Don't Look Now with Donald Sutherland-very disturbing-I watched the whole thing once but once was enough. The SIxth Sense 'The Others with Nicole Kidman. An American Werewolf in London. Two silent movies (yes, even silent movies scare me!) The Cabinet of Dr and Caligari and Nosferatu. Nosferatu is on right now on Turner Classic movies-one of the first takes on the Dracula story.

Ghost Ship is on right now. I have to leave for work soon but what I've seen so far looks pretty good. Also Gabriel Byrne is in it, an actor I've always liked.

There are two movies that are so similar... both on a ship and involving ghosts. I've seen them both but can't remember which one was which. One was gory in a shocking extreme when it came to a scene on the front deck... where a dance party of sorts was being relived... so watch out if that was the one you were watching. As for me... They seem to have any of the Halloween movies on at the time I have the remote control and trying to eat dinner. I guess they are doing some sort of marathon having one each night. It was so nostalgic to see all of the things in the movie that you don't find anymore. Actual plastic masks that have a matching cloth jumpsuit like costume. They showed a boom box at one point... then the hair styles. LOL Boy do I feel old or what? LOL. But best of all... I have a remote I can use to turn the chanel as soon as the head was found in the dryer peeking out at the guy who found it just before he tripped over the body. CLICK! It was not scary only an expected gross scene. I found something better on.

That was the one Miss C, that scene was right at the beginning! I do that all the time with scary movies-as soon as it gets to scary, click! One I have always wanted to see is Ghost Story, based on the very scary but excellent book by Peter Straub. For some reason that one is very rarely on tv. There's lots of good Stephen King ones too-Carrie,, It, Christine, and Dreamcatcher.

I'm not sure if you watch Star Trek or not. The lady who plays the ghost lady in this movie also stared as the first Borg Queen in the Star Trek The Next Generation movie. I met her at a convention several years ago... I asked if she would allow me to have my picture taken with her... and so I do have a picture of the two of us. I"m a little crunched for time... Remind me later... There is a bit more to this story to tell. ;D...... Ok... I didn't word it like that on purpose... but it was good to laugh at myself on that one. You guys have a WONDERFUL night.

I remember when I first saw Nightmare on Elm Street when it was over I didn't want to sleep but now I love the series, I have the original box set and recently bought the remake (it's ok but noting can beat Robert Englund ;-)) I've seen Poltergeist too for a old movie it's quite good, I taped Poltergeist 2 a few weeks ago on my sky+ it's pretty good But if you really wanna be scared watch J Horror it's not so in your face horror but it leaves you guessing and that's what scares me

I know what you mean Bea, sometimes that's the kind of thing that scares me more than the really gory stuff. I remember the first Poltergeist well, that was one that I actually saw at the movie theater when it first came out-most of the time I end up watching them on tv.

THEY'RE HEEEERRREEEE!!!!! lol
Fangsfan....just a little off the subject...have you read the book co-written by both Peter Staub and Stphen King? Called "The Talisman"? I read it a LONG time ago, and liked it. Apparently, they also co-wrote a sequel "Black House" and I remember there being one in the original story. Hmmm...may have to re-read the first, and then read the 2nd...

Erin, I've read both of them and love them both!!! The Talisman I think I've read three times now and it's one of my favorites by Stephen King. I've read on the Stephen King website that the two of them are planning to do a third book sometime but I don't know when.

Cool! I just read a review of the first 2, and it said something about people who have read the Dark Tower series will know what's going on with the black house....I did read that series, but not until AFTER I read the Talisman (and there's another series I waited anxiously for the sequels!). I wonder if when reading The Talisman now, I'll make the connection to the Dark Tower series?
Hmmm...this should probably be in the book nook section....ok..I'll start this topic over on that thread as well....

I was just browsing this topic for a moment and then... well. I can't help but add this picture to that (old) quote of yours Miss C. Then I know I have mentioned it before how I found Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was supposed to be a horror film. Gene Wilder's hair sometimes maybe but the movie? I just love it. i56.TP .com/2zgvhoh.gif[/img] Sorry, I couldn't resist. I don't know who made it, but it's done remarkably well for just a .gif image.

... Ok... sorry to change the subject a bit... and yes, there is a tiny Harry Potter comment to be read here. My daughter has gotten to want to watch ghost stories. Something spooky, chilling... but not too gross. She seems interested in mysterious and strange things as well. Finally, out of all of her life of trying to get her to explore a diverse range of things ... not just movies but ALL things in life, she's willing to step out of the shaddows and explore the world she's been missing. I mean, how do you know what you like or don't like if you never give things a chance? Well, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago how I bought a movie called 'The Orphanage'.. it was sad and it was a ghost story.. AND it was all in Spanish. Still, she loved it. The other night we watched something that had a advertisement for a film called 'Dark Water'. I've seen it and thought she might like that. It to me was alright. I was going to rent it this week, but she found it and watched it the other day without me. She told me she wanted to see more of stuff that is odd and ghostly but not gross. She said she cried at the end. Yep... my girl is just like me. When I watched the old black and white versions of Frankenstein, and the Hunchback of Notre Damme, I was a little girl.. and I cried at those. SO... I kept thinking like a mom... I've seen them all just about so i had some things in mind. So... for the past few weeks I've been Running all over trying to find a movie called 'Blair Witch Project'... I knew that would have her in suspense. She loved being kept at the edge of her seat. I've ran all over town and even thismorning still can't find it. I know you can go to some old video game stores... look at movie rental places.... Pawn shops.. Not just regular stores. I've looked everywhere and all I can find is part two of it. I'll tell you that one is lame. I guess I'm left with no luck but to figure out this thing called paypal and purchase it online somewhere. UGH. This morning, I did finally get in to a pawn shop that has lots of prewatched DVD's people no longer want. This one sells them for a $1.50 each. Good deal since not too many people wear out their movies the way I do. I'd say I use my movie players more than I watch regualar television. So.... more to add to THIS list of horror films: Darkness Falls ................ (I"m not telling my daughter it's about the Tooth Fairy.) The Ring............................ Part one. It might make you think twice about watching just any video tape. The Sixth Sense............ yeah, I think it's already mentioned here, but still, I just bought it and I know there are some gross scenes in it but it will make you cry at the end. Great horror film. Mary Reilly......................... It's a very different film for Julia Roberts but one I'd recomend. Excellent film. More a drama anything. It's a take on Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. Cereberus.......................... I've never seen it but it has a three headed dog on it and so I thought of Fluffy and I'm going to be sticking it in here in a few minutes. I also bought Atonement... not even opened from the original package. Wow... someone missed a great film. Now I have it all for a buck fify. and for my Harry Potter connection. I found the original first movie. Obviously my dvd is all worn out, but still plays. I found a couple of this one there and they were as well. Yay for all of the HP fans in my town. BUT I found one in near perfect condition. Not a scratch on it. COOL... So I bought it to back up my old one. It's the two disc set with the second one that has the special features.

A movie not too far off this mark might be one that I fell in love with a decade ago.
It is called A.I. Artificial Intelligence staring Haley Joel Osment and produced by Stephen Spielberg.
Warning if you have not seen it, it will be heart wrenching.

If you are talking about Cerebus.... don't waste your time. It's kind of cheesy. It's not that good. Looks like something made by the scyfy channel. I know when I went to take it out and stick in Scorerer's Stone, I thought to myself, the coolest thing about that film is that the three headed dog had a cool serpent's tail.
edited....
I normally check out the recent 25 posts' thread. I saw Fangsfan's post and didn't see Duddah's until now. I saw A.I. I guess you are right... it does belong on a frightening thread. I found it bizarre.... then it kept getting more like that as time went. And yes, it was heart wrenching. You just can't help it.

Wearing new socks to bed (It's chilly here)-purple with green eyed bats and sparkly pumpkins! Sorry, I know this thread is about movies but couldn't resist. You know.... even though I meant for this thread to be used to talk about old Scary movies... and boy do I have some things to post here soon on that too. I also think from the name of the title there is room for more to be discussed than just movies. See, this morning while driving down the road, I was listening to the radio. They had a topic for the morning where they asked callers to call in and talk about anything that creeps them out. They were meaning ordinary things that because of Hollywood and movies they are now deemed creepy or evil. It was mentioned that for some kids, things are alright to touch during the daytime... or when the lights are on, but late at night, because it is dark suddenly it's scary.... like, a doll on the shelf. Things like clowns. They mentioned just night seems to make a difference too. Walking in old houses are not quite the same as walking in them after the sun goes down. Why do ghost hunters only hunt at night and not the day? One caller said she gets freaked out every time she sees a single eyeball on something... It's worse if it blinks. But if there ar two eyeballs, it's not the same. When she said that single eyeball thing I laughed thinking of Mad Eye Moody. ;D Still, I think it's funny how they are right about things. Hollywood has changed the way we see everyday things. They said the same things about hauntings... there is always a house in every town that is haunted. There are many towns with that old ghost story about a hitch hiker ghost who is walking home from a school or town dance. She always leaves her coat or something in the car.. then when the person goes to return it the mom answers the door only to tell the person that her daughter died ten years ago on that road. Urban Legends that seem to be so similar in every state. Back to everyday things and Hollywood's affect... I know naked trees look more creepy to me at night ever since I watched Poltergeist. Who knew a tree could eat a boy? Then Jonny Depp's Sleepy Hollow... again a tree eating people? What's up with that? ;D
