Close Encounters is one of my favorite movies in any genre!
This is so weird-I was lying in bed this AM wondering if anyone would make movies out of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series-we have talked a little about these on the book thread. Then I get up to read the paper and there's an article saying that Ron Howard is probably going to do just that-sounds like it will be a trilogy.

Stephen King books usually make good or great movies. I am not into horror, so I don't read King, and I only watch his movies as they come on the television.

Duddahs, I bought a copy of Wolfman several weeks ago and absolutely hated it. I usually am a fan of werewolf movies, but this one I cold not stand because it was too much like the older werewolf movies.

Wow.... that was the whole reason I liked it. I prefer the older version of the werewolf. Like the black and white movies... It's not really like the way they showed Lupin in the movie when he transformed... but it was not a complete transformation into a wolf, but something in between. OH and another reason that it resembled the old version... The same guy who did the special effects for American Werewolf in London did this film as well.
Another thing this film had going for it.... well from my point of view... I happen to be a fan of Anthony Hopkins. But what I liked best.... the mystery. This film had a twist to it, but they don't really let the viewer in on it until quite late in the film... I had a suspicion and wondered early on if something was up... that things were not exactly as they seemed... sure enough, my idea was validated even though, I didn't expect for it to actually happen.. mine was a passing thought that kept growing as the film progressed. I love those kinds of mysteries more than the visual effects.

Actually, a lot of his books are more suspence and weird than scary. His first books were definitley more scare/gore...but later on they get quite good. The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemtion are among my favorites. Erin

I really like the older werewolf movies, but they have already been done, and if I want to watch them I can always fond one and watch it. I felt after the movie that I did not learn one thing about the werewolf experience or story that I already did not know. For example the Underworld movie series illustrating the war between Vampires and Werewolves was interesting to me.

Erin some of the king movies were bad, too...like tommyknockers, that was horrible LOL...but yes, shawshank redemption and the green mile turned out to be very good movies!! not to mention the shining! jack nicholson and the kid who played danny 'doc' were brilliant! it and the stand were good, too...not as good as the above, but good!! i'm a huge stephen king fan. i hope they make 'insomnia' into a movie! also the talisman, 2 of my fave king books

does anyone remember the Lemony snicket movie? I saw that one on dvd last year, and read the book. WEIRD movie. But it was very good. they aired it in between harry potter movies. The Pagemaster is another one. Of course there's Eragon, those were my FAVORITE dragon movies. I also read all three books in the series. then there's the MUMMY fantasy movies....
Tangled is a disney movie that is loosely based on the Rapunzel tale. This one was a twist. This girl Rapunzel had MAGIC hair, and her captor stole her away from her real parents, the king and queen, because the witch used the child's hair, to kepp herself looking young and beautiful. I liked it.

Had a blast from the past watching Mary Poppins on the Family Channel this weekend. Those books were my favorites growing up and I had the movie soundtrack and played it over and over. But never got to see the movie til I was an adult.

A different kind of fantasy movie, but one of my favorites is Inception. Really well put together movie. My favorite part is the waking sequence, and I love the music. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Leonardo DiCaprio earned my respect in this one.

Fangs fan.... Mary Poppins.... I was singing along with that one the other day when it was on... as well as I was singing along with the Sound of Music.
Erin.... Inception sounds very familiar to me. Was that the film where the town folded up on it's self. It was a very interesting film... never seen one like it. Cool.
I"m watching one of my all time favorites right now. I've always been a superhero fan. Yep, ever since I was a kid. Superman was on this morning. Now I'm watching the first Xmen movies. Really, I love this whole series. I just can't make up my mind if I like Sabertooth best in this film or in the Wolverine film. I guess I like him in both. So cool.
