My sister and I did some shopping today and we went into this big indoor flea market. Almost the first thing I saw was a big wall of cat plates! It reminded me of Umbridges' office and also of Miss Charlotte because I remember she liked the cat plates too.

We had a test session at the Ice Box that I work at and while I was waiting and watching with my students to take their tests, one little girl who could not have been older than 6 years old came out and skated her first freestyle test to Hedwigs theme...
I could not help but smile when I realized that she was one of my little ones from my previous rink that I ran the Mom and Tots program at... She was 3 back then and now seemed so grown up that I was shocked.
And YES, she did in fact pass her test (she had tested her moves in the field earlier in the afternoon so she actually passed 2 tests yesterday.
Her mom and she came over and sat with us afterward and we all watched together. Her mom had not known which rink I had moved to since I was contractually not allowed to tell anyone who was not a present private student where I was relocating to.
Turns out they are going to switch to me as they have not been thrilled with the coaching at my past rink since I left a year and a half ago.

Just read your post duddah... YAY for you and your students and their parents. I just thought I'd add this edit to the top of this post since I found your post only after I typed this one up. ====================================== OK... These people here in Arkansas are completely nuts... I say NUTS!!!! I was just watching the news reports about a new set of tornadoes blowing through this state right now. The one that went near here, I really didn't get much rain.. but on the other side of town they had some hail and that was it. No other damage. So now they are covering other parts of the state that I have never heard of before. I laughed when I saw one went near a town called Lockhart... Yep Lockhart. Then my gaze went over to the side of the doppler radar screen while watching that possible tornado in Lockhart to another town... What sort of people would name a town Wiener? Can you imagine telling people you were born in a town called Wiener? Anyway, Lockhart seems to be alright... It's in the clear.

I had a good laugh today. I drove down James street when I was in the town next to my own. Then when I came home I had to drive down Myrtle street. Don't we just love our potter names here in my neck of the woods? ;D

Our 3rd grades did their favorite character book reports today...they had to dress up as a character, and give clues as to who they were. In one class, there was Harry, Dumbledore, and Dobby! Awesome!

I have found the Harry Potter series to be one of the very best teaching tools of all time.

This was a free choice book, so 3 from one series among 18 kids was neat! They each stood in front of the class as their character, and gave clues about who they were (they had to give some personality clues, and some of the facts and events involving their character). They all did a great job!

Yeah those are the times you never forget at school. I'll bet those kids had a ball just as you did watching them. Soooo cool.
.....
Right now My Harry Potter deja vu....
I'm finally calming down after an adrenalin rush that had hold of me for a long while. In fact I'm still itching everywhere. This evening after karate class I took my daughter over to her friend/boyfriend's house. Well, I was not sure if I was at the correct place of if they were home at all. I went up to the two story house in front of the smaller house that turns out is where they live... The two story house in fact belongs to the parents of the boy's mom's boyfriend. LOL... So I walked up and knocked on the main house's door to make sure I was at least where I was supposed to be. Yes... I was. SO I turned to walk back down the walk towards where I parked. I was stopped in my tracks. A HUGE tranchela was startled when I nearly stepped on it. I thought it was a big leaf. No big deal right? Once I saw what it really was my toes curled up. Yep... a baby aragog popped into my mind. Well, really it was not as big as my hand, but close enough. I kinda had a freak out right there in the middle of the woods. It was light brown. The lady who lived in the big house said normally they only get black ones... not what this one was. So, right now I'm itching. It's still alive. So with that knowledge I know I most definatly will have nightmares tonight. *cries*

I'm still itching over the thought of such a large creature living nearby. So just to learn more about them I've taken to look them up online. Seems this has to be the one. It fits the description of what they have done in past years. I have been told stories of how about 30 years ago a massive migration of sorts took place. (The website said they do this looking for a mate.) There were so many to the point people remember often running them over as they cross the road. I saw a large one once and refused to admit it was anything more than a large leaf blowing across the road. Then knowing I was wrong, I would not allow the person driving to turn around to take a closer look. That was when I was told stories of those many years past. A few years later, a friend who grew up in Hot Springs began to tell me about the same event... they often were seen crossing the road to the point you could not help but run them over. Oh this gives me the creeps because I've never seen nor heard of such a thing aside from these eye witnesses. She validated the tales I was told by others who sometimes love to tease me about my fear of spiders. I personally hoped they were just trying to be mean.. I can take that better than actually seeing one of these in the wild. So the only ones I've ever seen were hiding under rocks as babies. I learned never to turn over rocks.. This is an image of one called the Oklahoma Brown. The website said that they are also known to live in Texas and Missouri. OK... stops to scratch some more. Aragog! Please keep your babies in the forest!!!! I nearly stepped on one that looked just like this the other day. about four or five inches long. i56.TP .com/2j4oci8.jpg[/img]

Wow that is one scary looking spider!
I have been having HP name deja vu lately. First this week I saw chipmunks in the woods and I was remembering my Uncles chipmunks at his camp when we were kids. They would eat out of your hands and he named them Freddie and Grabbie. I realized they were twins, they were F and G like Fred and George, and one of them was even a Fred! Then when we were watering and planting at the cemetary for Memorial weekend. I was looking at my Paternal Grandmother Lillian's stone. My aunt had told me they wanted to name her Lily but on the birth certificate for some reason they put Lillian and it stuck. Then looking at the stone I realized her middle name was Myrtle, another Potter name!

Ick! that spider! Yuck!
I put massive amounts of gel in my hair yesterday, and let it dry curly. My 5 year old said..."hey Mom...you look like Hermione!" LOL Then this morning, I was watching "Supernanny" when he woke up and came in our bedroom. He watched for a few minutes and then said "She sounds just like Hermione." I haven't over-Pottered him, have I?! LOL
We have Potter names here, too. 2 of us (including me) have quidditch player names, and my other son has a fairly major character's name as well. (Miss C...if you look on Facebook, you'll see what they are!) I can't think of any Potter characters to match my husband, though...nope...not even a quick search came up with anything!

I feel like knocking mysefl in the head. MY first name is a Harry Potter name. Well, it's spelled differently... and is for the wrong gender. Me a girl and he a boy Ravenclaw. No one else in my family. OH and my little brother's first name is one of Albus Dumbledore's. Oh I have a great grand daddy who is a Daniel. My dad's first name is the same as one of the actors who played one of the DADA teachers. OH and that same great grand daddy was married to a Minnerva. OH wow.. I"ll bet with time I could come up with more.
Oh Erin.. I know I have friended you.. or I think I have. Really that place makes me scratch my head. I have or THINK I have friended a few of you and when I go click on somehing that I think I'm looking at my front page... no one is there besides my daughter. I think I may need to dedicate a whole afternoon just to figure out my way around there better. But that won't be today. I was up yesterday afternoon instead of getting a long hard sleep. SO I'm sleep typing right now.
got to go. good night
edited to add: come back to say on my mom's side back a few generations I'm related to Browns..... Oh Id die if there was a Lavender in there somewhere.
but on my dad's side back a few generations, I'm related to Smith's. I can't remember much about Zachariah? hmm? But then there is alway Maggie. Oh that would be an honour!

The other day I took my daughter over to her friends house. Now, she's been to our house pleanty of times. It never occured to me that I've never been to hers. Well, I sat in the car while my daughter went to see if her friend could come over to spend the night. Then just sitting there, looking around I noticed a cauldron hanging by a set of two chains within a barrel ring. There as something green growin in it. It looked as though something was bubbling over. Yep.. a Potions moment for me that made me smile.

MY Harry Potter Deja-vu. This morning, on my way home from work, I was listening to my favorite radio channe,l like usual. Every day these DJ's have something crazy to discuss... to have callers phone in to give their own two bits about. This morning, the subject was, 'wild things you are accused of doing that you have not.' One of the DJ's that I listen to happens to have several strange tatoo's. Everyone who has listened to this station long enough, knows he keeps loosing bets and so ends up with something strange tatooed on his skin. Well, this led to the topic of tatoo's. Then they asked who has any that are not the usual? One caller called in saying they are a Harry Potter fan and has a Harry Potter tatoo. Well... this station has a website and they get more people texting or sending in their calls via the computer somehow... I wish I could have heard the caller instead of them reading a message this person left. I wonder what sort of Harry Potter Tatoo this person has. They live in my area! I don't know if this person is a guy or a gal.
