Yes, I can remember when the secretary told me she heard on the radio that a plane had crashed into one of the towers. We all thought it was just a small plane...an accident....and then a few minutes later, she said the other one had been hit by another plane. We went into the library (the only room with cable in our school) and watched what was happening on TV (no students, of course). I called my brother, who flew a lot for work, and amazingly, got through to him. He was on his roof watching it all from a few miles away. I tried calling my best friend, who I knew took the PATH train from NJ, and goes right under the WTC. She was 7 months pregnant, and I couldn't get in touch with her. Then I called her parents house, and they anwered the phone saying "------ is fine!" I'm glad they did, because I was so choked up I couldn't speak...I went into the bathroom and just started bawling.
Amazingly, no one I knew personally died that day. Though I know LOTS of people who were there, growing up only an hour away. I do know OF some people who didn't make it. And I have heard firsthand, lots of stories about being there that day...some that give me the shivers to this day...

Yeah it is always good to have a time of mourning then take a deep breath then do something to cheer one's self up after something so big.
I know one of my sister in laws once lived in Oklahoma when that building was bombed... I think it was one of the practice events for this one for 911. Well, my sister in law's (then) hubby was in the navy back then. His base was on lock down and they were not allowed to speak with family for a time. She had a nervous breakdown when this happened. She could not deal with anything that was going on and then not being able to find out if he was alright. I kept saying just turn the tv off... turn it off. but she couldn't not for long after she already knew he was just fine. It became an obsession for ages after that.
I like the idea... some things we can do something about, but if we can't, we need to find a way to bring a smile to the world, in doing so we can help ourselves to have a smile too. It's not belitting the event... It's hoping to add courage that things can get better.

I've been trying out all the different skins and am now back on my favorite Hagrid one. I can't believe I didn't notice before but each different forum has a little pic of Hagrid beside it, even one with him riding the motorcycle-so cool!

I made a new one over the weekend... Not sure if I'll keep it up. I need to make sure it's ok to use the background image.. but It's The Map for the theme park. I love how the colors all went, now that I am getting the hang of all of this. Then I tried to do something with the font for that skin. I like that font but it's so tiny for some reason.. it makes it hard for some to see. I don't want to change the font size on the entire board, but this one skin... that's another hunt to work on finding. Still, thanks Fangsfan.. Oh and I had been tinkering with the icons so that was not something you missed earlier. I"m not finished with some of them, so I'll do more tinkering as time passes.. BUT if something is ever a problem... a font you can't read.. or a color too bright.. or if something anyone here might want to be put back the way it was... PLEASE PLEASE everyone, this is for your comfort and enjoyment.. not any trouble for me to do any changes, so please let me know.

LOL. I always know when my friend's daughter finds her account open...she always writes glowing things as if her mom wrote them. "I have the best daughter in the whole wide world...I just love her so much!" LOL We always know it's her daughter!

Well... really I'll have to ask Rallem what shows up for me.. because I just talked with daughter, to poke her back for doing this to me.. she said with a straight face she didn't... that she does not know my password. Then she tried to get it out of me.. so.. no go there. ;D That little monster she is. But she did something I don't know about... she said she tagged that picture and me... whatever that means. I know when I found that pic online, months ago, I told her to look over my shoulder because I found a picture of her.. so she came to look and saw that weird cat thing. Later, I snuck and put it on her computer for her to find... Yep, I still leave strange things on her computer desktop picture if she walks off and leaves her computer on. If she does not want to get embarrassed if her friends walk in with her... she's going to have to turn it off or at least put it on standby... So I honestly thought this was her getting me back. I'm so hopeless when it comes to Facebook... I'm still not really wanting to go on there. But I'll bet you anything... My daughter would be the same as your friend's daughter... sounds just like what she would do too. ;D

"tagging" is what someone does to identify that it's you in the picture. If you wave your mouse over it, your name pops up. I have my Facebook account set to notify me if someone tags me ni a picture, because it shows up on my wall, for all my friends to see....you never know who might tag a picture, saying its you! You can untag them if you want.

I've actually heard of tagging but on anything.. not just people.. My p.bucket has that option and I am left scratching my head.

The funny thing... that cat is also on you tube.. It walks rather fast. They said.. the more you look at it the more strange it gets. ;D OK... I also have heard news from our new friend Wormopolus. He said he's still working on it... that he's created a couple of codes to make our banners work in our thread titles.. but he's not satisfited and wants to do something else to make it even easier to use... So he's still working on this for us. Then on another note... while looking around over at the place I found him on... I've never seen so many computer geeks in one place that place is so COOL! Well... I found something else he created all on his own that really blows me away.. not something you guys would see, but something for me to use on my tools that makes things so much easier... So by me seeing this, I"m seeing that this guy really knows his stuff. I'm glad to see that we have him helping us. But on the other hand... being over there... seeing all of that... all of those people at one place... it reminds me so much of my little brother and how much I miss him.

I found a few places really. Thanks. No.. he didn't move away... Me being the older sibling and due to the fact my father was in the military, we moved around a lot while growing up. At one place I met and married my hubby, who was also in the military at that point. Still, all I remember of my little brother was the fact that he was this 15 year old computer geek... Yes way back in the early 80's... he'd sit and type up codes from some magazine just to get a game to play on his pieced together compter from back then. He was always sitting there pecking away.. or playing games. I remember telling him computers were just a fad. That is ten years time there would be something else to take it's place then all that would be was just a memory. ;D Our lives both took different courses. Neither of us live in the place where my parents retired.. He is the closest to them just a couple hours away... where it would take me about 6 and a half to 7 hours. His life is filled with his work... and due to the fact I can't travel.. I really don't know the man my brother grew up to be.. He was off doing a stint in the military the years I could go see my mom, so even then... oh well. We do keep track with each other through our mom. He's doing something with computers and makes pretty good money. I'll bet he laughs thinking about my words so long ago. I know I do. but being on that site... seeing how all of these computer geeks (which I don't see as being a bad word.. but one to wear with pride) is making my thoughts turn to my brother.

Yeah... having them on the other side of the world is even harder... at least when I call to talk to my mom... we are on the same timeframe. I remember calling from germany where it would be night, they would be just waking up or in the middle of the day depending upon where they were stationed at the time.. then the expense back in those days to talk on the phone... no cells back then... Oh I'm am dating myself. I need to be quiet. ;D

;D Hey... there is nothing wrong with being our age... We are only as old as we feel... And I feel young at heart right now.
