I finished The Queen of the Tearling and am now reading the Invasion of the Tearling-I guess there's one more book after that. Love this series so far, has anyone else read it?

I've never heard of it before. What's it about?

Miss C, so sorry I did not get back to answer your question. Not too good at summarizing but basically it's a fantasy series about a nineteen year old woman who is heir to a kingdom. (The Tearling), and the problems she faces and getting to know and interact with her staff. The second book has a lot of backstory that explains a lot. I loved both and can't wait for the third.
I'm very excited because I'm finally doing something I have wanted to do for a while-rereading the whole HP series! I just started the first book yesterday. Also rereading an old book I always loved, The Gentleman from Indiana by Booth Tarkington. I found my copy, falling apart but I can still read it, and my copy published in 1902 but I still love it! It won the Pulitzer Prize too.
And I've also gotten out my book of Christmas stories by Maeve Binchy, This Year It Will Be Different. I read it almost every year.

Wow, just read this about Queen of the Tearling which I mentioned earlier-had not heard about this before.
If a battle between good and evil is more your jam, then The Queen of the Tearling will be right up your alley (and bonus, Emma Watson is set to star in its adaptation!).

Wow. That's cool. I was wondering when we will be seeing one of the trio in another film or project. Also, I think it's cool when a film is made from a book. It's always interesting to SEE someone else's visualization of a book/story you already know.
Funny when you mentioned rereading a book you have that is so old. I have been thinking of ATTEMPTING to try to read the Silmarillion again. Last time it I was not successful. My copy is a couple of decades old. I also would like a hardback version. Much easier for me to hold. I have mentioned to my hubby that would be something cool for Christmas.
Anyway, how do you hold the pages together in your book? Seems so old that it would be falling apart by now. Also, I've never heard of those Christmas stories before. I think I'm more used to children's books.

JB, I loved Insomnia, I want to reread it again sometime too. Really an inspiring lead character and I loved the idea of everyone having their own "aura."

I agree. I remember how different the film was from the book. I think there will be a lot of good things I liked about both that I'd love to post on a spree.

Rereading GOF, almost finished. And have started reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children-very good so far. Whoa!!! I just finished reading the Prologue. I decided to come in here and post that I'm reading this book. (I'm so glad I can finally read books again.)
I had seen this book several years ago at the bookstore and thumbed through it. I saw the pictures and thought it was supposed to be something other than what it is. The other day I had seen the advertisement for it to come out in theaters. I figured since (I think) Tim Burton might be making the movie, I'd much rather read it before I go see it. He can really change the whole perception of things.
I'm kind of thinking it's like Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events books, or maybe like Spiderwick, but of course it's it's own story.
I LOVE the pictures I've seen so far. I'm going back to the book in a sec.
Fangsfan, since you started this book about a month ago, how do you like it?

fangsfan1 This book is pretty good. I'm already at the part where he meets the bird lady. I wish I picked this book up a year or so ago when I first found it. Still, wondering what you think of it. Or anyone else here. I can imagine Erin reading this to her kids. There's a few places where there's bad language, but so far it's pretty good.

I'm leaving these comments here, knowing you will find them whenever you do get a break from life to be able to peek in. (I know that feeling all too well.) Anyway...
Just wanted to say I finished the book yesterday morning. I really liked it. My copy of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children has the movie image on front. Not to mention some images from the film in the back of the book. From what I can tell, they are trading Emma and Olive for the movie, but keeping the names.... Hmm? Let me say it better. They look like they are keeping Emma's storyline the way the book has it. But instead of her being the one with the power of fire, they are making her be the blonde girl who floats. I hope I'm wrong about it. Still, I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out soon.
OH! When I started reading this book, I was not aware that it's the first in a series. I need to go look up to see if the second book is out yet or when it's due so I can get it as soon as I can.
I loved all of the photo's in the book. At the back of my copy they had an interview with the author. His writing style is much like mine. I like to get pictures then study them for a while. I like to wonder who this person was, then what are they doing, what was their life like, then my story would form in my head. I know I've shared with everyone here that in my first role play group I played the part of LadyNAPortrait who was Rose Malfoy, Lucius' great grandmother's portrait from when she was young. This portrait hung in the library of the manor. Long story short, my controbution to the role play was not only to silently greet the guest who visited the manor thread, but during quiet mornings, I'd post short stories I called my "Rose Stories". I used to go to the mall where there was a store that sold nice paintings. I also researched art galleries online. Whenever I found just the right painting/portrait a story would form in my mind.... just like this author did. I'd tell my story about Rose's adventure into that portrait/painting. Reminds me a lot like Mary Poppin's sidewalk chalk pictures. It was such fun!
EDITED TO ADD:
I guess I'm going to the bookstore soon.

I really liked them too, Miss C. I have read the first two so far. I loved the photos as well, couldn't believe he could find all those and brilliant to make stories based on them!

I really liked them too, Miss C. I have read the first two so far. I loved the photos as well, couldn't believe he could find all those and brilliant to make stories based on them! Things got a little hectic here in my muggle world, so I had to put the books away for a bit. Yesterday, I was cleaning my bookshelf that I have right next to where I usually sit in the living room. I found where I had my second book. I have to pick up where I left off. I'm hoping to this weekend.
It's good to hear that you've given them a thumbs up. I look forward to them even more.

Reading a couple of different things but most importantly, reading HP again! I was without power for about 36 hours during a storm and grabbed SS for something easy to see-this has resulting in me deciding to reread the whole series. On OOP now. I wish she could put Fantastic Beasts in a book form...
