I remember when I was young, the Italian Woman in my family would gather around a pregnant family member and hold a long string with a sewing needle at the end of it. If it went back and forth in front of the woman to give birth, she was to have a boy, if it went around in a circle she was to have a boy!

I've actually done that before my son was born. I don't recall if they were correct or not. Another one... they say the way the pregnant woman carries her child also is a dead give away as to it's gender. If the pregnant woman carries the baby high... or if she carries the baby low. That never was right for me. For most of my pregnancy with my son, I carried him more to my back. Although he was actually everywhere. I remember he once got under my ribcage and was tickling me from under my ribs. It's a funny story to tell but maybe for another day. ........................................................... OK... here is the one I came here to post tonight. I know, I might need some help if I don't get the details out correctly. they say if you eat something spicey or heavy on the stomach right before you go to bed that you will have nightmares... or was it crazy dreams? That has never happened to me. SO! Right now I'm going to put it to the test. I'm nearly finished with a bean and cheese burrito. Oh it's good. I say it's a superstition. So, let's see what I post tomorrow. I hope to start a new thread. A topic we once had enjoyed ages ago.... all about dreams. I just need to have one worthy to post.

I've heard that too but working evenings I often eat all kinds of stuff late at night and it never bothered me that way. Can't wait to see what happens with you Miss C!

Well, I know I did dream, but as soon as my alarm woke me up, my thoughts went exactly to why it went off... to get daughter up to go to school. I then tried to remember what I was dreaming about, but could not. All that burrito did is give me gas. Put it this way... every once in a while my son cracks up laughing at me. At least something good came of it besides getting rid if tummy growling for food last night.

Hey... here is one I had not thought of in some time.. Something called a worry stone. It's small and smoothe. Sometimes has a little indention on one side where you are supposed to rub it while you have your hands in your pocket. It's supposed to make your worries be better. then that reminds me of those tiny little indian dolls. you usually see them in gift shops. A tiny little family. They are supposed to have something about them... something about putting them under your pillow while you sleep. I dont know. If anyone knows what I'm trying to say.. please help me out. Wait.... they might be prayer dolls. Each represents a family member of yours. I don't know. They are very tiny with little clothes on. An american indian family. And it seems like I"m on a roll. LOL... Those little booby statues that a couple who want to have kids.. they think by putting this under the bed they will soon be parents. I keep thinking of trinkets.... OH I can't recall if it's been mentioned here before or not. Dream Catchers. Looks like a little roundish circle with a woven thread that resembles a spider's web. There normally are a few strings with a couple of beads and feathers at the end of the srings. They say if you hand this in your room at night, then it will capture your nightmares so that you won't get them. Or at least the version of the story I was told said this. This is supposed tohelp you sleep better at night.

Dream Catcher is a book by Stephen King and I remembre reading about them there. One I remember from my childhood-I don't think I posted it yet. We had a thing where if you were riding by a cemetary you had to hold your breath until you passed it or it was bad luck. It was kind of fun by there was one absolutely huge one and I remember we could never quite hold our breath long enough to get past it.

In the southwestern part of the United States it's common to find these. I even hang one in my kids room... The dream catchers that is.
My daughter did that with the cemetary that we used to live next to. Every time we would go anywhere I'd see her comment then hold her breath, then let it out once we've passed it. I wonder where that superstition comes from? Are they afraid that breathing will make it easier if someone is a ghost to crawl up your nostrils?

More superstitions...... I am currently watching Ghost Hunters International marathon. They are in Ireland. Well, they showed the team on their wait to a possible haunted castle, (which I will comment in a secon on on the DejaVu thread.) Well, they stopped on a bridge called Fairy Bridge. There were costume jewlry people would hang on the trees next to this bridge. The superstition is to do this and the fairies would grant you your wish. cool
