I just use bones for my dogs and biscuits. I've had several dogs throughout the years that’ve all grown to an old age and not one ever had tooth problems. My problems right now are with the dog's ears. With Sif her ears are clean and healthy. Hope who is Sif's mother and really my mother's dog, but I have taken her in since my mom is too old has really bad ears and she constantly scratches them. I am cleaning her ears every day and they seem to be getting healthier. My sister's dog’s ears are as bad as Hope's were because she simply has stopped taking care of the ears as much as she used to. Ever since Diana got a new boy friend her priorities have changed. Starting this last week I've started to clean the ears of Diana's dogs. Are we supposed to be discussing magical animals in this thread? If so are we supposed to be making up new magical animals or discussing those which J.K. Rowling wrote about?

Rallem, Most of this thread is about our own, not-so-magical friends.

If ever there is a question as to the meaning of a thread... best thing to do, if not just ask like you just did.. is to probably read the first post. Normally all is explained at one go. But I am so glad that you asked. This is a thread where we are talking about OUR very own magical pets at home. There are so many times I've seen on other sites where cat people would tell tales of how their cats seem to be so smart that they are a lot like kneazles... My cats and I actually talk to each other and I know what they are wanting depending upon HOW they meow to me. They are smart in how they relay their wants, desires, anger and more. Just to watch the things they do you see their personalities. I'm sure it's the same way with dog people or people who have other pets. It's the beauty and magic I see between owner and pet... they are more like family and are more loyal than anyone. I find this kind of love magical and would not trade it for anything in the world.
....
I had a golden retriever once. Her name was Sunshine. I remember not only did she have allergies to her food, causing me to have to bathe her in specially prescribed medicated shampoo daily, but I had to tend to her ears too. She was an old dog when I got her. She had not been properly taken care of in the past. This caused her to have so much scar tissue that her ears were permanently swollen. Oh it just pains me to see people neglect and abuse their pets. And this dog was the most wonderful dog in the world. I miss her dearly. With all her medication needs I could not afford to take care of her myself so I had to return her to the foundation in Chicago that rescued her. I really wish I could afford 200 dollars on her every 5-6 weeks, but I just could not. So instead of keeping her for selfish reasons, I had to love her enough to let her go. She was indeed magical to my family and myself for the time we had her. I would never trade any of that time for anything in the world.

Does anyone watch The Puppy Bowl that's on Animal Planet-for people who want something to watch instead of the Super Bowl. It's so cute, the puppies are adorable. It made me wonder if the wizard's would have something like this during the Quiddich World Cup-some kind of alternative viewing. Maybe a kneazle bowl because kneazles are so smart they could make up all kinds of fun games. I thought of a Dragon Bowl but it would be too hard for someone like Hagrid-he'd be too torn between which thing to watch!!

I might be wrong but during some game at Thanksgiving they have a dog show... not puppies but full grown dogs. Or is it during Christmas? I've watched part of those some years. But I like your idea... I mean, not everyone watches football.. There has to be some witches or wizards who don't care too much for Quidditch... maybe Luna?

I do not remember seeing a Puppy Bowl, but I did once come across a show where the dogs had to run the bizarre obstacle courses while being urged on by their masters...

I did notice that there was another dog show on recently. Yahoo headlines said that they had a surprise winner this time.
Oh I love those kinds of shows... when it's not easily predicted.

At home I have two yellow labs. Sif is the youngest lab in the house and she was given to me by my Mom as a puppy. I also am now taking care of Sif's mom named Hope. Hope and my mother's only other remaining dog Missy were simply spending too much time in the dog shelter which my dad put too far away from the house in my opinion, and they were not getting enough human interaction. Anyways my parents are getting quite old and once my mother gotten seriously hurt when tripping out of the shelter. She was simply physically not capable of taking care of her dogs so my sister and I took them in. Diana has two Black Labs named Morgan and Gracie. Missy was the mother of Morgan, and the grandmother of Gracie. Missy was quite old and very close to death last autumn so my mother after talking with the vet had her put to sleep so we could bury her in my parent’s property. The vet advised my mother that Missy would not survive the winter and my mom could not cope with her body being thrown in dump because the ground would be too hard, so we had her euthanized.

OH that is sad Rallem... But I know it's better for your mom. More of a reassurance that she's taken care of being close. I, for one, have been seeing long haired black cats everywhere lately. Even as I pulled up to my apartment, there in the window of the apartment facing my car was one. It was sitting in the window watching me. It makes me feel like Frostie really has not gone off to who knows where. Maybe she's living on through all of these other cats I keep seeing? This is how bizarre my Mattie cat is... First, Yesterday, I had spent some of my income tax return money. I finally spent some for me... not on my needs list, but my wants. I purchased a brand new 32 inch HD TV and blue ray player for my bedroom.. I so needed this, so I can sleep much better.. No more crashing on the recliner or chase lounge, which makes up for my sitting furnature in the living room. So, I'm nice and comfy and loving it. SO here is my Mattie cat this evening when I woke up. She has just discovered the ceiling. She was most fascinated by it in fact. It was creepy. I kept looking to see if the had spotted any spiders hanging down, since I have had my windows opened for so long.. but none were seen. She was just looking at the ceiling very intently. Weird cat.

So yesterday morning I woke up and Hope who was my Mom's dog put her head on my lap while I was on the computer. I started petting her and noticed that she was shaking uncontrollably. I tried letting her out with Sif to go to the bathroom, but she and Sif did not want to be out there. Afterwards Hope started panting as if in pain, but I couldn’t sense anything wrong with her, so I had her crawl in bed with me and I rubbed her belly which comforted her. After a few minutes of that I decided to get dressed and take the girls outside to go to the bathroom and play some ball. Well Hope went to the bathroom in a major way and things seemed to be better and we went back to bed. I then woke up at about 7am and Hope started shaking again, so I asked my sister for help with her since Diana has more experience than I do. Diana called my Mom and told her worse case news as she was going to work, so my mom came to my house as soon as she could. Well between that time and the time she got to my house, I had started rubbing Hope’s belly, which made things better. My mom came by at about 9am and while she and I talked Hope began shaking again. It turns out Hope had a tummy ache I think from a rawhide treat I bought for her. Everything is fine now but Hope is addicted to having her belly rubbed.

My cat Hermione will drop right there at my feet.... while I'm in the kitchen and fall on her back. She will make this strange sound that she makes when she asks something... this time she's asking for me to scratch her belly... Oh she loves that too.
It's that level of communication between my cats and myself... (as well as the pets you guys have and their communication with you) that prompted me to start this thread.
Come to think about it... I have no idea where either of them are right now.

Have you ever took a look at your dog when it's really really happy? If so, did you notice normally that is when it's sticking it's tongue out at you? Maybe having a laugh, huh? ;D Me... puts on my headphones and listens to some rockin music for a while. i41.TP .com/v33sk5.gif[/img]

When C.J. is happy he actually smiles and his little teeth show and his eyes are all bright.. Other than that, when I am hold him on my lap and he falls asleep with me rubbing his ears he begins to snore really loud.. I know then that he is very happy too.

Love that pic of the rockin' cat! I never knew that about Shi Tsu-I am always learning something new on here. I know Old English Sheepdogs usually have their tails docked. I read somewhere it used to be so farmers who used them for work could get a tax exemption. There is a lady in town who has a beautiful art gallery and gift shop. She is from England and just loves Andy because he is an English breed. Today he was so excited to see her when we walked by, he got away from me and ran right into the shop! I was screaming-talk about a bull in a china shop-I was scared something would get broken! We got out safely-then we went outside to visit. I had to laugh-the other lady who works there shut the door on us just as quickly as she could!

I was in a goofy mood this morning when I posted that. Really, I just love to see dogs do that... They actually smile and it's very obvious that that is what they are doing. And that smile is catching. Fangsfan... Andy got loose in a shop? Sounds like he was happy to see your friend. ;D oh and it was not until this morning that I noticed that that rockin cat looks an awful lot like my Miss Charlotte Ocelot down below my posts.
