This is a variation of the traditional "What are YOU reading now?" thread. Just this one is a bit more open.. It's a place to discuss: ~ favorite books we've read in the past.. ~ ones we would like to read in the future. ~ What are you reading NOW? i48.TP .com/34jcdhj.gif[/img]

Boy it was long but so very insightful.

Clinton was Governor here for ages. Hubby said that when he went on a field trip ( in 10th or 11th grade) They took a tour of the state capitol and each got a chance to meet him.
Right now, my books are waiting on me... I've been busy this summer.
I did read two Agatha Christie books and a repeat of Deathly Hallows.
For some reason I tend to read more during the cold months.

I am reading the Sorceress, third in the Nicholas FLamel series. The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer. This is a World War II story about a Jewish family-I have Jewish relatives. It's sad but very good. Also Emily of New Moon by L M Montgomery-these were my mother's absolute favorite books and I decided to try it.

Sword of Truth series? What are they about? oops, sorry for the late reply lol. sword of truth is a fantasy series, with magic, amazing adventures, battles, a dragon and other creatures. i very good read, i highly recommend them! if you have ever seen the legend of the seeker on tv, it's loosely based on the books.

I went to the bookstore today.. and saw several books over in the Harry Potter section that I have never heard of before... then some I had, then only to wonder if it was because I had seen them mentioned on one of these threads. I can't recall if I had seen the one you are talking about... but then again... I was all over that store today.

Hello,
I had started this topic over on the movies thread, as so many books have been made into movies...but thought it would be a good topic here as well...so here is a quote from that post, with some editing so you know what I'm talking about, and additional discussion:
I just read a review of the first 2 books co-written by Stephen King and Peter Straub, The Talisman and The Black House., and it said something about people who have read the Dark Tower series (and there's another series I waited anxiously for the sequels!) will know what's going on with the black house in those stories....I did read that series, but not until AFTER I read The Talisman I wonder if when reading The Talisman now, I'll make the connection to the Dark Tower series?
Has anyone else read the Dark Tower Series?
What was your favorite of those books?
My favorite of those is "The Drawing of the Three". I loved the development and description of each character...and loved the characters!
What did you think of the ending of the series? Was it a surprise? It was to me. I wasn't sure what to expect when he finally reached his goal...but that wasn't it.
How did you feel about that ending?
I loved the ending, I hated it...I could keep going in circles with that one.. ;D

Hi Erin, I read the Dark Tower about a year and a half ago, and I had read both the King/Straub books first. For some reason I didn't know if I would like the DT series but I loved them. I remember when I was reading that series I did keep picking up on some of the things mentioned in the Talisman books-I bet you would too if you read them again. I know on the Stephen King website there is a place where they tell you how so many of his books tie into the DT series and list which books and what the tie ins are. Now for the ending-the way you said it describes exactly how I felt too. I never guessed it would be anything like that-and as you said I think I both loved and hated it at the same time! It was certainly unexpected. My favorite book, I'd have to go back and check the titles but it was the one where Jake first goes into the book store and then ends up finding the rose in the parking lot. And I think that's the one that ends with them all being on the train -Blaine the train. I want to read the whole series again some time now that I know the ending, but of course it's gong to be quite an undertaking, that's a lot of reading!

This time of year there are two books I like to get out and reread. One is Maeve Binchy's collection of Christmas short stories This Year It Will Be Different. The other is a book my mother got for me when I was a little girl-she paid ten cents for it at a library book sale. It's called Merry Christmas to You and was edited by Wilhemina Harper. It's a collection of all kinds of Christmas stories, mostly geared towards kids. There are stories translated from France, Germany, Italy=many different countries. Some are very well known but others I've never seen anywhere else before. I've gotten hundreds of hours of reading from that 10 cent book. I've often thought it would be fun to compile a book of Christmas stories that haven't yet been included in any of the collections you find in book stores. I'd definitely include the one from SS/PS where Harry gets his invisibility cloak!

That sounds so cool. Sort of reminds me of the Brothers Grimm and how they went around in Europe where they could travel then collected stories or folk tales from those communities. Hey Fangsfan... if you win the lottery, I'll go with you to travel around and research all of the different Christmas stories for your book idea. That would be something very uplifting and I could see would soon become a must for any family's bookshelf for Christmas reading. BUT as for me.. I just bought a new book last night. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. It's not very thick, but really I see this as being just one of the many unread books that I someday want to read. They are all on my bookshelf too.

I am currently reading the book Naked Heat written by Richard Castle. The book is really written by another mystery ghost writer which is famous and the books are released at the beginning of the seasons to help promote the show. I really like the way the producers interweave the books with the pot of the show and the relationships of the characters. I highly recommend to the adults of this site to buy and read the books if you can. I don’t so much for the children here though.

I've never heard of those books before... How did they turn out?
As for me, since I've watched DH part one a few times now, it inspired me to dig out my copy of Beedle The Bard and read the Tales of the Three Brothers. It's been so long since I read it I'm so glad I did again.

"If you don't believe things you'll never have any fun. The more things you can believe the more interesting life is, as you say yourself." "Old Grandmother" from the book Magic For Marigold by LM Montgomery, written in 1926! The quote made me think of HP fans.
