OH MY GOODNESS!!!! In honor of our lost Duddahs.... most likely flying around out in the storm... I've decided to post this thread.. A thread I've had in mind to start for many months now for many reasons. Seems like everywhere I go I see an owl. I have them flying around outside my house... I see them many places out in the stores I shop... where I work... the mall.... figurines... jewelry... Halloween decorations... every time I read the HP series. EVERYWHERE. SO.... I thought it would be fun since there are many different kinds of owls that we could find to create a thread where we can see how many we can come up with. I don't care if it's a quote from any of the books... something you saw out in public.. Post it... describe it.. Lets see how many we can get. Harry Potter ones or not... this could be a place to post owl stories if we know of any... HEY the Tootsie Roll lollypop owl. ;D I mean... I was not but five minutes in the grocery store to purchase some punch only to find some socks with owls on them. Here I come home to check to see if I have any owls from the Pottermore site. ;D Lets see if this thread can take flight.. How many can you find... and I know you will spot them all over the place now that you have them in mind.

We saw some owls on Friday. Barn owls...at the zoo. One was in it's enclosure, and the other was in the bird show, and it flew around for a bit!

Not sure what kind of owls they are though. ;D

We have Owls in the park where I live and one of their trees came down in the storm.
The bid ole daddy owl just sits on the remants of what lays on the ground at night now. Not sure where he will go when they clean up the park of the downed trees.
The town and streets have to be taken care of first. The park is secondary but still important as that particular tree is partially in the lake that also means it blocks the walkway around the lake.

I wonder what will happen to him too? Maybe you all will be lucky and he might find a new nesting place within the same area.
When I used to live out in the country, ours was huge. It would fly the same route every night and if I were outside it would swoop down low near me... not diving towards me but just flying low. It was beautiful but it was too dark to make out what type it was. But it always flew from the huge big tree along the back of the property, catty cornered towards a huge tree just past my back yard and to the front of my front yard... the treeline we had our house right next to. It was huge. I wonder if they eat bats? Seemed like they were few of them as time went by. Once the owl stopped showing it's self, the bats slowly but surely returned.
.....
What I was going to post.... There is a field I pass most mornings, while I drive my short driveacoss town. In that field they have huge round hay bales. I noticed several days this week two huge hawkes just sitting on the same one, facing each other. It was strange to see two in such close proximity. Each time my first thoughts are that they are owls... then I rememebered our owls are much larger around here and not in town.

We do have both Owls and Bats at our park and I know for sure that the Owls eat the bats too.

I was so tickled to see this thread because I saw owls on my vacation! We went to the Gray Animal Farm (Maine Wildlife Park) a place I've never been to and always wanted to go. There were several owls-some beautiful little sawhet owls and screech owls too. The lady there said they all have had either wing injuries or eye injuries and can't return to the wild-so this is a good and safe sanctuary for them.

The tree has now been removed from the park. The Owl seems to have moved to another tree in the lower section of the park where the swing sets are.
Hope he stays.

Well, that is good to hear. I hope he stays too. I know I miss the owl I spoke of earlier. I always wondered what happened to him/her. OK... I have an owl to speak of today. Last night at work, I was put in the housewears department for the first part of the night. WHen I was looking for where something was, I turned a corner only to find a display of cloth lunchboxes. Half of them were covered with little owls. Each owl was looking in a different direction. Boy.. I wish I could get my owl this week. *runs off to check my mailbox* tootles

I always get lots of mail order catalogs in the mail. The other day I got one called Wild Wings-in the middle were two pages of beautiful owl sculptures-had to put that in this thread.

Ooo yes... a while back I got an email from one of my favorite stores called, Tuesday Mornings... I'm on their mailing list. Anyway, one ad they had a set of beautiful expensive crystall owls... sort of cut like a diamond. I loved the images so much I saved them to my pictures... now where are they now? I have no idea. LOL.

I love the HGTV Television Show House Hunters.
While going through a whole list that I have DVR'd I played one back from last month that took place in Jacarta Java Indonesia.
There was a part of the show where the young lady who was looking for a house near the French School she had taken a job at was walking through the open markets.
There she and her friend stopped and were playing with a pair of Baby Owls that a seller had to offer for sale.
That must be so cool to just be able to buy yourself a baby owl like that! I did it with Bull Frogs a few years back and released them into the water in front of my house.
Unfortunately kids come every spring just as they begin to get loud and steal them. I wish they would leave them alone and let them propagate.

I like that show too-my sister got me into watching it. When they have the part where they have to choose between 3 houses, I ask her to guess which one they'll pick and she almost always gets it right.

A little blue tin pail. There is a theme of children's preschool books with a little blue owl wearing reading glasses... He's the teacher owl.

Got home from work and my Halloween order had come in! Little toys to put in the Trick or Treat bags-stickers, bubble blowing stuff in Halloween bottle, bookmarks, pumpkin necklaces-and little crafty owls that you have to put together. My sister and I will look at them this weekend and I'll post here later to say how they turn out.

The 2nd grade is putting up a display where each student gets an owl with their name on it, and they write a little bit about themselves...the title? WHO are you? Very cute!

I'm so glad that halloween is coming. I always love to go to the craft stores to see what trinkets they have to make or give out to the trick o treaters.
I love that idea you posted. The WHO are you writing assignment. The inventive ways a teacher can reach their students.

I think that's a really cute idea too. Owls seem to be the in thing this year. I always liked them from when I was a small child and Harry Potter brought it all back to me.
