I had been kind of on the fence about this after reading some of the synopses, glad to hear your opinion Duddahs. You have got me interested in reading this again, probably not til the new year though as I'm in the middle of Christmas shopping now. I always see so many things I'd like for myself when I'm shopping, especially when it comes to books.

The other day I bought two calendars in Book a Million and they gave me a free Page a Day calendar. It's pretty cool, every day it gives a review of a different book so you get all kinds of ideas of books to read. One of them is The Magicians-I think we talked about it before on one of our book threads, it's supposed to be an adult Harry Potter type story. Sounds like one for me to look for when I finish the mound of books I already have to read.

I don't think I remember any mention of the Magician book you are talking about. still, it sounds cool. When you find it please let us know the name. I'd like to hear more about it. Right now, I've pretty much put all of my book reading on hold. The only one I'm working on slowly is Game of Thrones. It's going pretty good so far.

They have already put out the casting call for "The Casual Vacancy!" Just read that headline the other day...on Mugglenet, I think.

And speaking of The Casual Vacancy, my extra, prize copy (from Mugglenet) arrived in the mail yesterday! I don't need 2 copies...so I will be having a contest here, and will send it to the winner.
I am posting this in a few appropriate threads on here, in order to try to reach as many loungers as may want to participate, and giving a few days' notice. On Sunday Dec. 6, in the evening (EST), I will be posting 5 questions on the Head Table thread. The first person to post all 5 correct answers will win the book. I hope this will be a fun contest for all!

I thought it would be fun to see how things go on tv for her work on this novel. I decided to do a small posting spree here before I get back on track hunting down the answers to your quiz.

I have so many books that I have started and still are working on to finish. Still, every time I happen to be in North Little Rock... I HAVE to beg my hubby to let me go take a look around Barnes and Noble. Yep... about a week ago, I caved in and purchased a hardback book called: Edgar Allen Poe Complete Tales and Poems.
I've been eyeballing this or one like it for years and finally I have it here at home. On the way home that day, I already began to read it. I read the Annabelle Lee poem. So sad.

I've been in Stephen King kind of mood lately, my book of choice is The Shining You know... my first thoughts of this is the movie. I keep forgetting that it was a book first. However, I LOVE the movie. Yep, it's so weird and horrible but capitivating. I"m sorry... Jack Nicholson will always be this guy for me, no matter how many other Jacks he plays he's just one creepy dude. Still, I wonder is the book better than the movie? If so, I might just have to check it out. I"m not that big of a Steven King fan, but every now and then he has something that just scares the daylights outta you. They have already put out the casting call for "The Casual Vacancy!" Just read that headline the other day...on Mugglenet, I think. Erin Ahh...let me clarify...casting will be held in the spring for a BBC miniseries of the book. I know this is selfish of me, but in a way I hope this is so. This will give me time enough to read the book first before we get to watch it on tv. Erin I wonder if we americans will have to wait a year after they have finished showing the first season over there, like we often have to wait for Merlin? I guess, only time will tell.

OK.... here we go. I've been stocking up on books for me to read this year. My life is FINALLY getting to where I will have some ME time. YAY! Also, income tax money has come in, so I'm getting ready. I know I've posted several times already how I am a Agatha Christie fan..... also how I find riding in the car a perfect time to do that reading. My hubby has had me on the go A LOT over the past week or two. Anyway, I would like to finish reading the books I have already started before I open up a new one. The other day I finished reading a book I bought last October called The Hallowe'en Party.... a Poirot mystery. It was pretty good. Finally, one I was able to figure out. She's a great writer and not one I find easy to figure out who dunnit before she reveals it all to us. However, I didn't quite have all of the detials as to why the murderer did the job. I had it about half guessed. So cool. I love this. I've been to Barnes and Noble and Books A Million about three times over the past couple weeks. I bought these books. Third Girl It's about a nanny The Big Four.... which I am currently reading. Really, the mystery of this one is who is the Big Four? Miss Marple: The Complete Short StoriesI already mentioned the Edgar Allen Poe book, which is rather thick. I think I'll wait until I finish some of these shorter books before I tackle that one. I also bought a rather interesting book I've only thumbed through before I bought it two days ago. The Necromancer Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas FlamelIt was on the clearance rack for 3 dollars. I thought, why not? After all, I've been eyeballing it for ages. Then when I began reading the first page I was totally shocked. It's written in a style I ALWAYS invisioned ME using whenever I get around to writing my own fanfic of Albus Dumbledore's life. WOW! And here in JKR"s world, they were good friends young Albus and old Nick. ;D I"m still working on Game of Thrones. It's never far from my mind. It's not an easy read for me, so I have to pick it up when my mind is not so cluttered with life's going on's, in order for me to totally soak in it's meaning. OH and I don't want to forget. JKR's Casual Vacancy. I have it on top of my computer cabinet where I can see it. I want to finish The Big Four first, then I'll crack open this one. thanks again Erin.

Ahhh...you are lucky that yhou can read in the car...I cannot...my head and tummy don't appreciate it much.
I am liking the Casual Vacancy. A little hard to keep who is who straight, so I wrote myself a cheat sheet, and that is making it easier. She also switches point of view...sometimes mid-chapter, so that can be a little confusing. However, it is a page turner...and I have definite characters who I like and dislike...not in terms of how they're written...they are well written, but in terms of the type of people they are... Enjoy it when you get to it, Miss C.!

;D That is so funny to hear you say that. I've had to do that with Game of Thrones... that is write down who is s who. I mean, I know the main characters but not all of the extra characters right off the bat.
Oh and I won't be long until I start CV. It's a matter of if I can have the patience to wait for me to finish my other two books. I mean, it's not unlike me to have five books I'm working on all at once. ;D

Yep... just like I thought.... I woke this morning with CV on my mind and so as of right now, I'm on page 21. LOL. It is rather wierd reading something so different from her Harry Potter style of storytelling.

Well, I've finished "The Casual Vacancy". I have lots to say, but even if I don't give details, I'm afraid I'd be giving little hints about what kind of things happen. The only thing I will say now is that, just as in Harry Potter, Jo really develops her characters well...you feel like you really know who they are.
