Here we all are... shimmying down the aisle to get to our seats... trying not to step on anyone's toes.. balancing a bucket of popcorn and a drink in our hands hoping to NOT spill it on anyone's heads.. AH there it is.. the empty few seats. The lights are still on, but the film has yet to begin.. Yep that goofy preview slide show with movie trivia is being seen right now. SO this is the time to settle down to talk about movies with our friends.. YOU. SO like the television board section I set this thread up for a discussion of movies just to see if anyone else here has an opinion that might just spark off a new movie thread of it's own. Hey someone please pass the popcorn.. I'm hungry.

My aunt and I were talking today about how some movies don't get great reviews but when you see them you really like them. One for me was Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts as a teacher. I hadn't thought I'd like it from the reviews but got to watching it when it came on tv and found it really interesting.

well, i do check the reviews, but i don't pass judgement on a critic's opinions, because that's what they are, opinions. i'd rather watch because i wanted to see it...i tend to ask friends what they thought of the movie and as they have similar tastes as i do, i tend to listen more to their opinions.
so many movies i love, HP of course, the rocky series, south park movies, shrek 1 and 2, back to the future trilogy, snowcake, finding nemo, star trek 1 and 4, my bodyguard, howard stern's private parts and loads of others.

JB, I agree with what you say about asking friends-especially if you know they like the same kinds of movies as you do. Here are some of my all time favorites: Amadeus, CLose Encounters of the Third Kind, Breaking Away, It's a Wonderful Life, Cold Comfort Farm, Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, School of Rock, Pleasantville, Wizard of Oz, Love Actually, My Cousin VInnie, A Fish Called Wanda, His Girl Friday, Shawshank Redemption. And many more!

Oh...I like the ones that deal with the supernatural...in a realistic way...not the ones that are so obvious as to be laughable...ones that seem like they could be true. Movies like "The Sixth Sense" and 'The Others".

She and her dad had been watching experpts of some of their works over the internet... things we didn't already have in the living room. I love movies period... so many differnt kinds too. I love how there seems to be something no matter what mood I'm in. Sometimes I love something to scare the begeebees outta me... Not gross me out.. Yes I loved the Sixth Sense. We saw it at the movies. Was blown away about how it turned out. I never saw that one coming.. Hubby didn't want to see The Others but I loved it. I went to see it alone one afternoon. I couldn't get that out of my mind how that one really surprised me too. The Villiage is another good one. Love films... Yes.. I've been watching the Jane Austin filcks. Oh and The Cutting Edge, Immortal Beloved, The Scarlet Letter are also ones I like. Then the love comedies... Sleepless in Seattle, While you were Sleeping, Serendipity, Truth about Cats and Dogs, Runaway Bride, Sweet November, Much Ado About Nothing, Cassanova, Bridgeit Jones, Other films... Gosford Park, King Kong, Jurasic Park, Pirates of the Carribean, Titanic, The Patriot, LOVED Medicine Man, First Knight, Finding Neverland, Coal Miner's Daughter, Congo, Brother's Grimm, Apolo 13, Clash of the Titains, Young Guns, Cool Runnings, Chaplin, Selena, Deloris Clayborne, Finding Forrester, Kid films..... Willy Wonka (the old one), THe Secret Garden, The Sound of Music, any Peter Pan, Ice Age and Shrek, Finding Nemo, Elf.. Yeah that dumb movie, Ella Enchanted, A Christmas Story, Hook, Willow, Darby OGill and the Little People, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and BroomSticks, Babe. Fantasy.... Avatar, Star Trek, Spiderwick Chronicles, Star Wars, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Reign of Fire, Raiders of the Lost Ark etc, any of the Planet of the Apes, The Prestige, Lord of the RIngs, The Illusionist, Greystoke the ledgend of Tarzan, Excalibur, The Core, Dreagon Heart, Merlin with Sam Neil, X Files and Stargate, Super hero films... I can't remember what thread it was on... but where we were talking about Italy. Fangsfan mentioned something about memories a family member shared with her from when they were stationed there and how lovely it was. Well... I'll have to recommend the movie Letter's From Juliet. I just watched it and LOVED it. I have to buy it when I can. This one is due back to Blockbusters tomorrow. But it has the memories I once had of being in France and Italy... driving along the winding roads.. the wine orchards.. the cobblestoned roads... the little villages... the statues.. the people. Oh so beautiful and true to the spirit of the locations. Then there was the story.. I like the girl who played the lead... then Vanessa Redgrave did a superb job. There was so much fun and more. Then for the guy girl relationship it brought back my own memories of a certain Mr. Robbins who just used to push my buttons once upon a time... He brought out the worst in me while at the same time I had a hard time getting him out of my mind. Every time I watch a film like this he pops in there still... WHY? He drove me NUTS! SO arrogant.. so infuriating... so... Grrrr. It never would have worked out for us but still... It's a good movie. ;D

I think I saw commercials about that movie and thought it sounded good Miss C. They had the movie My Left Foot on tv the other day, a favorite of mine that I hadn't seen in a long time. It's a true story about Christy Brown who had I think it was Cerbral Palsy and painted and wrote with his foot. I especially loved the way he was so feisty-had a temper and not one to be pitied at all. It said his mother had had 22 children, thirteen of whom survived. A very inspiring movie, I never get tired of it.

You know... I've heard of that movie that you are talking about but never saw it. I didn't know what it was all about. Huh? Funny isn't it? WHY didn't I hear about it? LOL!
The movie I mentioned above was good. I plan to get it... maybe for christmas.

Rented a couple of movies Sunday eve from Red Box.. Was not feeling too well so the movies made me feel better..
First, rented Prince of Pesia...Great visual movie, kind of numb storie line but still pretty good just for an entertainment movie..
Second movie was a smaller movie but really great.. It was called City Island... LOVED IT! I have been to City Island a number of times as there is a Restaurant I like there so I could really relate a bit to it. Loved Andy Garcia.. One that you must see if you love just great feel good movies.
Thanks to Red Box who now has movies in Blue Ray! YAY!

I've never been to red box. I'm so old school it seems like I want to get a soda pop out of those not a movie. I think what I worry about... Do they really have a good selection? How do they do that?.. But since I don't recognize either of these films you mention... Hmm? makes me wonder... Honestly, they are the only thing left in this town where we can rent. I have been going to the next town since Movie Gallery closed down. Still... just like the one I mentioned above.. I do love feel good movies. Movies that make you smile and you don't realize that you are doing so until someone points it out to you.

Marky Marks role is actually a spoof of his normal roles..

My favorite movie with him in it is Planet of the Apes. Then I have seen him in a movie when he was younger... terrorizing Reese Witherspoon and her father William Peterson.. I think it was called 'Fear.' Now that was a scary movie.. Mark Walburg really did some acting there.. or I hope. I have not really seen him in much of anything else that I can think of off hand.

marky mark (mark wahlberg) is a very good actor, glad he got into acting, because his music was nowhere near as good!

marky mark (mark wahlberg) is a very good actor, glad he got into acting, because his music was nowhere near as good! Wasn't he a rap star? ;D Actually when he was singing, it was all about him being half naked on stage. His singing style made him a CRAP Singer and not even Rap. He was really just Danny Walburgs little brother then who wore his pants down below the bottom of his behind.. Pants of the floor, pants on the floor, looking like a fool with your pants on the floor.

indeed, he was a CRAP star ;D i don't know what the obsession is with the entertainment industry moguls...making their charges dress half naked, it's stupid and doesn't impress me at all. sex sells, indeed...sad, really!
i'm a musician, but i certainly don't see the need to flop about onstage in sleazy attire. i'm a MUSICIAN, not a prostitute ;D music comes first and that's what i want to present to my audience.
