Can you imagine the Malfoy's or the Black's pushing a cart at Piggly Wiggly? ;D (pun intended. ) Maybe the house elves grew some out back in the far parts of their grounds. ?

nz101nz: I think the witches and wizards who were more urbanized would buy their food from markets similar to those of Diagon Alley, and since distance wasn't so much a problem for them they didn't need too many other places than Diagon Alley. As far as the magical food ingrediants a family might need there might be wizard farmers who are good botanists and have the help of elves. Yeah, that would make sense Rallem. P.S., you can just call me Nz.

My Harry Potter thought for today...
If Ariana lived... would she have lived with Aberforth and helped him around the bar?

My Harry Potter thought for today;
I have always wondered what Aberforth actually did with the goats to get in trouble with the Ministry for.

I always wanted to know about those goats too, it leaves a lot to the imagination! I think Ariana would have lived with Aberforth and he would have taken good care of her. Not sure about the bar there, I wonder if he might have decided it wasn't the best place for her, he seemed very protective. But I'll bet he would have found something that she was good at for her to do.

I was not doing so well last night and was up all night so I did a great deal of online surfing for Jo Rowling info..
I came across something that broke my heart, I mean broke it right in half.
JKR upon the stand at her trial against RDR and the Lexicon made a clear statement that the Werewolf affliction that Remus Lupin possessed was actually a metaphor for today's HIV....
Honestly, having a brother who contracted HIV some 25 years ago when he had open heart surgery and multiple blood transfusions, I am so heart broken to think of the way that Jo felt and pretty much rightly so about the horrors of HIV.. It is a shame that it seems to have fallen silent and people seem to have swept it under the carpet once again. The stigma that some ignorant people created in the early years when the lack of knowledge of the disease was rampant is unfortunately still with us today..
Here is my Harry Potter thought for today;
Did anyone else know of or ever read about the correlation between the Werewolf and HIV afflictions?

Duddahs, I'm so glad you put that thought here. I never knew but always wondered if the way Umbridge and some others treated Lupin could be meant to be similar to how some people treat HIV patients. I'm so glad to hear that this is how JKR meant this, thanks for sharing this info.

I had no idea about her thinking....but it seems that she has a reason for everything...she is so intelligent, and empathetic....I liek her so much!

Fangsfan1 and Erin,
Thanks so much to both of you for your comments. I do see the line now that I read the transcripts of the trial itself.
She effortlessly draws the line from one thing to the next and it is so seamless that we do not even realize that we have been drawn into the world of JKR and not just Harry Potter.
After-all the world of Harry Potter is our world indeed.

That was one of the things I loved about the books, she teaches things like rejecting prejudice and making the right choices without being preachy about it. Especially good for young kids reading these books, I thought.

My Harry Potter thought for today; JKR states in interviews after the release of DH that Harry and Dudley continued to have contact but only on limited basis such as Holidays. What I wonder is this, while Vernon, Petunia and Dudley were put into protective custody, where they kept in a place where Magic was frequently used, thus exposing them to the positive side of the use and understanding of Magic or do you think they were hidden in a place where maybe a Squib would watch out over them?

good question! i think they would be at a place where a squib would watch over them. if you recall in the books, the wizarding world was separate from the muggle world in many ways, to protect muggles and wizards alike. also, wizards did want to avoid persecution.

It is also possible that a memory charm was placed on the Dursleys so they would not remember what happened once they were released back in the the Wilds of Privet Drive ;D

Here is my Harry Potter thought for today; Did anyone else know of or ever read about the correlation between the Werewolf and HIV afflictions? Actually I did hear about it years ago. I didn't realize how others might not have known that until you posted this. But then again, this shows how I read too much of JKR's interviews back in the day.

Especially good for young kids reading these books, I thought. That is the bottom line... It's sad that some people think becoming a dictator or beating someone over the head with an idea or consept is the better way to teach or reach a person. She did in fact have the best technique of all... She did her teaching with compassion. And it worked SO WELL.

OK... Here is my Harry Potter thought for today...
Even though in the movies we only get to see Buckbeak.. but in the book Hagrid had several different Hippogriffs.. each a different color.. but suddenly the only one we hear of was Buckbeak... What happened to the rest after that first day at class?

What happened to the rest after that first day at class? Hmmm, I'm really not sure. However, in the POA video game, after Buckbeak left with Sirius, Hagrid had another Hippogrif that was a different color. Maybe he is hiding them, since he isn't suppose to have them. My Hp thought of the day: In CoS, When Harry is inside the Chamber of Secrets, he doesn't look at the Basilisk because he would die if he looked directly into it's eyes. But, he wouldn't die; Wouldn't he just get Petrified, because Harry wears glasses, therefore he isn't looking directly at it?

My Harry Potter thought for today;
If Mr. Weasley could re-construct the Ford Anglia to have an invisibility cloak, why did he not do the same for the Motor bike which would have greatly helped Harry out during the Seven Harry's Battle.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure that Arthur had help from the Ministry, or permission. I don't think he could ask the Ministry in DH, since it was run by LV.
Just my thoughts, though I'm not sure if they're correct.
