In January 1995, Harry's 4th year, he takes his egg for a bath, on Cedric's advice, and hears the song. Moaning Myrtle helps him see that it is mermaids singing it, and that he will need to go the Black Lake.
Later, the Marauder's map shows Barty Crouch to be in Snape's office. As he investigates, he gets trapped on the stairs, under his invisibility cloak. Moody, who can see Harry, covers for him, and guides Snape and Filch away from the stairs, so that Harry doesn't get into trouble.
Harry writes to Sirius about these events.

WOW!
That sure was one busy day in the world of Harry Potter.
How is it that Harry Potter's head did not explode with all that going on?

Agh! A few last-minute additions...I'll get better with this now that I've had one month under my belt!
January 1996 - 5th year - The trio learn that Broderick Bode, one of the patients they saw in St. Mungo's was strangled by Devil's Snare...and that they had seen that very plant being delivered to him.
Harry has a strange surge of happiness making him realize something Voldemort wanted has happened.
January 1997 - 6th year - The sign-up for apparition lessons appears, and the trio signs on...though Harry cannot take the test this school year...but Hermione and Ron can.
Looking forward to bringing you more in February!

Feb. 1, 1993 - 2nd year - Hermione finally leaves the hospital wing, minus her cat fur and tail.
Feb 1, 1997 - 6th year. A Saturday...First Apparition lesson with Wilkie Twycross. Harry eavesdrops on Draco talking to Crabbe, saying he didn't know how long it would take...it's not your business what it is...just keep on being a lookout. They also learn firsthand what "splinching" is. Harry begins keeping an eye on Malfoy on the Marauder's map.

This was a very cool date. Something they got to experience for the first time together... Something only accomplished older wizards are allowed to do. Then they find out just how dangerous and thrilling it is. It's as though, it's a right of passage... akin to driving a car and getting their drivers permit.

Yes I agree a very cool date. I can't make up my mind about apparating-it would be so handy to do but scary too. January 29 is one of my favorites too, I absolutely love that scene in the Prefect bathroom

In the beginning of February, 1994 - Harry's 3rd year, Lupin tells Harry about a Dementor's kiss - that they suck out your soul.
On a happier note, Harry finally gets back the Firebolt, which had been sent anonymously, and which had been confiscated to examine it for any curses. Harry forgives Hermione for alerting Prof. McGonagall about it when he received it on Christmas. As Ron brings the Firebolt back to the dorm for Harry, he discovers blood on his sheets, with orange cat hairs nearby, and Scabbers is missing...he blames Crookshanks, and is furious at Hermione for allowing her cat to run loose.

All very important events for Harry's future. This is a great thread Erin, you are a much better History teacher than Professor Binns!!

Also, in February of their third year, Sirius Black rips Ron's bed curtains trying to get to Scabbers, but Ron wakes up and sees him, and Sirius escapes. Neville Longbottom is blamed for leaving the list of passwords out to be found...which is how Sirius was able to get in to Gryffindor tower.

I didn't realize it took two months of testing to finally give the Firebolt the thumbs up. I remember when I first read that part that I didn't think he was going to get it back at all.
Oh and Sirus Black... I loved that scene.. nice and scary. Then to our shock he was a nice guy the whole time. Why didn't he just come out and tell them about Peter right there and then?

February 14: 1993, The trio's 2nd year, Valentine's Day - Prof. Lockhart takes it upon himself to whip up a celebration making the great hall ooze with "love." Harry receives a singing valentine, which was apparently from Ginny....being tackled in the process of trying to escape "Cupid."
That night, Harry learns how to work Riddle's diary and travels into his memory, where he sees a young Hagrid apparently releasing the monster responsible for killing (Moaning) Myrtle, and living in the chamber of secrets.
1996 - February 14, their 5th year - Harry goes to Hogsmeade with Cho Chang, which turns into a complete fiasco. Later, he meets with Hermione and Luna, and gives Rita Skeeter the interview about what happened in the graveyard at the Tri-Wizard Tournament...to be published in The Quibbler.

YOu know... that reminds me, i've been meaning to see if there were any images of Harry and Cho at the tea shop somewhere.
You starting this thread caused me to remember big plans I had to add to this site a couple of years ago. A skin for each month. I think this would be fun. Thanks again for reminding me of things that took place during these particular time frames. You are giving me so much to think about.

This may sound a bit bizarre but the whole Harry and Cho in Madame Puddifoots has always been one of my favorite parts of the entire Harry Potter series.
Yep Bizarre big time..
I think the whole idea of a type of Tea House/B &B are very close to my heart...
Somewhere deep down inside of Duddahs, there has always been the sneaking thought of owning a B & B in Newport...
What holds Ole Duddahs back is the fact that he will not clean others rooms, cook every meal for guests and above all, he will NOT clean up the living room after others have enjoyed themselves without Duddahs..
It is fine if Duddahs is part of the party but if he is to be the slave... NOPE! Never gonna happen!
About 20 years or so ago, Duddahs and his dad and step brother came oh so close to buying this wonderful Hotel in Newport RI. The price was right, the place was great but then Duddahs mom sat him down and pointed out how he would become a scullery maid...
One good Martini and a great Dinner out cleared Duddahs head of that thought for good.
Thank heavens for common sense and MOMS!

Psst.... Duddah... Madam Puddifoot's is only a tea shop... I don't recall it being a bed and breakfast in JKR's books. Hmmm? or maybe I need to go back and reread that book again? I could be remembering wrongly. If I am wrong... just shoot some meatballs at me and I promise not to duck.

I believe Madam Puddifoots was actually a likened to a U.S. Tea Room, not a U.S. Tea Shop. In Great Britain a Tea Shop is akin to the American version of a Tea Room..
A U.S. Tea Shop would be a place like a purveyor who sells Tea's we have one called Penny Hai Penny in Wilton even though they do serve a few English tidbits for luncheon.
A U.S. Tea Room is a place where Tea is served. High Tea and Low Tea.. The finger sandwiches, the small pastries etc and is normally a full service restaurant of sorts with fine Victorian Decor and often they can be found associated with Bed and Breakfasts too. These are what you normally find in Great Britain and called a Tea Shop there.
We have a wonderful Tea Room where my parents live. It is called the White Lilac Tea Room and I have taken my mother along with my sisters, brother and Dad there on several Mother's Days..
They serve a stunning High Tea Brunch. Complete with custom made Crepe' Omelet, Caviar/Blini, Mimosa etc..... She loves the relaxed yet semi formal feel.
My Dad would be just as happy to pull up at Orems Diner and have meat loaf.
My mother on the other hand truly dislikes eating like that. She enjoys being well dressed, pampered and able to relax and just enjoy good food. She hates food that hangs over the plate. She would prefer a small portion of OUTSTANDING food to a large portion of adequate food. She is small, somewhat like you Miss Charlotte. If she stands 5 feet tall and weighs anywhere near 100 pounds I would be shocked.
My Aunt Helen who was her closest sister passed a few years ago. She never stood more than 4'10 and when she passed she was a mere 4'4" tall. They are small Irish stock but they sure can handle their liquor!
