My dog gets just exhausted by Christmas, he loves it but gets so excited he ends up konking out just like C.J. did. Andy got three squeakers this year: a big candy cane, a grunting yellow cat, and a Bumble(the Bumble Snowman from Rudolph). We dole them out once a day though, because he gets so excited and then axhausted.

Oh I love hearing about your pets on Christmas day. Those are some funny stories. Peppermint bark dreams. LOL! And a grunting yellow cat! LOL!
I went to purchase one of my cat's favorites. They've chewed up their little purple dog to where it's nearly unrecognizable. I was sad to see that the pet section was pretty much cleaned out before Christmas. However, I did find a pack of colored mice. They tend to like the orange colored one best of all. Anyway, after we opened all of our gifts and the paper was in the middle of the floor, our cats was playing hide and seek in it like both of you mentioned your magical creatures did. Then someone mentioned that it was sad that we didn't get our cats anything this year. I totally forgot about it. So... I got down on the floor with a pair of scisors to cut away the plastic that was holding them to the cardboard packaging. There was Baby. She was all excited to see and smell them. Then Loki noticed and was slowly inching her way to check them out too. Before I could get the last piece cut so I could start throwing them across the room, Baby, as if in slow motion, turned her head toward Loki. When Loki got too close Baby smacked her three or four times right between the ears on top of her head... of course claws retracted. Then after all was open and the mice were sent in every direction, what did Baby do? She picked up the package they were in and ran under the couch. Who cares about the mice when the package smells just as good? LOL.
Hubby accidentally tipped over our scratching pad's cat nip onto the carpet yesterday. Goofy Loki. Have you ever saw a cat TRY to rub the back of her head AND back onto the carpet while trying to crawl? Sometimes I can't help but wonder if that cat's brain is in her head upside down. She reminds me a lot of a parrot as often as she turns her head upside down to view the world... this time it's to cover herself with cat nip. Yep, she can do the shimmy on her back alright.

OK... This is just entirely TOO crazy to not post here. Remember my skinny black cat Loki? I'm so glad I had a witness to something we saw her do. If not I don't think anyone could believe it. Have you ever seen a single cat walk frontwards and backwards at the same time? No kidding! She was backing out of my son's room into the hallway when she decided to do a U-turn and turn around then go forward at the same time. I turned to my hubby and asked him if I saw what I think I did. Both of our jaws were dropped. It was the freakiest thing I ever saw. It reminded me of a cartoon character. Perhaps there really IS magic in some cats.

This weekend started out so beautiful. The sun was bright yesterday morning. It felt so good to feel it on my face through the living room window. I planned to post and read some of JKR's new book, then post..... back and forth. However, I did get going on this plan for one round.
Have you ever heard of a person grounding their cat before? Well, I did it just this weekend.
Close to noon, we noticed our cat Baby, the one who loves to play in the water, was missing. We looked everywhere. All in the house and closets etc. Up and down the road. Around the block. Under the back porch and shed. Nothing. We talked to neighbors and even took a trip to our area's Animal shelter. Nothing. The last two times this has ever happened in my life, we never recovered our cats. So for our house, many tears were shed on Saturday. Turned out, at two in the morning, she comes scratching on my bedroom door that leads out side. There she be as though nothing was wrong. Our cats are all inside cats. None are allowed outside for a reason.
So.... goes to show she's grounded. No more allowing her to walk around the front lawn while we are out there to keep watch over her. She never ran off before while we were out there... This time she snuck out when we were not looking. I guess it's all our fault in the end.

Oh goodness. No worries on that front. As soon as our pets are old enough they make that trip to the vet immediately. If I want another kitten, I'd much rather rescue one from the pound. whew! And yes... we are sooooo glad to have her back too.

Glad she's back Miss C. My cat Duke is indoor but sneaks out from time to time-but usually we either catch him right off or he's not gone that long. We did used to have a little black cat that was supposed to stay in at night and would sneak out and stay out all night hunting sometimes. It's very nervewracking when you don't know where they are.

Wow.... we were in tears off and on all day and through the night until she showed up. She still tries to get out. At least next time, if she does, we can hold out for hope that she might come back. What I worry about most..... stray dogs and cars. Back when we used to live out in the country, I witnessed a Chicken Hawk swoop down and try to carry off with one of our huge chickens. We think that might have been what happened to our old cat Boots. It's just a wild place here. However, I am glad to hear that your Duke comes back rather soon.

Weird cat. It must have been Loki who ate my food list. I found bits and pieces of it on my living room floor. Thank goodness I was already finished with it.

;D It's funny, you think of dogs being the ones to get into things they think of and eat them but cats do it too! My took will chew on cardboard boxes and newspaper. He loves to eat plants the most, I have to watch him carefully. I got some flowers for Valentine's from my Aunt in CT, every time I turned my back he was up on the table after them. He knows he's not supposed to be on the table but it was just too tempting!

;D Yep... cat and dogs seem to have that in common. My daughter brought me a flower she had picked. I have a special tiny vase I keep in the kitchen window. Loki had to have found it. Every time I looked some place..... like on the floor in several different rooms... or over next the the water dish... etc. There it was.... just a bit more chewed up than before. And here I just put it back in the window what felt like half an hour before. Now how did she seem me put it back when she was not around? Which reminds me... I just repotted my spider plant into a larger pot. I need to go get it from outside. It's going to be too cold for it to stay outside. Tootles!

Oh I know how that is, my cat loooves spider plants and all plants. I have to watch him closely because they make him vomit sometimes, I've seen him vomit and then go right back to eating plants, it doesn't bother him a bit.

You know those Chia Pet thingys? Well, they have something new for cats. It's called Cat Grass. We bought one a while back. It's a small planter. Ours looks like a ceramic gray cat sleeping on the edge of a yellow pot. The cat's leg and tail hang down. Anyway, it comes with a pouch of special dirt and a pack of cat grass seeds. It's really a blend of wheat grasses which help with a cats digestion. I figured with Baby escaping as much as she does just to eat the grass in the front yard, that she would eat the whole pot's worth. I was wrong. All three cats will bite off the top part and that is all. It grows fast too. I think it's cool.

I did get my Dukie one of those too and he loved it, but it also made him vomit! I guess plants just don't agree with him. He just had his yearly checkup though and had a great report, the vet said he only looks about four and he's eleven this August.

I think it's funny how our pets can learn from each other. I know I've mentioned here before how Mattiecat likes to wake me up at about 5:30 am so I can go feed her. Sometimes, she'll even gently pat my cheek as she meows. I have to keep telling her it's not time. Still, she likes to stand on my shoulder and meow in my face. Also, to dig at the covers to try to get me to get up. Even to go so far as to get onto my night stand and find my glasses to knock them on the floor. If that does not work, she'll start knocking other stuff from there off as she meows in frustration. Thank goodness this last one is occasionally. Well, Appearantly, Loki cat has been watching her. This week she's started picking up where Mattie leaves off. She'll wait until Mattie finally gives up and sits on the floor beside my bed staring at me as I turn over and sleep some more. NOW, this is when Loki will find and pat the bottom of my feet. x_xShe's a very light cat and so I hardly know she's there. She will also stand on my shoulder and meow. Not to mention, I think it's strange to be woken up petting her. She likes to forcefully shove her face into the palm of my hand. This is nuts. I have a gift mug sitting on a nearby fancy table that is on the other side of my night stand. It has hard candies that are wrapped in crinkly shiny wrappers. Loki likes to empty the mug and take off with the candies. I find them under the door to my closet door and all over the floor on my side of the bed. I don't eat these candies... I just leave them there for her to play with. This is so goofy. Still, Mattie and Loki are not really friends. They tollerate each other well enough and know not to cross over into each other's space. This is also another reason I think it's funny how Loki has been watching Mattie and learning what she is up to. LOL. Yep.... our magical creatures are so goofy sometimes.

Right now it's a little over half past midnight. I heard the door close around midnight. I asked my daughter why she was outside. She told me that she was looking for toad. We too have had the same toad hanging around our front porch for several years now. Lately, it's not making it's daily routine trips up our walk. But then later we'd find it. I just thought about this thread and your last comment when I heard my daughter's comment. Still, I think it's cool about the babies. Sounds so sweet. We have these light brown colored corn beetles that bounce off our porchlight, that draw our toad out for a feast.

Last night, I played Madam Pomfrey to my son all night long. We are worn out to say the least. Son's resting fine. That is the important thing.
The reason I am posting this here on this thread, is my amazing cat/kneazle Mattie. Well, all three really. I'm one of these people who believe that our pets can often tell when something is about to happen. It had me worried that I had all three of them in there with me while I tended to my son. Normally, Baby sleeps on her own in the end bedroom. She kept walking around on AJ's bed and watching me with a strangeness that made me nervous. So, unlike her to even get up on his bed at all. Then when I was on my knees next to my son's bed, there was Loki. She normally spends the night sleeping on/next to my feet while I'm in my own bed. She curled up against my feet even in the position I was. I thought it odd that she just didn't go in there and wait for me... or go hang around on my back screened in porch, watching for insects or critters wandering through the yard.
But this post is about Mattiecat. Trying to keep myself awake, I was up posting or reading and doing research for things I want to write about. She normally plops down snuggling into my chest while I hold onto her like a little girl holding her babydoll while laying on her side. Well, she came into my son's room last night about 2am. I was sitting on AJ's bed with his hospital table-tray in front of me typing on my laptop. She walked up AJ's legs then onto the tray and planted her rear end directly in front of my computer screen, giving me her full back. She did not even so much as turn her head to look back at me, but instead looked straight at the screen. No pausing... just simply walked in and sat down. Yep... she was telling me that it was time for bed. She'd had already been in there tending to my hubby for hours, making sure he was tucked in and sleeping tight. How weird is that?
