Ok... here is something I'm not certain where to post it at. Here, or at the DejaVu thread.
This morning, I woke up and went in to tend to my son.. Yep.. our normal morning routine. As usual, I asked him if he wanted to watch Steve Erwin this morning. Once again, he smiles to let me know his answer is yes. OK so there it was. He's located in Florida on a military base down there. Of course he showed the native types of snakes and lizards... a TOAD or two. THen there it be... a BURROWING OWL. Wow... another thought... an owl in a burrow. LOL. He said something about the Burrowing Owl that I did not know... the fact that they are nocturnal and need stealth to sneek up on it's prey, whenever they fly there is no sound. Cool!
ok.. .my owl comment for the day. LOL

I read some of the Owls of Gahoole series and I remember they spoke of burrowing owls and I had never heard of them either. Today I left my dog at the groomers and walked on the Pondicherry Trail. This is a nature walk which doesn't allow dogs so it was a good time to go. Just beautiful and on one tree there was a picture of a father and son-it talked about "going owling" and I think it was from a book called Owl Moon.

Oh...Owl Moon is a wonderful book! We use it to teach our students about figurative language, but it's a good read.

I've never heard of Owl Moon. What is it about? I'm very interested.

It's a children's book about a girl and her father who go "owling" They go in the winter, on a night with a full moon, in hopes of spotting an owl. There is wonderful imagery in the words, and the pictures in the book are beautiful. It's by Jane Yolen.

Thanks... I would have loved reading it as a child... Still, as an adult I continue to love children's books. I'll have to go look it up the next time I go to the library.

We had a most bizarre Owl sighting this morning.
We were in the Memorial Day Parade, I was in the Morris Minor Traveller 1000 and waiting for the parade to begin.
J.J. started to laugh so loud that I thought that something really funny had just happened in the car that I did not notice.
Nope, it was a Troop of Brownies all dressed up as OWLS!
I would have hated to be in one of those costumes... They kept singing this song Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute, from the old commercial on T.V.
It was humid and hot today. I really hope that no one was adversely affected by the temps and weather.. Sunny too! No real shade for most of the parade route..
My dad's Corvair was right in front of us and boy I could smell his clutch burning up. He has a bad habit of riding the clutch and in a parade where most of it is on an incline or some fairly strong rises? Well, you get the picture..
He had his cars all with these great Marine Corp banners that hold to the side of the car without damaging the finish.. He put Marine and U.S. Flags on the front of the Morris and on the rear of his Corvair.
It was fun but I was glad when it was over..

LOL Duddahs. The owls sound cute!
We marched in our parade, too. James with the band (he plays clarinet) and Aidan with the t-ball teams (and I walked with him). It was fun!

Oh my, I would love to see that owl parade!
I went to Book a Million Friday, they took over from Borders which went out of business. They had a whole table of owl stuff-owl banks, magnets, figurines, and back packs.

Yes, I too would have loved to see that owl parade. Actually, we don't have Memorial Day Parades down here in the south. People normally celebrate by going camping or spending time with relatives out by the lake. Huge family reunions are very common. Remembering those loved ones who have gone and celebrating the memory. Cookouts in the back yard. Also a trip out to visit graves will be among some of the activities of the three day weekend. For some reason, I've never heard of parades like that down here. And that table.... That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about... so many owl things all together to buy, that I would love to make an owl picture collection, just to see what people come up with.

It rained all day today so my sister and I went shopping. We went into a flea market with everything you could think of-books, DVDs, Christmas decorations, figurines, etc, etc. My sister found and bought a really cute blue and white owl milk pitcher. She is getting to like the owl stuff too!

I was at the bookstore today. I'm not sure why they had these there, but there was a display holding four different colors of owls. I read to see what they were about. They were flavoured lip gloss. Who would have thought?

I believe the owls in the pic. are Northern Saw Whet Owls. They are at our State Wildlife Park, which is why they are behind a fence. All the animals at the wildlife park have been injured, orphaned or for some other reason are unable to live on their own in the wild.
Also, fangsfan will be offline for the week due to computer issues but should be back this weekend.
