2. To communicate between one and the other, this is used especially when speaking with one I would not rather druthers. It is sort of a lost and forgotten art, something that can be solved with pen and ink and proving that you too are smart. Now do not be confused for it is we who are pearly and white, that communicate in this manner, right from our start.
This one has been totally baffling me. At first I thought if was referring to sending messages via your patronus but then realized that didn't fit in with the rest of the clues themes. Then reading Fawkes last clue, I wondered was it the transparent letter that Nick received from the Headless Hunt telling him he didn't qualify?

Sorry Miss Charlotte, a Basilisk is not what Fawkes does seek. Now think of the mode of information Sir Nick did receive. It once again contained the denial he had so become use too, now go on, get to it, read it well and Fawkes will then not have to say Boo! ok thanks.
my brain's sleeping right now. just wanted to let you know I will take another peek in soon.

Ghostly letters are how they communicate with each other. As in the letter that Sir Nick received regarding the Headless Hunt denial. You are absolutely correct fangsfan1. Now on to the bonus round.

Well, looking at the rest of the answers and seeing LOTS of ghosts, I should be shaking in my shoes.
communication, speaking, pearly whites - I think of teeth. na. talking that is a lost art - parceltongue? I'll keep that in mind.
pen and ink - writing? coupled with the above, I think of Riddle Diary. Yep, you have to be smart to know how to work that.
"WE?" " that is pearly and white?" - dead person. Can't be Riddle from the diary. I also go back to teeth, which would be the Basilisk's teeth. But they don't communicate.
Back to the drawing board....
Don't know what a druther is... so.... ? Sounds negative
OK. Conversation... I still have the COS stuck in my mind. Sounds an awful lot like a PASSWORD spoken to something you'd rather not speak to. Could the door to the Secret Chamber AND the Riddle diary?
OK... I'll narrow it down. I'll guess the Basilisk down in the chamber of secrets.
OK.... Sir Nick received a letter, if I am remembering correctly. 2. To communicate between one and the other, this is used especially when speaking with one I would not rather druthers. Hey, a hand written letter is a sort of lost and forgotten art. A person uses pen and ink too. When I think of pearly and white I normally think of "teeth" which also, reminds me mostly of Lockhart and his signing autographs. But I don't think this is what you are looking for. Perhaps the ghosts that have been mentioned. They might be the "pearly whites."
So, the answer has to be... letter.

These clues all seem to add up to Prof Slughorn. The island sweet would be the crystallized pineapple. I remember him changing himself into an easy chair so he could hide from the deatheaters-but Dumbledore discovered him. He joined in the battle of Hogwarts to fight against Voldemort, who wanted to live forever. And he was proud of all his famous friends in the Slug club, but I agree he could be insecure, especially about the fact that he told LV about horcruxes. Good one Fawkes-and can't wait to see how all these will be linked!

His parents were older when they had him. Then we know that eventually Harry will die, but he barely died before Lily. So, I'll go with James Potter.

1. Once upon a time there I was, one of two. Now I am but one, and not very much fun. To hide what I know and have seen through the years, has force me to deny the one that I loved though I never shed tears. WAS one of two.... fun.... not not..... I was leaning more to George since he's the only fun twin left, but he's sad.... But I can't think of what he would be hiding, or that he saw. Nor can I think of what George would deny to someone he loved... and we know he shed tears when Fred died. This is one that is making me think. So.... to begin again. I think of two brothers, one lost. I think of Sirius and Regulus Black. It also could mean Sirius and Harry's father being best of two friends... with Harry's dad being gone, Sirius I think felt deep despair that I honestly don't see that he probably ever found that release in tears to let him move on from the loss of his best friend. He hid himself up from the world, keeping all the knowledge of the things that he knew happened that night to himself. SO.... I'll have to say my answer possibly is Sirius Black.

Fawkes is sorry to say, Sirius Black is not the one that did not go away Miss Charlotte. This is the one riddle that indeed will be hard to achieve but if you think really hard you will see it and put your head upon your sleeve.
For going to bat is what you must do, this characters undoing was by one who slithers along side He who must always hide.

.....
Hmm? Ok I almost want to say Wormtail. I doubt he shed any tears, but he was one of four, so no not him. Besides he caused his mess.
George shed tons of tears so it's not him.
one who slithers? Nagini. So Nagini killed him. You know, I never thought about it like this before, most of her associations were eating people, but she didn't eat Snape nor Bathillda Bagshot. Let me see, who else... who else were her victims? OK.. I'll take a step back, some of those she ate were fed to her but they were already killed like Charity Burbage. OK.... who else?
Wait.... Snape. He was Lily's friend, then when she died he was alone. He hid the fact he loved her keeping it secret, seeing so much through the years. He denied that he loved Lily, not shedding any tears. THE BOOK has the memories come NOT from tears, but from the stuff oozing from his wound.
So, yes.. I do put my head upon my sleeve. Snape is the answer indeed.
