My dog Andy is in his glory this holiday season. He got 5 squeakers from different sources for Christmas: an owl, a frog, a reindeer, a candy cane (grunting) and a moose (also grunting).

C.J. went crazy ripping packages open under the tree this year.
He has never done this before but he would not stop until he found a bag that my mother gave to him. It was filled with these home made biscuits just for him.
He beat on the bag with his paws and lay in front of it making all sorts of pig oinking noises until I finally paid attention to him and opened up the package for him..
He has not stopped eating them yet except to sleep or to run in the kitchen and drink water. He does not even want to eat his cheese and ham that I give him every day.
Spoiled!

OK..... curiosity has killed THIS cat.... why is your dog grunting? I hope it's that he likes them or is it that he's driving you nuts with these two in particular?

OH Duddah... your story about CJ reminds me so much of something my mother said to me years ago about a dog she had back then. (Sadly, that dog died of old age, so this really is an old story.) Anyway... she once bought my son, who at the time was her only grandchild, a toy stuffed animal. She was in the process of wrapping all of the gifts. OK.... back up a second. This dog had two different wicker baskets filled to the max of toys just for her. One is kept in Mom's bedroom, and the other in the living room. Anyway, she kept wanting the toy my mother bought for my son. She begged and pleaded with my mother until my mom actually gave in. She told the dog OK.... go ahead. Once she had permission that toy ended up being her favorite toy for ages. My mother had to go out and buy another toy for my son. Another similar story.. My mom liked to buy those gift sets that you get at the pet stores for her dog. A stocking filled with all sorts of treats, and those stick things... or rawhide chew things... bones or something like this. Anyway, she normally wrapped them up with gift wrap and stuck them under the tree. Well, the scent gave it away to her dog what gift was hers. Normally she would beg to see if she could open it when Mom stuck it under the tree. One year, they came home and it was too late. Her dog could not wait any longer. The place was a mess... wrapping paper torn off. The package was chewed open... and dogie chew things were scattered all over in front of the tree. Then there was her dog, sitting there with a huge smile on her face holding onto one of the bones in her paws. I guess mom put it under the tree too early. I think I would have waited until Christmas eve. Still.... those stories like this are so cool to hear. Our magical creatures are smart. I didn't get to buy anything for my cats this past season... But I plan on buying them their favorite soon.... a package of about ten colored mice. For some reason they love the orange one most. They too have a wicker basket filled with their toys... for some reason there are few that they actually play with. Still, those regular old mice seem to be the ones missing all of the time until I catch them carrying them around in their mouth. Hermione actually likes to meow with one in her mouth as she holds her head up high. She acts like she's all proud of what she caught.... EVEN though it's a fake mouse. Oh and I DO congratulate her on her feat. ;D

It' s actually the squeakers that grunt. You know how they have the stuffed dog toys with the squeakers in them-well now they have ones that make a grunting noise instead of squeaking-hi tech! Andy loves those grunters. They even have a bird one now that tweets and chirps-squeaker technology just keeps improving ;D

At this very moment I am slow cooking rubbed Baby Back Ribs in the oven (takes about hours or so),
Any way,, C.J. is walking around the house sniffing the air constantly.
It is so funny, he knows it smells great in the house right now. It is just driving him crazy that he can not figure out where it is coming from though.
Not to worry, he will have a stockpile of bones (with generous amounts of meat attached) all of his own later this eve.
Still he is so funny, He walked smack dab into a wall while sniffing the air and looking up at the ceiling!

Does anyone else watch the Puppy bowl on Animal Planet channel? They have it every year on Super Bowl channel. My Andy likes it too and keeps barking at the tv.

So I wanders over and peeks over CJ's shoulders.... takes in the brew... "MEESE soup!" I start to drool. Then wander back over to lean back against a nearby tree. Cross my back legs and chew on a long blade of haygrass, while waiting for my next meal. "Smells good CJ... I think it's just about done." ;D

I've never watched it but I did comment to someone in the room I'd think that would be more fun to watch than the dog one they have..... hmm? is it after the Thanksgiving day parade? That O'hearly guy.... I just LOVE his voice... I know I probably misspelled his name, but I know you must know who I'm talking about.... Well, he often hosts the adult dog show... So who does the puppy bowl? And how did that work? It would be very hard for me to choose from puppy faces due to the fact they are all so cute.

I just can't watch Animal Planet channel.
You see, those ads for the abandoned and abused animals by Sarah McLaughlin just sends me over the edge.
You see, there is this Shi Tzu that has only one eye... Well that hits home all too close for me...
Long story, made not too long but still too long for most.
My Pup C.J. was bred from my now heaven sent pups, Vanderbilt and Astor... Vanderbilt was called Billy and he had the biggest personality for a small dog you would ever wish to see.
He had no idea he was not a HUGE dog.. He was a SUPER ALFA and after he was 1 year old, something went wrong in Billy's head and we could not pet him, hold him, nothing, the only one that could control him was his father, Rockie... (Rockefeller).
Well, Astor and Billy decided to mate when she was about 1 1/2 and he was about 2 1/2. After the puppies were born, we had both of the dogs fixed... Suddenly Billy calmed down and became this massive love bug, lap dog... Yep, it was the testosterone causing his head case.
Anywho, I went on a trip with one of my students to compete and we were away for a week, so I had to board the dog (all 4 at that time) at our vet (not our vet any longer).
While I was away, Billy and C.J. both got bleach in their eyes and developed severe problems. The boarders cleaned the pen they were all staying together in but put them back in before it dried and there was too much bleach on the concrete floor. With their longish hair, it got into the two dogs eyes.
Billy unfortunately kept rubbing his eye with the side of his paw and that Dew Claw that they have tore through his eye. When we returned the vet had to tell us what happened and that they had to temporarily sew his eye closed and we had to bring him to a Vet Opthamologist asap.
We did but poor Billy lost his eye and it was sewn closed.
Because of Billy's beautiful looks, (he honestly was the most beautiful Shi Tzu, I or anyone that had met him had ever seen) well, Billy had this beautiful marking of a Black Racoon's Mask over both eyes while he was mostly White, Gold and Brown.... We let his hair grow a little over the eyes and due to his markings, most people never knew he had lost an eye...
Still, I see that poor abused dog on that commercial and it brings back the pain of the day I saw Billy upon my return from the competition. Still hurts, still angers me...
Billy got along just fine. He took it all in stride and was very loved till the day he went away.
He went the way all dogs should. He became more and more sleepy on a Sunday and by Friday, was no longer eating or drinking. He just simply slept himself away...
He passed from Cushings and we found this out later...
I can not thank Billy enough for all the 12 wonderful years and for C.J. and his other two pups, Belle and Berny who I still get to see from time to time... Oh and yes, thanks to Astor too!

Oh that is just horrible Duddah. I never thought something like that could happen. I hope no other dogs experienced what yours did. And I just met a lady who has Cushings. Her husband was our house guest for a few months. That reminds me I need to call to find out how her surgery went. It was supposed to be last month. Hopefully all went well and she's home. Talking about surgeries.... We were talking about making an appointment for Baby... It's time for her to be fixed. We keep having those boy cats coming around spraying. We were just waiting for payday to come so we could pay the bill. This is for your pup... i48.TP .com/4t4y7a.gif[/img]

He would love that... He used to absolutely love sniffing flowers... He used to eat them too!
His favorite things in the world were rack of Lamb bones, peanuts and buttered popcorn.
He also had this thing for Candy Corn and Jelly beans....

What a great story Duddahs, you have had some wonderful dogs in your time. Years ago we had a cat that lost an eye too, due to some kind of infection and he did just fine with it. And I know what you mean about those commercials, they just break my heart and I have to change the channel.
Miss C, the puppy bowl is kind of a take off on the Super Bowl. They get all these puppies from shelters and put them in a pen with all kinds of toys and let them have a ball playing together. They have a (human) referree who calls plays like it was a football game-there are fouls and touchdowns and a MVP (most valuable puppy) at the end. And for people watching, I think you can go on their website and adopt one of the puppies after if you want to-so they are doing a good service too. One year when I watched it there was this little poodle puppy who was just a riot. The other puppies were on the quiet side and he would just run and run and get them all to going-at times he would be running with a whole bunch of puppies following after him. And of course, he won the MVP.

That sounds absolutely hysterical Fangsfan1.
So what do they get at the end of the puppy bowl?
