It seems as though every site I've ever been to, I hear people comment on how our pets seem to bring a sort of magical element into our lives. Where would we be without them?
So this is a place to talk about our non-human family members. Some of the Weird things pets do... or how we just seem to come alive when they are around.
Right now, I only have my trio of cats.. Mattie, Hermione and Frostie. But I've had so many many more pets in the past of all sorts of colors shapes and sizes.

Oh I love this thread as you can imagine. My kneazle, Duke, got caught in the act this weekend. He was up on his counter where his treats are and wasn't getting a treat fast enough from my sister. So she turned around and caught him taking his nose and pushing notepads off the counter to get attention. He is a big moocher! That's my story for today.

I only have one pup at the moment. Had a rough year loosing 3 last year.. Shame, I was on the phone with my sister last night for an hour.. Her older of her two dogs has suddenly stopped eating.. Her twin sons both left for college over the past week and it seem Duncan, who is a Golden Retriever and in his late 12th year is about ready to stay with my three that I lost last year. I think that he was heartbroken at their leaving home.. The vet said that he will most likely not make it more than a week at best... Poor Duncan,,, My nephew who just started school up by where Erin lives wants to come home on the train to say goodbye.. My sister said no, he has to settle in as this is his first week at school. They do mean a great deal to us... More than we will ever know until it is time to say goodbye... Sorry for the downer...

Couldn't your nephew come home on Saturday? It might actually help Duncan to know that they might be gone now but will return.

No, they are supposed to be there for the entire first few weeks without leaving.
He is there on a Soccer Scholarship and he is supposed to be staying with the team no ifs ands or buts.

Well, if it makes things any better.. the vets don't really know all. I mean we take ours to a very reputable one. We had to take Frostie in for having some teeth surgically removed. Who'd have thought we are supposed to brush out cats teeth? Still, we didnt know then that she has a problem with the anesthetic.. She died on the table several times. So they stopped everything just to bring her around quick. Anyway, to skip a lot of the info.. they said they were not sure if she would last long.. they thought cancer of the jaw. They didn't give her long.. and she was old even then. Now this was about four years ago.. Guess what? She's sitting here next to me. I might have to give her her food in small frequent doses.. but she chases Mattie around like she was a kitten herself again.. She had not been playful in about 8 years at that. I wish you well and please keep us posted. Pets might just be animals to some people, but they are family to the rest of us.

OK... I just have to post this.. two things in fact. Fangsfan... I seem to recall you once mentioned a strange thing your Duke liked to do... Tote around was it people's socks or a small towel? I can not remember is't been a while... Well, my two older cats only seem to play when Mattie.. the little instigator, jumps up and messes with them. Hermione is the grumpy one of the three and as time goes by she hisses less and less at her. She's finally comeing out to play with her.. still, they only seem to play WITH her... not any "thing" else that often. So I know their behaviours. SO I believe Mattie must be the one who had done this... See, I'm lazy when it comes to folding socks. I have a wicker basket that my daughter used to sleep in when she was a tiny infant. I use it for my sock basket these days. Well, the other day I wondered why I kept finding socks in odd places all over my living room. Yep she must have pulled a Duke and had some fun. I did think of your cat when I realised all of this. Second thing.. Mattie again. Yesterday I just realized how she likes to help me do laundry.. Yep the sorting.. she helped with that... tried to catch every item before it hit the pile I meant for it to go into. Jumped up in the air and everything... Liked to reach through the holes of the hamper to get the items as they were being pulled out. Then she'd follow me into the washer room.. If I dropped a sock, she'd attack it to let me know I missed something. She even helps me make my son's bed by jumping up there to help the sheets smoothe out.. even hides under them too. My other two cats want an escape route.. where Mattie actually intentionally crawls under the covers with us. ok... sorry for rambling.

:DThat is so funny Grandpa L! Yes Duke brings all kinds of things, mostly from upstairs and deposits them on the living room floor. Bows are his favorites-he has a box of bows upstairs and when it gets empty I fill it up for him. For Christmas and birthdays that's one of the presents I get for him-more bows. He also likes to bring down small towels, tee shirts, shorts and once he even brought a dress downstairs. One day I was sitting in the living room and he came out carrying a little metal sign in his mouth with our house number on it. I didn't realize what it was and for a minute thought he had a mousetrap! August thirty first was his birthday-happy 8th birthday Dukie!

Yay Happy Birthday Duke! In our house Hermione is our tote cat. She will hold her head up as if she is so proud of herself.. and when she carries something down the hall she makes this strange very unique meow sound. Normally it's when she has her fishing pole.. but she won't play with it with someone.. she has to do that alone. We would be sitting there in the living room and there she goes wandering through the house so proud of herself. But shes never toted a sign.. ;D That is funny. I"m sure CJ's done things like this as well...

Duke says thank you for the birthday wishes! It's a funny thing about catnip-I have had some cats who just could care less about it and others who go crazy for it. I guess it's just likes us where we all have our own food likes and dislikes. I think that must make such a cute picture with Hermione and her fishing pole!

Yeah... I guess you might be right.. I mean My Hermione cat just loves my hubby's stinky socks... She will roll around in them like she's in heaven. ;D It freaks me out that I have to shoo her away.

Just to let you know, the twin boys came home for the holiday weekend and unfortunately, Duncan passed away about 5 minutes after they showed up. My poor sister was so sad yesterday and one of the boys was completely beside himself.. See Duncan grew up with those boys and slept on their beds...

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that, Duddahs....so sad.
Most of you know...I used to have kneazles. They used to "talk" to us all the time, and really looked like they understood everything. Now I have Winky and Dobby, who are lovely cats...but not great house-elves...and really not up to par with kneazles...they are cute, and very friendly, though!

Duddahs I'm so sorry to hear that and for the twins too. I know it's like losing a member of the family.

For some reason my post didn't go through... Oh I am so sorry about Duncan, Duddah. I know at times like these I always think of how much I miss my orange striped cat named Spot. I had her forever. She even watched over my kids like they were hers. It does not matter that I have these other three cats, it never does get easier for me now that she is gone. She was always there for me when no one else was. I guess this was how it was for your nephews. Hopefully their transitioning on to their new stage of their lives might help things not be so bad.

Thank you to everyone here. I actually passed on the well wishes to my sister over the weekend. She was very softly brought to tears that people who she had never actually met could have such open and giving hearts. The boys are both back at their respective schools today. Their other dog, Roxy is beside herself... They brought her down to my cook out over the weekend and she and my own C.J. seemed to commiserate with each other, C.J. having lost his father, mother and grandfather just last year.. Almost the entire eve, they both curled up on C.J.s puff pillow which looks like a large square dark brown zebra fur which has the memory foam inside to keep its shape.. The two of them were found time and again, curled up together and snoring... Funny thing is Roxy is a full sized boarder collie and C.J. is a Shi Tzu... It was a site to see though.... Again, thanks.... You are all too kind.
