You know times when you have a random thought about the books? It's not one you would think would get a whole huge discussion about, yet it did enter your mind for a moment.
This thread can be serious or it may be fun. It may spark a conversation, or it may not... No matter what, it's still interesting to see what will end up here.
I'll start.
MY Harry Potter thought for today.....
If there are a hundred House elves working at Hogwarts, where do they all sleep?

My Harry Potter thought for today;
Since Harry had a toy broom to fly on before Voldemort killed his parents, why is it that other Wizarding children had not already been taught to fly the way Harry had.
When they arrived at Hogwarts it seemed only Draco Malfoy knew how to fly out of all the kids in their class.

Maybe that was why it seemed so natural for Harry to be on a broom... it was as if he already knew how to work it, without having to learn it... Still, I'm sure the other students had to have known about the kiddie brooms.
Hey and to add to that note.. We know that when the Weasley kids were away at school.. we are told that Ginny would practice using their brooms before she was old enough to go to Hogwarts herself. I never realized all of this before.

Yep, there is definitely a few things that seem to get overlooked.

I try not to overlook anything.. but even after all of these years and countless times I've read the books I love the fact that I keep finding out new stuff.

My Harry Potter thought for the day...
I wonder if Magical Creatures go behind the Vail just like Witches and Wizards do...

Duddah.. I whole-heartedly believe they do. I see that they each have a soul... a spirit that is unique to each of them personally. They are put on this earth to bring us joy and companionship. Some even save our lives in more ways than we can imagine. MY harry POtter thought for today.. Why is it called Ravenclaw when their mascot is not a Raven but an eagle?

Well, one must assume that it is named Ravenclaw after Rowena Ravenclaw... Now for the Eagle, not sure at all why the Eagle, but also the Badger is the official animal and not the Eagle or the Raven!
Now what is up with that?

My Harry Potter thought for the day:
Do Professors stay at Hogwarts year-round?

My Harry Potter thought for the day: Do Professors stay at Hogwarts year-round? We know that Professor McGonnagall goes to her family home during the summer and we also know that Severus Snape went back to Spinners End during his summers off, so I would assume most teachers went home.. Hagrid though stayed on all summer long to tend Hogwarts School and Grounds as does Sybill Trelawney and Argus Filch I believe. Professor Binns does not even know that the school year is over since he is a Ghost and just stays put at Hogwarts. Good Question!

I knew from an interview that JKR said Filch stayed because he was caretaker.. but the rest didn't. Yet I could definately agree that Hagrid would need to stay or Filch might crack taking care of a castle and everything around it all by his squib self. I just guessed maybe they would go on a vacation of sorts... Maybe trelawney goes to see her relatives? Just a guess. Binns ;D Yeah. My Harry Potter thought for today... If the triwizard tournament made people all famous and all... Then why was it that to me it seemed that the Twins were the only ones who knew about it? It seemed that the rest of the school needed to be let in on what it was. OR lets take it a step further... then WHO were the famous ones before that?

Miss Charlotte. I think that is because the Twins knew beforehand because Mr. Weasley told them, because he would hear first because of his job at the Ministry.

Actually I doubt that Molly would have told them about Quidditch..
I think that since the twins were more into their Quidditch Play that they would have done as much research and as much reading about anything that may have had to do with Tournaments such as the Quidditch World Cup..
Then they would most likely have been exposed to information about other tournaments such as the Quidditch World Cup..
Also remember how Bill and Charlie were also big Quidditch Players. If any of the Weasley's might have let something slip, I bet it would have been Charlie since he was handling the Dragons for the Tournament

Right, Charlie seems more likely

Here's mine for the day:
I've always wondered where wizarding families would buy their food. I know Molly grows some, but I can't picture all of the wizarding families doing that.

My Harry Potter thought of the day. In J.K. Rowling's books many of the witches and wizards were Christian. We also saw that there were witches and wizards from the Middle East. Were those witches and wizards Muslim, and if so would it be a specialized form of Islam allowing Witches? I am assuming the Christians in J.K. Rowling's story were a seperate denomination which did not frown on witchcraft.

nz101nz: I think the witches and wizards who were more urbanized would buy their food from markets similar to those of Diagon Alley, and since distance wasn't so much a problem for them they didn't need too many other places than Diagon Alley. As far as the magical food ingrediants a family might need there might be wizard farmers who are good botanists and have the help of elves.

Who knows... maybe it was the muggle family's religion of choice before they found out their particular family member had magical powers. I mean .. I think other people who are non christians actually go on tradition of having godparents just to have someone to take care of the children in case something were to happen to them. It was not strictly a religious belief. (even the old fashioned Cinderella story.. the godmother was a witch/fairy if you think about it.) But really.. why would anyone believe that there was religious beleifs within JKR's world? I think I had seen a documentary on the origins of christmas celebrations.. it was originally a pagan holiday taken over by christians.. Now easter... I have no idea JKR explains that. But that would be the closest reason to beleive there are christians within JKR's Harry Potter world.
