I walked to work today. When I get close to the hospital I go up a dirt road behind some of the Dr's offices that has woods on one side. I heard one of those is that what I think it is noises, looked and the woods were full of wild turkeys! I watched them for a while and thought how I would have to post this on the Magical Creatures thread when I got home.

We had a Magical Creature sighting last night as we were heading out of Shell Cottage to have dinner at the Newport Club..
As I walked outside, up the front walk and stood along side the car awaiting Duddahs Mom, Dad and better half to come out and enter the vehicle, there, sitting still as a statue was a huge brown rabbit!
Now remember it is Easter today and I am sure that it was Peter Cottontail setting out his little eggs for the neighborhood boys and girls..
He waited until we all were seated into the car, we all watched him for a few moments and as we drove down the street we could see him scampering toward the backyard...
So, you see, there really must be an Easter Bunny! My mom was so tickled.
When we returned, I filled the bowl on the dining room table with Cadburry Eggs, Stover's Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs which she loves and some Peanut Butter Eggs by Reese's for me! Oh and remember, Duddahs has a thing for very good Jelly Beans so those are right there for now too.. But not too long I can assure you.
Happy Easter all!

Duddahs, when I visited Connecticut, I saw so many wild rabbits, it was cool! Today was a bird day for me. I saw goldfinches, Baltimore orioles, and the hummingbirds are finally coming to my feeder. I also had a big blue heron flying over my house, they like the brook which is near my house and usually come back when the weather starts to get warm.

We've got the little rabbits around here, too. Most easy to spot in the evening as the sun is starting to go down. They are so cute!
Yesterday, on my drive in to work, I was stopped at a red light, and a little sparrow landed at the bottom of my window. It seemed to just peek in and say hi, then fly off....maybe carrying a little message! lol

Today I was sitting in the back yard reading and bird watching and I kept hearing this kind of rustling sound in the leaves from the woods. I kept thinking it must be a bird but then it was just taking too long and making too much noise. Finally I said I've got to check this out and it was a huge turtle! I think he was making for the brook which is a little way down in the woods. He was walking as slow as can be and didn't pay me a bit of attention!

That is funny about the Turtle..
We have Snapping Turtles and I mean big ones that live in the lake in front of my house.
I often see the babies walking down the driveway toward the water after they have hatched.

I usually see them sitting on rocks but I don't know if I ever saw one walking before-it was funny because he was so slow, reminded me of the old tortoise and the hare story.

I have a honeysuckle (I think) bush in my front yard. It usually gets too big and my sister has to cut it back. I told her she'll have to wit this year because I've discovered there's a bird's nest in it! No babies yet but the mother is sitting on the nest every time I walk by.

Today I walked by the nest that I posted about above and two little baby heads popped up for a sec-so tiny. The mother wasn't there but was later sitting on the nest. And I can't believe I forget to post about my most exciting magical creature siting-an eagle! I have never ever seen one outside of tv and pictures and have always wanted too. It was when we went to visit my cousins who were up from CT staying in a little cottage by the lake. We were walking in and this bird flew right over my head and I said to my sister does that look like an eagle and she thought so too. Later we were all sitting by the water, he flew right over us and my cousin said it was definitely an eagle. I was sooo excited!

Have you guys heard about those thunder shirts they have for dogs to help them with fear of thunderstorms? My cousins gave me one for Andy for Christmas, a very tight fitting grey shirt. We put it on him this evening because he's so scared of firecrackers-people are shooting them off all over the place tonight. I didn't think it would help but he was immediately calmer as soon as he had it on-amazing.

Our birds nest babies have left the nest now, but I had the best time watching them. I figured out they were American Redstarts. Because the nest in the bush was so low to the ground it was right at eye level. On my walks I could pass by and look right in. Then when I was watering my flowers I was also right at eye level, I saw the mother sitting on the nest several times. And then after the babies were born you would see the little heads sticking up out of the nests. The best thing was actually seeing the father feeding a baby bird once. This was the best view of a birds nest I have ever had.

I wonder if your baby birds are on their way to Hogwarts to help students learn the Avias charm?

Big Dog Story... Growing up, the only dog we knew was my Mom's little Scamper, a Boston terrier/Jack Russell mix. She was a sweet little dog but very old and quiet. My neighbor up the street had this big bulldog-he had a pushed in scowly face and seemed huge to me and I was petrified of him. Bully was usually kept in the house or on a rope until one day I was walking up the hill and there came Bully walking toward me-loose! I was scared to death and didn't know what to do, thought he might chase me if I ran so just kept walking towards him. When we were face to face, he walked up to me and started slobbering over me and kissing my face. I realized that this ferocious looking dog was actually a big pussycat and we were always great friends afterward. I guess this was my first experience with finding out how great big dogs can be, gentle giants who are as cuddly as the little tiny ones.

Fangsfan,,
I had a big German Sheppard, growing up...big even for that breed. I remember riding him like a pony! I WAS scared of little dogs! A Dachsund in our neighborhood had jumped up and bit my brother, so I was afraid of little dogs for the longest time! ...and Dobermans...another neighbor had a vicious one, though I have since met some very nice little dogs, and Dobermans!

That's so funny Erin! I guess it's what you get used to too. I love German Shepherds, my first dog Arthur was a mix of shepherd/golden/collie and he was wonderful. And I used to be scared of Dobermans too but then another neighbor had one and she was a sweetheart and I fell in love with her.

I love having animals around at Christmas-they seem to enjoy the holidays so much!
Oh we are going to have a nightmare this year.... but I'll still be glad for it.
A couple of weeks ago, we literally rescued a baby kitten from the road. She was about 5 weeks old. We were in the middle of some other hick town's main street. No residences around, only work offices, or store establishments around. We actually rode over her (straddled our tires over her) with our van. She had been hurt. Hubby stopped immediately stopping traffic behind us, so to make sure no one actually hit her with their tires. He told our daughter to get out and pick her up, which she did.
Turned out she was in total, complete shock. I've never witnessed anything like it. I held her the rest of the day until she clamed down. We had to feed her for the first few days by way of an eye dropper and canned cat formula. each day she became stronger and stronger. Thank goodness for that. Her only injury was a broken tail, which after a couple of weeks fell off. We had taken her to the vet to make sure she was alright. He told us to expect that her tail will come off on it's own, and how to treat her nub after that.
We always said that we will never have more than three cats. Four is entirely too much. But this one came to us on purpose. My daughter calls her Angel since she says lord must have had a guardian angel looking out for her to bring her into our home. This little thing is a mess. She's no angel indeed. I just call her Kitten, since she's still small and I can't think of anything else to call her but "a mess" LOL. Hubby feels the same.
She's a calico. She's strong and doing exceptionally well. Despite the state she was in when she came to us, this cat has absolutely NO FEAR AT ALL! WE know when Christmas gets here, we are going to be in for trouble. Still, she's worth it.
