Yesterday, we spent the whole day out. The sun was finally shining and we are due for more rain to come again tonight. So... we had to soak in the good weather while we can. We ened up going to the bookstore. I still have yet to see that OZ movie. Well, I thought about what all has been spoken about here.... I recalled that the Wizard of Oz is a book series. So, I thought to look up what the first one was and buy it. The guy behind the counter pointed me towards the book by that name. To my surprise, he said that the others in that series will be hard to find. Oh well, when I'm finished with this one, then I'll look it up online to see if they can order it. But that will come later. Another surprise.... I honestly figured that the book would be written more like Peter Pan. Instead, it's writtne more like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My book is illustrated and the easier read meant that by the time I got home last night, I was already on page 25. Cool. I figure I could finish it by Monday if I have a calm weekend. Which I expect it should be. So far, it's pretty good. I seem to like it better than the film. How wierd is that? ;D

I haven't read it for years, it would be fun to read again. I remember I read the first one and then also the one that had Tip And Jack Pumpkinhead in it, Duddahs would remember the name of it. But it's been so long I've forgotten a lot of it.

But it's been so long I've forgotten a lot of it. OK... those names sound funny. I wonder what the next book is called? If Duddahs does not pop in here to let us know, I'll go look it up online. I just love to google. Oh and just to let you know.. I'm not finished with that book yet. So much has been going on here at home, keeping me distracted. Yet, on a couple of nice afternoons, I have been sitting outside on the front porch reading the Wizard of Oz to my son. He tries to catch a nap at that time. I was reading to him just last week while waiting for his other worker to arrive.

I am reading a book called Inside Straight which is about a group of people with super powers who are on a reality show. Here is a quote I thought you guys might like. "After serving us dinner and recording all our conversations and interviewing each of us separately, we got assigned to teams. It wasn't quite the Sorting Hat, but it had some of that feel."

Just started a book I've heard about T've heard about for a while and wanted to read-The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Am loving it so far. What's it about? Well.... besides magicians? ......... Today, I made time to read a little bit to my son. Yep... I'm still working on The Wizard of Oz. We just met the lion. It's amazing because they did do it right by the film with Judy Garland playing Dorothy. I mean, I was imaging the lion holding his tail, wiping away his tears with it, then that was the next line. I'm hoping to read more this weekend. I'm not going to be as busy as before starting tomorrow afternoon. Sighs... I'm looking forward to some down time and this would be cool.

The Magicians is about a high school student who goes to a secret college for magicians-I've heard it called Harry Potter for adults and it really is, also elements of the Narnia stories. I'm finding it hard to put down. Enjoy the Wizard Miss Charlotte. I've seen the movie so many times that's it's hard to remember how it compares to the book, it must be so interesting comparing the two.

It does sound good. It makes me wonder if JKR reads stuff like this? I mean, if they might write things she might have already thought up for Harry Potter, but she decided to go a different way. OR would she be surprised and say she wished she thought of this or that too?

You know, I think it may be the other way around Miss Charlotte, I think the author of this book may have read HP first and been influenced by it! I've noticed this with other books too, I think we're going to find a lot of books being influenced by JKR from now on.

I've noticed this with other books too, I think we're going to find a lot of books being influenced by JKR from now on. OH yeah... I totally agree. What I meant... those tiny details they would choose differently from JRK's books, just to make them different. We know JKR thought long and hard all sorts of directions she might use in her books... then had to discard some for the one she did choose for Harry. That's what I meant. They don't know what she has in her little notes at home. Who knows, they could have used something she already discarded. I'll bet if this ever does happen, she'll have a grin on her face for what they don't know. Also, pride that she inspired another writer.

OK... I broke down and bought JKR's new book. Not sure how long it will be before I get to it. I think I have many books that have been on my shelf before it for long enough. I also bought a brand new cookbook yesterday. It's called Fix It and Forget It! 700 meals in a crock pot.

I was cleaning today and found a cookbook called Fix It and Enjoy IT Healthy Cookbook. I wonder if they are part of a series? Right now I am reading The Land Endures by Mary Pearce, about English Farm families in the 1800s, I love her books Also reading the Magician King, a sequel to The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Definitely not for kids and not for all tastes but I like it. Also started reading The Cuckoos Calling by Robert Galbraith. )Am loving this book so far, did I see there's a separate thread for this somewhere? This Spring I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I think most Potter fans would love this if you haven't read it. It has fantasy, a very magical circus, romance, mystery and plot twists.

YES... IT IS Part of a series. Cukckoos Calling would be one of Xeno's threads. For the time being, I'm not reading anything. When I read, I seem to immerse myself into the world that the author has created. I'm trying to write so that is the world I'm trying to be in at the moment. However, I went to the movies the other night to see a new movie called, Immortal Instruments, City of Bones. I noticed a couple of hours before we went, while I was doing a bit of last minute shopping, how they had a bookstand filled with this book series. It seemed familiar to me. I thought of this thread and wondered if any of you read it and if you had. If so, what you thought of it? The movie was interesting to say the least... it has a Harry Potter actor in it. The guy who played the young Gellert Grindelwauld. He also played in Twilight as one of the three Volturi. I was going to comment on this movie on the HP actor's thread, but I really don't know what to say. It was a very busy film. I was not sure if this was the middle book turned to a movie, or if they tried to put the whole series into one sitting or what? Maybe it was just the way it was shot. However, the storyline sounded very promising despite the fast pace film. So, I was wondering about the book series.

I'm not really a fan of his.. but I loved The Shining film. Hmm? I wonder if the book is like the movie or how they differ? Anyway, Fangsfan, is Doctor Sleep something brand new? I've never heard of it before. From what you are saying that it's a sequal... it is very tempting that I might want to go ahead and start with the first book, then move to this one.
What do you think of it so far?

I really liked it Miss Charlotte. Yes it is a sequel to The Shining, the little boy in it is all grown up now. I am still rereading the Game of Thrones series (third go round). Also rereading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which is about English magicians. I also got out my little book called Merry Christmas to You, which is filled with Christmas stories from many countries. I've posted about it before, this was the book my Mom got me for ten cents on a yard sale and it's one of my favorite things of all time. I looked at her writing inside and from the date I've had it for forty years now, I still get it out every year. Back when I got it there was no internet, now I have the fun of googling some of these authors and reading about their lives.

I've never read it, but the book Moby Dick, written by Meville... well, there is a movie being filmed right now that tells of the true life events which inspired him to write the book. I know it's cool to read about authors who have been sucessful at this medium. It's also cool to find out what inspired them in the first place. It's just strange to think that Jane Austen was one of JKR's favorite authors... I wonder how she might have used any of her books as inspiration when she wrote the Harry Potter series?
