Today at Christmas Tree shop they are getting out all their gardening stuff for Spring, including the traditional garden gnome decorations. One gnome was flanked on each side by two little owls-very cute.

Duddahs collects Mechanical Toy Animals both for his personal collection and for resale in the family Antiques Business. Take a look at the one that Duddahs is working on buying right now! Duddahs is really into all sorts of mechanical things. Mechanical Birds, Clocks, Watches, Toys, if it is Mechanical, bet it will peak Duddahs interest. Hope he gets it.....

Duddahs, I have my grandfathers old musical cigarette dispenser. I don't smoke, but as a child I used to love to press the button for my Papa. It would play Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, and a little dog would slowly come up, holding a cigarette in his paws. My parents have a beautiful cuckoo clock that my moms cousin made...so intriguing to watch!

Those special family treasures are the very best kind Erin.
Bet that they bring back tons of happy memories when you get to watch them in action.
I have my Great Grandparents Cuckoo Clock from the 1880's. It is not in working condition but will be someday. I have been buying the parts piece by piece that need to be replaced. These earlier ones are the hardest to get the parts for because they have wood gears and works instead of the normal metal mechanical workings.
Someday but until then, enjoy the memories!

When I think of mechanical animals.. especially owls, the first one that comes to mind (and of which I would LOVE to have) is the owl Bubo from the old Clash of the Titans movie. He hoots and clicks the way I imagine Duddahs doing from time to time.

Wow... I didn't realize I had not come in to post this here.
For Christmas, my daughter bought me a set of wooden nesting owls. I love how each set fits inside of the larger version all ending in a baby owl in the center.

Nesting owls, that is so cool, I never saw that before. I just did my St Patrick's day mantleshelf and I put on my Celtic owl. He has little shamrocks all around the base so he fits perfectly.

Duddahs did wish to update that he did in fact purchase the mechanical owl.
It is so cool... It waddles side to side and moves forward, flaps his wings and does a little hoot, a bit more like a chirp but heck, he was made in 1951.

I spotted a couple of owls spotlighted on the last episode of Survivor. Here I thought, DUDDAHS! How'd you get on there?~ ==== Duddahs did wish to update that he did in fact purchase the mechanical owl. It is so cool... How tall is it? I'm imagining ten inches or much smaller.

The mechanical Owl is 8" tall. He waddles from side to side, his wings go up and down, his head turns from side to side and he makes this odd little chirp, instead of a hoot. But he sure is a Hoot!
Yesterday a Penguin came in from Lima Peru.. He is way kool too!

Not just one episode too.

I just found out about a website called explore.com. They have all kinds of live cams-puppies, African water holes, puffins, and several kinds of owls. Some of them are live and some that are off season are showing highlights. I saw one of a great horned owl on the nest. It's really cool, thought I'd share it in case anyone else hadn't heard of this.

I went with several family members to the Cumberland Craft Fair, one of the biggest craft fairs in New England, today. Lots of good ideas for Christmas presents. Lots of owl stuff, paintings, stuffies, etc. The best were these little tiny sculptures made of wood and stone and covered with yarn. It's hard to describe it but they looked so realistic, they had snowy, horned and barn owls. Also we went to the Maine Wildlife Park again last week and saw several owls. They are owls who have had vision or wing injuries and can't survive in the wild so they give them a home there. There was one owl who had a dead mouse in his claws and kept flying from one perch to another with it!

For Christmas I got a book called Wesley the Owl by Stacey Obrien. It's about a biologist who adopts a baby owl with nerve damage to the wing who is unable to survive in the wild. A true story, Highly recommended if you are interested in owls.
