My Harry Potter thought for today... SOmething that I never ever even thought about before.. As we know.. the Hogwarts Castle was built by the four founders... They intended from the very beginning for it to be a school to teach witch craft and wizardry.. RIGHT? ? Well, even with Salizar Slytherin in the mix of all of that.. Still.. with him or the purpose of the school in mind.. WHY was a dungeon created to be in a school to teach magic? I never saw a dungeon to be just another name for a basement or bottom floor of the castle... SO WHY is it a part of the school? What was it's purpose intended for?

My Harry Potter thought for today.
I have wondered how Professor Dumbledore actually was able to get Tom Riddle from the Orphanage since he was not a relative and it does not appear that anyone adopted him.

No, we know that Dumbledore goes there and tells that he is a Professor at a private school, not a relative.
HMMmmmm?

My thought came when I was on one of my favorite thread, the quotes thread. I put it the quote from "Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, we owe them so much." From George W, about the Maurauders Map, in book three. I remembered Erin's thread about foreshadowing on the WB-I got to thinking that this has another meaning besides just the map-Harry did owe them all so much, even Wormtail helped him a little bit in book 7.

My Harry Potter thought for today. I have wondered how Professor Dumbledore actually was able to get Tom Riddle from the Orphanage since he was not a relative and it does not appear that anyone adopted him. I wanted so much to comment about this earlier when I first saw your comment.. but things have been a bit hectic for me lately.. So.. Remember back when we were kids, how there were no rules that kids MUST be buckled up, or even small ones must be in a car seat? A lot of things have changed from way back then.. So in my own mind, I saw this as being a time when the world was not all so caught up with the technicalities of rules and regulations. Then we take a look at who we are talking about. They really looked like they were glad to see the back of Tom Riddle. He had no one who ever called upon him for his entire life. They must have assumed it was in their best interest to make a wise choice not only for them... but sending Tom to a school that actually wanted him there, must have seemed like they too could be seen (if in the future a real true relative ever came looking for him.) That they were looking out for his best interest... It would appear better than just turning him loose on the streets. I was watching a show yesterday that actually commented on the way things were back in that era.. This show featured a story about people being admitted into insane asylums. They not only had adults in there but little children, no age requirements. They said that sometimes these people were not only people with mental health problems but some were Hyper... some had ADD... some literally were dumped there by their families because this person was not doing what they were told. One lady was admitted because of her hubby found out she was pregnant and it was not his child. He called her intolerable so he placed her there. A little girl perfectly normal grew up there. Then others were dumped there because they had too many children and could not feed them all. They never came back for them. So I guess since there was no legal rules that regulated real institutions such as this one... that JKR must have thought about how the world was not the same today as it was back during this time. Wasn't there a world war going on? Hitler's time did not let the world have good times either. Now this is just me guessing... the only way I could make sense of things in my mind, because I too wondered how they could legally get away with this? Then just schools.. how they have changed. I took my son to school since he started at age 2... all the way up until his 21st birthday (aside from a couple of years.) I remember a day when I could just walk into his classroom and just get him every afternoon. Now a days, they have all of the doors locked and the only way in, is through the front entrance. Too many parents who did not have custody of their own children were walking in and removing the child without the other parents permission. Not even checking the kid out properly at the front desk. They had to crack down... It's sad how the world is turning out... Stiff rules.. but they are for the best. OH... and just now, while backreading what I have now written... Maybe Dumbledore did something with his wand.. not only did he get her a bit tipsy, she was very easy going and very agreeable to his wishes after that... Maybe this could have also come into play to allow her to let Tom go.

Oh yes... there were so many foretelling moments. After I rearead the books more than once... I noticed JKR is so very smart... so cunning in how she did this to us on purpose... Gave us so much to notice on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 13th time reading the books.. things we didn't notice. I wonder if anyone wants to start that thread here? But yes.. I never did notice that about Wormtail.. but he did help out a couple of different times.... ooo.... I have a what if to post.

It would be fun if they had their own Teacher's Express that took them back and forth. Can't you just imagine Trelawney and McGonagall playing cards together during the ride? And Flitwick and Snape having pumpkin pasties and tea together?

My Harry Potter thought for today.... Who do you think rakes all the leaves that fall on the grounds of Hogwarts.... The House Elves? No because the Golden Trio had never seen House Elves until their second year and I am sure that had they been raking the grounds while the kids where out practicing broom riding, quidditch or the greenhouse classes that they would have been aware of house elves by then..... No but who?

No but who? Well... really I too believe it was the House elves who did that sort of thing.. But if you remember correctly the books say that no one saw the House elves do their duties because they did them at night when no one was awake. Why not the outside chores too? Still... something else comes to mind.. I don't see them raking them up into a pile.. like we did for so many years while living out in the coutnry.. We used to mow them down to become mulch for the next year.. Really. I placed them around my roses and bushes to keep them warm during the cold months. Would they not leave the leaves be and or maybe make them disentegrated? So many thoughts on this one.

Why is it that when Harry performed Lumos to read under his sheets that it was not considered the use of Magic by and Underage Wizard?

Was that in the book as well? I do remember it being in the movie. My Harry Potter thought for today.. I wonder about the trips the Orphans took to the beach.. or seaside where the Horcrux cave was located... I can't remember offhand, but didn't they say they went one of two different places during the summer holidays?

How does the normal Witch or Wizard travel by broom? At night or high above the clouds during the daytime?
