Haunted houses are one of the things that scare me most, especially after watching The Shining. And after reading the book It and watching the miniseries I think clowns will always be a little scary to me.

Oh my.... I can't stand Steven King. Don't get me wrong. I've always loved bizarre stories.. but his really takes the cake. Most of the time the subject content doesn't fit or connect for some reason. Although, the one book I read of his the style of writing is fine.... it's the subject matter that threw me.
As for the clown. I never saw that connection when it came to the story IT.
I LOVE haunted house stories. Funny, I just pointed to a house out in the country less than an hour ago and told my daughter that it looked creepy to me.
The Shining... Now THAT was an excellent film.... was that also Steven King? If so, then I'll have to say it's probably the only one of his works that I liked. Scared the bajeebeez outta me when i was a kid... even now. Haunted hotels... another is Psycho... the original version by Alfred Hitchcock.
Birds... big black ones never seemed to bother me until I watched that film by the same name.
I mentioned Trees don't seem the same to me after watching horror films... I mentioned Poltergeist and Sleepy Hollow for the trees there eating people. Then later on I was thinking about one I watched again a couple of weeks ago, The Brother's Grimm. The trees moved. The forest was enchanted and even attacked a group of soldiers.
This afternoon I watched another film. I debated wheather or not to post this comment on the Deja Vu thread or this one... We watched a film called "The Woods." Again... this one had witches and ghosts and an enchanted forest with a school located way out in the middle of no where. There were vines from the trees and roots that would reach out and get people... yes some ended up dead. But that is a scary move for you. Rented this one... no need to buy it.

Clowns are creepy to me...because of Poltergeist.
Miss C. Have you ever seen any of these movies? The Green Mile, Stand by Me, or The Shawshank Redemption?

Actually yes. I know they too are Steven Kings. They just were not ones I liked enough to watch a second time. They were ok I guess.... but for some reason, to me, they were missing something.

Now Misery was a good scary movie based on one of Steven King's books. I don't think I'd ever read the book though. And once is pleanty enough for watching that film. I had to cover my eyes and mute the tv when I saw a certain part. ;D

Oh Erin,
You have names several of the finest movies of the last decades of the 20th Century there. Also some of the best books ever written.
Sorry Miss Charlotte, Those movies really are among the top 100 of the last half of the 20th in my humble opinion.
Misery was also an exceptional movie. Kathy Bates was spectacular!
The book was even better too.

Yes...as always, the books are better than the movies...but I thought they did an exceptional job with them, even so. Misery is right up there, too...but I also have to look away at that part!

AMC channel seems to be having a marathon of Stephen King movies this week. Last night they had Christine, Carrie, and one about werewolves I'd never heard about called SIlver Bullet. I had to go to bed before that Silver Bullet was over but now it's on again. But in the meantime I have got waylaid by Some LIke It Hot being on TCM-that belongs on the oldies but goodies thread I know, but I forgot how much fun that movie is.

Right now Pet Cemetary is on. I knew that one would be shown soon. I remember as a kid I loved scary movies... and of course as you all know, I love cats. I could not really get into a book that did not have any pictures in it when I was a kid... (no patience) but I did have wishes. I wanted so much to read that book so checked it out of the library many times with intent. Then they made it into this film. I was so happy that I would finally have the chance to find out what this story was all about. Then once I saw it, I was a bit grossed out.

I just got to watch a movie this weekend called the Sorcerers Apprentice with Nicholas Cage in it.
It started out a little slow but got much better as it went along.
I would suggest it for a night of fun, non thinking just clean entertainment. Sometimes that is the absolute best kind of movie.
It was made by the Disney Studios and has a great scene with its own take on the famous animated Fantasia dancing mops scene too!

Yeah.... That film is one on my wish list. I liked it too. ........ OK... just for the moment.. A question.... What are YOUR normal Halloween traditions? Right now my daughter is getting ready to go to our church for a chili cookoff ... well that is normally for the adults... everyone eats the chili and someone brings tons of hot dogs and fixins. THere is a party with booths and games.... a cake walk... most everyone wears costumes if they wish.. kids and adults. They are so fun to watch. This is all indoors in the gym. Well... when all gets dark, the adults go outside and decorate the backs of their cars, trucks .. the Trunks. Then they sit at the back of their cars... whatever and wait for the kids to come outside. The kids go from trunk to trunk trick or treating... they call it trunk or treating. IT's so fun. The kids go around to all of the cars over and over again until everyone is out of candy. Sometimes there is a hay ride also out there in the back field. It's fun. SO... what all do YOU guys do on Halloween? I mean we still will have the traditional trick or treating that is done at home on Halloween night to look forward to.

I'll tell you one thing... Paranormal Activity 3 was much more intense than the first two. My blood ran cold. I rented the first two and had to see this recent one at the theater. You could have heard a pin drop... everyone was holding their breath. They didn't have any theme music playing in the background. I missed most of the ending so I will have to go back again to see it again in completion. Yep.. this time by myself. I'm glad my daughter did not stay to watch as much as I did... things were bad enough... A friend of mine from work said she has been having nightmares ever since. LOL! WOW.... what a movie to watch during this season?

OK.... just rented a GOOD scarey movie. It's called Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. I sat here with my daughter... both of us curled up under blankets with the lights off. She kept asking what those things were. I knew from my love of a certain type of mythical creature what their origins were like from research. Hideous awful little things. She only knew of their more modern etherial version that she didn't understand what I was talking about. Sure enough, there they said it. So cool. But if you do watch it, just a warning... not only will it make you want to sleep with the lights on, there are a few spots that are pretty gross. My daughter freaked out at one spot close to the end. ;D I like scarey things... not so into gross things. At least rent it.... and watch it with the lights off. We are going to buy it. All we kept talking about is showing it to her friends... How Sam (a little meany friend of my daughter's) Knowing how she reacted when she watched The Ring at what was supposed to be a sleep over... she ran home and didn't come back for weeks. She associated this house (and her family used to live in this house before we bought it) with that scarey movie. I don't really care for the little girl, but if she watches THIS film, my daughter said she'll probably watch the whole thing then run out as soon as it's over to go home. Yeah... my daughter has a mean streak like I do. OH and to make a Harry Potter tie in.... and without giving it away.. JKR has this magical creature listed in her books.

Just got a new pair of socks today-Halloween ones with black spiders all over them. Have decided to call them my Hagrid socks since he was known to be very fond of spiders.

OH that is so sweet! *wiggles my toes* I'm still in barefoot season. I can't wait to get me some new halloween socks. My old ones have holes. I really am beginning to get excited. I guess because of the cooler temperatures. I'm ready for the leaves to fall. I'd like to decorate the entire house in little ghosts this year. They have those huge Halloween stores open down here already. I saw two last week. My daughter wants to paint her skin blue and go as an Avatar from the film of that name. The other day I mentioned that she could find some blue silk stockings and we can put make up for the striped look if she wants. But I had ONE request if I allow her to do this. She has to go as one of those still at the camp. I'm not having her go as one of the natives. This summer she's been TRYING to push her boundaries... trying to wear short shorts and cleavage revealing tank tops. Grrrrrr.... Her body seems to be growing faster than her mind's maturity. I got to reighn that girl in... But with some rolled up jeans and a shirt, she can still have the blue skin and such. I think one of those Halloween stores might have a wig etc to look at. I just hope it's going to be really cold by then. ;D

Sounds like you have your hands full Miss C! That does sound like a cool costume though,I can see it winning Most Original at a costume party. I'm already seeing lots of advertisements for scary movies coming out, wondering if Dan R's movie Woman In the Window might be shown on tv sometime this season.

It's funny that you mentioned his movie. I was at the rental store just last night when I noticed that I still have yet to buy me a copy of it.

Halloween socks are out! I bought two pairs today, one with a black cat and one with spiders all over them. I figure socks and spiders have a Harry Potter connection too.
