Have you guys seen The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising ? It was on cable a few months ago...I came in partway through and it looked good, but I never found it again...the parts I saw looked really good! Has nothing to do with Quidditch, by the way! Erin

I thought we actually rented it... I really liked it. I hope they do a sequal.
It sort of reminded me of another one... "The Jumper," but where the jumper stayed in the same time and could jump from location to location with a mere thought... "The seeker" when through time. It's been a while since theone time I watched "The Seeker."
The Seeker seemed more magical, where the Jumper was more scifi.

I'm behind on my movies. I haven't seen The Seeker but I did read the Dark is Rising years ago and just went crazy over that series. So I'd probably like the movie. One of my favorite movies is the first Narnia movie-I haven't yet seen the second one. I have the DVD of Narnia and it's become a tradition at Christmas. During one day of my Christmas baking I always have that on while I work.

Ah...another Narnia movie! It'll probably be the last one with the Pevensie kids in it. It seems like those are the ony ones they're making.
When I was little, I liked the movies Neverending Story, and Labyrinth. Anyone else remember them?

OH yeah David Bowie! I remember. As for the Narnia movies.. I've never read the books and only saw the first movie once... maybe twice. (and we purchased it.) I like that guy who plays... Is it the Fawn? He's not a centaur is he? I wish he'd come out with other movies.

Yes I liked him too, Mr Tumnus or something like that. I think I remember Labyrinth and Neverending Story was a book I just loved but I haven't seen the movie. One I love is the Princess Bride. That's on tv a lot and I always have to stop and watch.

Oh yes, Princess Bride is a favorite in this house, too....
"Stop rhyming and I mean it!" "Anybody want a peanut?"
Always makes me laugh!

ooo, i loved neverending story!! i saw it on tv about 5 years ago for the first time and really enjoyed it. labyrinth, i only saw a part of it.
mr tumnus was indeed a faun, not a centaur. he was part goat, part man.
narnia, i have both movies and have the box set of books. i found them at a used book shop and in mint condition!! i got a very good price, too!

I do hope they make SOME of the other Narnia movies. I can understand them sticking to the Pevensie family ones...because if they do them in order, it would be several years before the next one with them came out, and the actors would be too old.

I wondered about that too from back when I saw the first Narnia. Some of the kids seemed older than I pictured and I felt like those actors would be way too old by the last movie. Although it seems like some of the books actually only had the two youngest Pevensie's now that I think of it.

you both are right...they ARE waiting far too long and they may have to replace those actors!
was it narnia or spiderwick chronicles they have decided to drop? i read somewhere that disney decided not to film any more of the series. don't ask me why, they aren't very clever, making that decision.

OK so tell me... We know that JKR was probably the first famous author to make her book series have the kids grow older as the series progresses... Is it that way with Narnia? Or are they always the same age but just going through different adventures?

Well, only 3 of the books have the Pevensie children, and yes, they do progress in age from one book to the next (of the ones they are in). They age within each as well, but when they come back from Narnia, they are the same age they were when they left...
The other books, are with other people...I think some are related to the Pevensies. In the very first book, the boy who goes into Narnia turns out to be the great-uncle (I think that's how he's related) who owns the house the children move to, to escape the war. The 3rd one has nothing to do with the Pevensies. The Narnie that is visited in each of the books is a different Narnia in terms of time, and not necessarily chronological.
If you haven't read the series, they are definitely worth it. They are for children, but a fun read all the same. There is a definite christian lean in them, as well. I also have the set. I had read my friend's set when I was young, and when I saw this set, I couldn't resist! I am reading them to my 9 year old right now. We are on "A Horse and his Boy."

So here I thought there were only about three or four books meaning only three or four movies could be made from them. I see there are more. Another one of my friends just LOVES that series.. and she also loves HP.

We haven't mentioned The Wizard of Oz yet, one of the all time greats. I think I've mentioned before how as kids, we looked forward to this every year. We didn't had a color tv so we would go down to my Aunt's to watch so we could see the color parts. I was always dreading the first appearance of that witch-she was so scary to me. And I always wondered how the author came up with the idea that water would be the thing that killed her-it seemed like being splashed with water would be a hard thing to avoid, a wonder it hadn't happened by accident before.
