What if Luna and Neville had hooked up? That is something I really thought might happen, I think they would have made a good couple. Well.... This is something that might still be revealed on Pottermore. As the DH2 film added to their version of events, Neville and Luna might get together but does not mean they have to get married like so many of the other kids.

What If? What if Dumbledore did not have the foresight to bring Sybill Trelawney to live at the Hogwarts Castle? I know he did it to keep her safe... To keep Voldemort from finding her and getting the rest of the prophecy as well. SO? My question that I've had in my mind for ages sort of goes along with yours. What if Trelawney went back to where she came from? I mean, who knows where she lived before she asked for a job at Hogwarts. Maybe she would have lived at some obsure place. Wait! A clue to Snape's allegiance from the very beginning. I've missed it. Did Snape ever tell Voldemort who that was who made the Prophecy in the first place? Still.... I do think as resourceful as Voldemort was... and knowing how much he wanted to find out the prophecy's exact wording in book five... I still wonder why Voldemort never went after Trelawney if he DID know she was the one. It's not like he'd know that every time she makes a true prediction that she can't remember a thing. He would probably try to get it out of her mind somehow. But he never made a move. We do know that JKR said that the ONLY person to stay at the school year round was Filch. To me this means Trelawney had to have gone home every summer just like the rest of the staff. Why didn't Voldemort ever go after her then? OK... I have so many questions that goes along with yours. Duddah... I LOVE this. runs off to find something to eat for lunch.

What if.... Trelawney was right all along... She kept predicting student's deaths for years. We know that many students came back to the school to fight in the battle as well. Also, I DO think she predicted that the part of Voldemort that resided inside Harry was the true source that she drew on as being the one to die. She saw that part when she predicted that Harry would die.

I so agree with you Miss Charlotte. I believe Sybill Trelawney was one of the most misunderstood characters in the entire series.
She was truly gifted and it was her oddity, even amongst those who themselves were a bit odd that caused so much disdain towards her.
Dumbledore was a true believer of her and her talents and laid his reputation on the line for her too.

I know I had always kept my mind open as to the things she predicted.... but I don't recall Dumbledore saying he had faith in her words. I know he only gave her the position at the school because she was the one who made the prophecy about Voldemort... He needed to protect her some way and make sure Voldemort did not find her. I always wondered if he ever thought she really truly had a gift. I guess you are right... I knew that he thought more of what Voldemort would believe... if HE gave stock in the words she said, then that would mean he would make the prophecy come true. Still.... that is my delema.... DId Dumbledore really believe her or just worry if others would.... thus make it become something to be conserned with?

What If?
What if the Hogwarts Express broke down on its way to Hogwarts. Would the sorting hat still be able to do the sorting on a different date?

I don't see why not. It seemed to stick by it's comment to Harry that it still thought he would have done well in Slytherin. I know that is not exactly the same thing as doing a sorting.... still...
But you do have something there I never thought about. I mean how many times did Harry end up late, missing the sorting... what would have happened if he missed it the first year he was there for some reason?

You never met my white Mama duck Quackers. Oh she'd get your goose if she ever heard you say what you just did. No kidding, she had the personality of Donald Duck when she was angry which was most of the time. Oh and bossy as all get out. She put the GEESE in their place. Bossed our goats and TRIED to boss ME! That was not for long. Still, she had all of our chickens, the rest of the ducks (which were about 6 of those,} the four geese, the two goats and one of the two horses all walk behind her in our yard back when we had them. She took care of all of them and would not allow them to take a step out of line. Oh and protected them with a fierceness you have never seen. But of course she would have seen you sitting up there in the tree looking down at the lot and fussed at you still to get in line. Now that would have been something to see. ;D

Remember when Harry asked not to be in Slytherin? What is someone asked not to be in the house the Sorting Hat thought they were best suited for? Sorry if I may have asked that before, this is something I think about everytime I read the part about Harry's sorting.

Sorry if I may have asked that before, this is something I think about everytime I read the part about Harry's sorting. I believe that the sorting hat takes ones wishes into consideration but that is not the final outcome. It is up to the sorting hat ultimately to make the final decision with all things it see's in each students head as factors.

Yeah... I agree with Duddah on this one. It's like if I wanted so badly to be in Hufflepuff but knowing I don't have the talent to cook or knowing I don't have the talents that are part of her house... then being stuck in Gryffindor.. Yep... maybe I was brave enough to try to cook but still, nothing came out right. Yep... I guess my Harry Potter alter ego is Seamus. ;D Oh then there is herbology.. I happen to be very surprised when my plants don't die. Like right now... I have some of my daffodills in bloom. I have not stuck them in the ground yet from my move... but other plants I hoped would make it... I tended to them.. Well, they are half alive and now look so weird. I don't see that any Hufflepuff's plants would do like mine. My poor bamboo shoot died. Yeah... I think the Sorting Hat would have to see the talent there for to actually put the student in that house. (ps... You know, it never ceases to amaze me how many times I type up the word Hufflepuff and I repeatedly have to edit it because it naturally comes out for me as Hugglepuff. )

What if instead of going in for Quidditch like his father, Harry had decided to go in for Potions like his mother?

I believe that Harry would have had a very difficult time seeing through Potions under Severus Snape, only knowing what he knew at that time.
Quidditch was something that came to Harry Naturally, he was not exactly the best of students.

I"m not sure if someone's already said this before... But I wonder what would have been IF Petunia turned out to be a witch? To me, I could see her going both ways... trying to supress it.. but then it comes out all on it's own where she could not control it. BUt then I could see it that she would have been proud to go to Hogwarts along with her sister. Still, this would have changed everything... or would it have?
