I don't think they call them "grinders" here at our subway shops. They ask us what kind of roll/bread we want... such as white, wheat or something like that. Maybe it's a regional thing? I think what I've heard of being called grinders are tiny little (biscuit sized) hamburgers... but then I might have interpreted the word incorrectly. x_xI do remember hoagies when I lived in New Jersey. It was the biggest sandwich I ever saw to that date... I was only six years old. ========= Inspired from Erin's update on her Harry Potter History thread... What if... Sirius Black was the only secret keeper for the Potters.... meaning, not wormtail at all? I sort of guess that this would have made some difference in only that the Potters would not have been found out so soon. However, since we know from the Prophecy, that Voldemort would most certainly find Harry by CHOICE... it would come to pass at some point in time.... question then, if wormtail never was the Potters secret keeper, then how much longer would Harry have had with his parents before that day/night happened?

Subway uses Sandwiches as their generic but the Subway Grinder was started right here where I am from and as some of you know, Duddahs prettier half works directly at the Attorney for Mr. Fred Deluca, the owner of Subway. Their headquarters is located on Bic Drive in Milford Ct, right next door to the Ice Box that Duddahs use to be the director at for many, many, many, many moons! Believe Duddahs, it was always Grinder but it has been eased up for the sake of people not knowing what to call them...
As a side, Mr. Deluca is very ill and our prayers go out to him and his family. I know Jenn has his back and is taking good care of his money and legal interest around the world. She is pretty busy lately having to do all of the negotiations without him but he has had her as his right wing for so many decades that she knows exactly what he would do in any particular situation.
Hoagies are New Jersey and parts of New York as you pointed out Miss Charlotte. Grinders are Philadelphia such as Philly Cheese-steak Grinders.
Rhode Island has Grinders or Subs... I know parts of Mass also use Subs and Grinders as their terms but they also use Clubs as in Club Rolls so everything is different but all with pretty much the same meaning.

Always called that type of sandwich a sub, myself...find it funny that SUBway calls anything a grinder! LOL I brought Aidan to one shortly before school started, and he got one of the kids' meals, which came in a little sack (Monster's Inc). He's been using it every day since, for his snack at school. It's very useful, and has held up really well! Erin

Hey guys.... I realized when I was out today that I mixed up my thoughts. I was calling a slider a grinder. Ugh. What if.... there were fast food resturants in the Harry Potter world. Can you imagine the Weasley's pulling up to a drive through window with their order?

Sliders can be pretty much anything on a small sized bun. I make B'B'Q pulled pork sliders in a crock pot that Duddahs friends love.

Funny, because the night I saw you had posted this, we had just had something like these that night. Manwich on Grands biscuits. They turned out pretty good. Normally, we have them on hamburger buns. I was just lazy and not wanting to get into the kitchen after a long day elsewhere.

What if..... Other generas of magical people were all connected with the Harry Potter story? I know a lot of fanfic writers have done this as well... but still, that would be cool to see happen... well, sometimes.

What if;
What if Harry, Ron and Hermione were able to turn themselves into Animagus. Do you believe their Animagi form would reflect their Patronus character traits?

I love this idea. I think Harry's would be the same for sure. I think Hermione would like to be a swan or some other beautiful bird because she's so self conscious about her looks. I can also see her as an owl because she's so smart. Ron I'm not sure but maybe a lovable, comical dog.

What if, at the end of POA, Sirius was proven innocent, and Harry went to live with him...thereby breaking the protection spell that lasts as long as he can call a place with his mother's blood, home?

Erin You know... I'm surprised that no one has ever brought up this particular conversation before... or maybe my memory is worse than I thought. LOL. I do believe the blood protection spell would have been broken. My first thoughts would be to say that I honestly believe that Dumbledore would have tried his hardest to talk Sirius into letting Harry stay with the Dursleys because of the blood protection spell... but then that is not what you bring up in your particular "what if"... SO... If Harry DID in fact move in with Sirius... I wonder if they could keep that secret from those not in the Order? I never thought about it before... but before Kreacher was sent away by sirus black, did any of the Deatheaters know where Sirius was staying? I don't think they cared, but still, DID they know? The reason I ask this would be if they would guess where Sirius would be living with Harry?... It all goes back to Kreacher telling the DE's right. This might put Harry in danger if they could find a way into the Black's home somehow. I love this.... you have my mind going on this. Thanks.

I've wondered about this too and I agree, I think DD would try to talk Sirius out of it. It seems like Harry would be in terrible danger if anyone found out. Would DD be able to talk Sirius into letting Harry stay with the Dursleys and giving Sirius some kind of job at Hogwarts so that he and Harry could spend some time together there? I loved the part where Harry and the Weasleys spent Christmas with Sirius and it made Sirius so happy.

I loved the part where Harry and the Weasleys spent Christmas with Sirius and it made Sirius so happy. I think that is the question... Would the Deatheaters be able to find Harry if say.... Sirius used Dumbledore as a Secret keeper wherever they chose to live? It worked for the headquarters for the longest. I love your idea about giving Sirius a job at Hogwarts. Can you imagine him being the next Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?... phooey, then that would mean the world would know where Sirius Black was. Still, he could do something else. That would be cool. This also would mean that Sirius would not be so lonely. He had great memories of being at Hogwarts too. I think he'd consider being there and getting to see Harry during the school year as close to being in heaven as he could get. ps. I also think he'd put that bottle of booze down too. This could have been something JKR added into the story... too bad.

What if Hagrid had actually been a GREAT teacher. Do you believe that he then might have been liked by Malfoy?

I'm not sure if it would make a difference with Malfoy because he had been raised to be prejudiced against "half breeds" and anyone who wasn't pure blood. I wonder if his attitudes changed any afer the last battle though?

I agree with Fangsfan on this one. Another thing to remember Lucius Malfoy might have known who Tom Riddle framed as the person who set the Basilisk (or mysterious Slythin monster) loose on the castle. I'm sure Luicius would have had bad things to say about him teaching his son no matter if he were a GREAT teacher or not. Then again, the question would be... did he know it was Hagrid, Tom framed?
