The streams of the argumentative manner that often ruffled seamlessly through the Snape household were as wild as ever one foggy August morning. Severus rolled over and pulled his deflated pillow over his ears to drown out his mother’s shrill voice over his father’s booming one. After a few minutes of unsuccessfully trying to stay asleep he had groggily stepped out of bed and picked up some clothes from the pitted floor, swept his fringe over his eyes and slowly climbed out of his bedroom window down the rusted drain pipe and landed with a soft thud round the back of his home. He stretched awkwardly revealing the shirt that was too small for him. He stared out onto the field which was on the corner of his home where the fair haired Lily was waiting. As he raised his hand in greeting his mother’s voice rang through his ears.
“Severus, get down these stairs now we’re leaving!”
He sighed and proceeded towards the front of his home jumping over a patch of fallen roses and grasping the door handle and with a much force he managed to open it, when he did he found his mother stood with her multiple bags filled to the topmost brim and her wand held tightly intertwined in her fingers in the dampened hallway. She winced as the door knocked against her arm and Severus jumped at his mother’s vulnerability.
“I’ve packed your stuff here grab this” She said shoving a bag of clothes into his chest winding him.
“We can’t just leave” He told her once he had regained the slightest control over his breathing.
“You are a child and your father is a pig, so I am the boss and what I say goes, now do as I say” She said fumbling with her bags.
“I am not a child” Shouted Severus who ran back out the front door slamming it on his mother’s hand when she had made a grab for him.
As he heard the door slam back open Severus made a dive over the deceased flower bed and rolled back into an upright position as his father came towards him.
“You can’t just speak to your mother like that and get away with it” He said with not with a rough tone as expected but with a soft voice, clearly their departure was upsetting him.
However Severus didn’t care and once out of his father’s sight he shoved his hands in his pockets and kicked his feet across the field until he came face to face with the impatient Lily. Before he could explain himself for his late arrival she held her hand up to silence him and when he looked at her he knew that she could have already guessed. As he walked around her she pointed at the tag sticking out of his t-shirt revealing that it was in fact inside out. As much as he would have preferred to have got dressed properly it was embarrassing that he had in fact not done so, so with this embarrassment he buried his head and moved quickly behind a huge apple tree and rearranged his clothing re-appearing with a slight red tone moving in on his usual pale face. Lily would have giggled if it had been anyone else but with Severus it was different and he was glad that he was different to the other people Lily surrounded herself by so that he could keep his dignity even if it did mean he had a terrible home life.
“Not long now Sev, only three days left before we go back to Hogwarts”
“Yeah I suppose…”
“Aren’t you excited Sev?” She asked with raised eyebrows.
“Oh I don’t know, it’s just the same thing every year” He said lying backwards on the field in a patch of daisies.
“At least you’ll be able to get away from your hectic life and I don’t how you can say that, this is O.W.L year Sev, this year is going to be great” She said playfully hitting him on the arm.
Severus smiled at how excited Lily got over exams and hard work and this made her practically beam. Her red hair radiated in the light and Severus found himself shielding himself for two reasons. The first being that his own hair looked un-washed in such revealing light and Lily’s was positively blinding.
When the sun appeared to be setting Lily was beckoned home by her older sister so she bade Severus goodbye while he walked back towards his home welcoming the punishment that awaited him for his actions earlier that day. He just thought of Lily and how he got to spend yet another year at school with her, even if it did mean he had enemies.

September the first couldn’t come sooner in Severus’ opinion. It was August thirty first and he was sitting alone in his room on his pull out bed, again covering his ears. When the noises were muffled enough, he placed one ear on his shoulder with the pillow between. Once he did this he bent down to pick up a quill from a heap of books propped on the floor and scratched out the date on his calendar for the clock had announced midnight. He was going back to Hogwarts very soon. He removed the pillow and let down his guard and sure enough the only sounds that echoed now were the sounds of snoring parents. He pulled his calendar of his wall and placed it on his desk, he was not taking it with him fore he did not need a reminder that he was surely return home. He groggily retreated back to his bed and let sleep take its course.
As the clock had announced midnight it surely announced dawn like Severus had planned. He sprung out of bed stepping on a rotten apple core. He brushed his foot with his hand and proceeded to his parents’ bedroom. He slowly pushed the door open and looked at his mother and father and decided it was best to tackle his father at such an early time. He stepped around the four poster bed that his father had poorly built and stepped close to his father and prodded him awake.
As he did so Tobias Snape did a series of fake television karate moves in the air, good but not good enough to defend himself from a wizard. As his eyes opened for a few seconds he stared at Severus.
“What now boy?” He said ending with a huge yawn that sounded like a cry. He closed his eyes again with no signs of opening his eyes again.
“I need a lift… you know to Kings Cross” He said dodging a few impeccable karate moves from his half asleep father. His father lifted up one eye and directed it at the clock.
“Not at this time in the morning you don’t and oh…” He smirked. “Get back to bed; you’ve still got a day to go yet.”
Severus wilding blinked and sure enough in the corner of his father’s muggle alarm clock it stated that only today was it August the thirty first.
As Severus began to slump out of the room, he heard his mother speak to him.
“Severus dear, Lily came by last night but I told her you were asleep, I didn’t want you going out that late”
That was who he wanted to see, Lily. He slowly went back to his room and laid his trunk back on the floor, so that it wasn’t propped up against the window. He was sure his mother would have objections about the earliness of his departure from his home but he didn’t care to stay in his room much longer. So he climbed once again down the drain pipe, this time leaving with souvenirs of rusting material. He kicked his feet like he usually did to the spot where he and Lily meet up, and have done every morning since their first summer together as friends.
He found a fairly moist piece of ground and parked himself there; Lily would be there in less than an hour and he had time to mould his shape into the grass.
The hour passed by pretty fast for Severus because of his occasional naps that took place against his will. He had opened his eyes and saw Lily bounce along with her sister. Severus groaned loudly, he hated Petunia.
“What is she doing here?” He snarled.
“My parents told me to come with her if you must know, but I might ask what a person like you with your stupid abnormalities was doing here too.” She retorted folding her arms.
“Shut up Tuney” Lily said, the colour in her cheeks matching her hair.
“Oh yeah… well you didn’t think we had abnormalities before”
“Yes I did you f.reak.”
“Severus please… leave her alone”
“Has she forgotten her pleas to Dumbledore already?”
In those few simple word Petunia ran of crying back to her home behind the field.
“You are a cruel pig, Severus Snape”
“No, Lily I didn’t mean to upset her”
“Don’t lie to me Snape shall I call you, all your other friends do, at least your nice to them” She told him before following after her sister.
Severus once again was left miserable and confused just like he was the first time he had hurt Petunia, although that time was Physical.
