Yes, it is in fact a Hippogriff or as you say, Buckbeak who happens to be a Hippogriff. Congratulations Miss Charlotte.

If you remember, Hippogriffs have the rear of a horse and the front of an Eagle.

If you do not show them respect, they will attack you! So you must LISTEN to what Hagrid said about bowing down and waiting until they return the bow or they will attack and might well rip your ear or something else off... It just happens that Ear Rhymed and worked perfectly.. You seem to have taken that body part a bit too heart in light of the rest of the riddle..
