owls, I had no idea!

That is so cool Duddahs, the babies must be adorable. On explore.org they have several owl cams and one showed a mother with babies in the nest-lots of fun to watch.

This last weekend I didn't see an owl, but we visited a town with owl in it's name-Owlshead, Maine. We visited family there, a beautiful little town and I did see a deer and a blue heron while I was there.

Duddahs may not be seeing or hearing more than the one family of Owls at Longbrook Park this year but we sure do have more than our share of Skunks and Raccoons galore! Poor Monty took a full on face hit from a skunk recently but the Raccoons are wreaking havoc! They may be part niffler and parts snifflers!

Just came back from a really fun long weekend at Boothbay Harbor. Went to the Botanical Gardens which was just amazing. One of the best parts was the children's garden. They had a treehouse and on the way to it there were all these little bird figurines with you guessed it-two little owls.

We have baby owls, two by the sounds, Hopes the warm weather helps these late year beauties make it through the Autumn weather here in southern New England. It is a bit late in the season for hatchlings but Duddahs has his talons crossed for their success.
Our Longbrook Park white squirrel s are very active too. Two this year and they seem to have three playful grey squirrels as companions.
Here is to their making it through the winter and continuing to entertain the park visitors

I've been watching a long eared owl on explore.org. I haven't been able to get on that site much but since I downloaded Foxfire I've been able to get on some of the slower sites again.

Duddahs hears the owl at the park his nest resides but has not spotted any in a year. He hopes your Firefox brings all of my kind into your home as we are a truly special species.
