Not far enough.... How's this one for you? In YOUR mind's eye....... What do you think happened to Umbridge after the Centaurs took off with her. If I remember correctly Dumbledore sent Snape out into the forest to retrieve her or they would have kept her... But during that missing time... WHAT?

Miss Charlotte I always wonder about this when I read that part. Dumbledore must have felt there was danger if he sent someone to rescue her. Some of those centaurs always seem to me as if they could be violent-and didn't they beat Firenze up when he dishonored them by teaching for Dumbledore? I always wonder in the back of my mind whether they would actually kill someone if they were angry enough. At the very least, I'm awfully afraid they would have done physicial damage to Umbridge and that's why DD sent out a rescue. I think they had her a prisoner during the time you are asking about and were probably having a meeting to decide how best to punish her. And this is why I adore and admire Firenze so much because I'll bet he was arguing against violence and trying to be the voice of reason-thus giving Snape more time for his rescue. I'd like to be a fly on the wall to hear what was said between the two of them when Snape was bringing her home-but maybe she was passed out by that time!

In my minds eye, after the battle of Hogwarts, I could imagine the teachers and wizarding community coming together and using reparo to rebuild Hogwarts..
Do you think they performed any additional construction to the castle that may not have been there to begin with?

In my minds eye, after the battle of Hogwarts, I could imagine the teachers and wizarding community coming together and using reparo to rebuild Hogwarts.. Do you think they performed any additional construction to the castle that may not have been there to begin with? I always imagined that the castle was added onto from time to time. The school that the founders created was perfect for that time.. but as needs changed they needed more room... more classrooms... more teachers... more staff. So YES... I think after the school was pretty much demolished that much would have been the same... but I could see they would use this time to tweak it up a bit.. make changes.Great question because now I wonder what more could they do to make it better?Come to think about it.. I think it was on one of those behind the scenes shots, one of the people who were deciding on things for the Gray Lady in DH2, they said they wanted her to seem like she was walking in what would have been in her time a walkway and a doorway. This was no longer a walkway so she appeared to be walking on air and through a wall. So I think the creators of the films think Hogwarts would have changed as time went on. I too have a question about the school... but I'll wait until others might take the chance to post what they believe is the answer to Duddah's question.

In my minds eye.. The Whomping Willow may have played a part in helping to defend Hogwarts during the Battle of Hogwarts..
What say you all?

I love that idea Duddahs and I'll bet you're right. I can picture death eaters running by and the willow grabbing them or tripping them up. The whole castle had so much magic in it that could have helped in the battle-I can see the suits of armor fighting and I wonder if the ROR had an even bigger part than was told in the book.

I guess, in my mind's eye about the Willow tree playing part in the battle... Much different than what you guys mentioned. I see that many of the DE's also went to school there.. Not all are so old, but many young. They would have thought ahead and probably set fire to it... get it out of the way.
I like your ideas better... they are much more positive than mine was on this one count.

In my minds eye, the Whomping Willow would shed seeds that would then in turn float on the breeze.
I wonder what other places Whomping Willows might grow once the seeds land and germinate?

In YOur Minds eye.... We are told that Filch is the ONLY person that ever stays the entire year long up at the school... every summer too. SO I wonder what you guys see him doing every summer, even if there are a few students staying or none at all?

See I always figured that they did take a break of some sort to go on a vaction... maybe not the whole summer long. It was JKR who said that Filch was the only one who never leaves the school all year.
I've also wondered why? I mean, I've wondered if maybe because Dumbledore had to make some sort of exception to the spell where non magical people could see or at least enter Hogwarts in the same way that magical people could. I wondered if Filch left, then he could not enter back unless Dumbledore did something.
Still, my question stands... What would Filch be doing there at the school during summer breaks every year?

In my minds eye;
Filch would have to work all summer in order to clean and prepare the castle for the upcoming school year as well as preparing all of the House dorm rooms for the new and older year students.
Also there is the care of the potions, plants in the greenhouses, the procurement of the schools supplies as well as someone having to clean up after the schools owls in the owlery.
