I have started this thread in a few other places...and it's always fun. You can create a riddle for others to solve, and then they can post one as well.
For the first one, instead of making it up, I'm going to post a current puzzle from the Leaky Cauldron website. It is for a contest, and you have to figure out what is being talked about, and where...it's called the Pensieve diving contest, and you are looking at a cryptic memory. Since I am trying (unsuccessfully at the moment) to answer this...and others may be as well, let's not post any answers to this until next Monday, after the deadline for this answer has passed...and then we can post the new one next week. That way, we all get a chance to figure it out, and send in our answer for a chance to win!
Here is the current one:
Memory #1
You are looking at an object that after being snatched from between these blades spurred a battle of nerves. The battle over this object (and over the blades) helped promote our hero rather than humiliate him as intended. It was brought by owl and taken by an enemy (twice) who released it (twice). Its owner has a core of evil and yet is a hero as well. If yours is white sit tight, but red is meant for jogging.
Where are you and what are you looking at?

This is going to be painful not being able to guess until Monday.

LOL Well, you can guess over on Leaky before then! I just want to try to figure it out myself. I've thought of a few things, but I can't make them work all the way through....

Wow, it's very tricky. I totally agree with you Erin, everything I guess doesn't fit all the way!

I forgot to say that the memories in the pensieve are Harry's...so it will be something he was present for in the books. I am no closer to figuring it out than I was when I first posted...and entries for this one are due tonight, and a new one comes out tomorrow... If you don't mind, I'm going to put my thinking so far on here...I really don't think it will be helpful to anyone, but if you don't want to peek....welll....don't! LOL . . . . . . . . .. . . OK....here it is: You are looking at an object that after being snatched from between these blades spurred a battle of nerves. I have no idea on this one...I'm thinking they may not mean actual "blades".... The battle over this object (and over the blades) helped promote our hero rather than humiliate him as intended. hmmm..."our hero" may or may not be Harry...it could be DD or Hagrid...or several others... It was brought by owl and taken by an enemy (twice) who released it (twice). The "Twice" used twice...makes me think that perhaps this is a memory that occured during POA, during the time-turner sequence...so it happened before, and it is happening again... Its owner has a core of evil and yet is a hero as well. Snape? Mad-Eye aka Barty Jr. in GOF? If yours is white sit tight, but red is meant for jogging.hmmm...regular letter, vs. howler? Where are you and what are you looking at? I have no idea?! Erin

Here is what I thought as soon as I read this particular riddle. Let us see how close I am when the correct ID has been revealed.
You are looking at an object that after being snatched from between these blades spurred a battle of nerves.
In the Movie Sorcerers Stone, you first see the group of First years through the Crossed Swords of a Statue on a precipice. Then you see once again the Remembrall being thrown THROUGH those same crossed swords....
The battle over this object (and over the blades) helped promote our hero rather than humiliate him as intended.
Our Hero being Harry, did fight an Air Battle with Draco Malfoy after he stole the Remebrall and threw it towards Professor McGonagalls window at which time she noted Harry's flying skills and promoted him to become the youngest seeker in a century..
It was brought by owl and taken by an enemy (twice) who released it (twice).
The Remembrall was indeed brought to him via OWL while the Gryffindors were in the Great Hall and Draco Malfoy did steal the Remembrall Twice and released it twice. Once hidden and once thrown.
Its owner has a core of evil and yet is a hero as well.
At his core, Neville Longbottom is in fact a Pure Blood. The blood of the Malfoys, the Blacks and many other Mud Blood hating families of Purebloods runs through his veins. Alas, Neville is truly a Hero and proves his worth not only during the school year of Deathly Hallows but by defeating the actual Seventh Horcrux Nagini having materialized the Sword of Gryffindor from the burning Sorting Hat.
If yours is white sit tight, but red is meant for jogging.
When your memory needs jogging, the Remembrall turns RED when you have not forgotten anything it is a Milky White/Clear inside.

Well, that's cetainly better than anything I thought of!!! Leaky usually goes by the books rather than the movies...which still leaves the question of the "blades"...but I can't come up with anything else...and everything else fits so well...that MUST be it!
Enter it into the contest, Duddahs!
Leaky says "e-mail your answers to contests@the-leaky-cauldron.org with "Memory 1 Answer" in the subject line BEFORE the next memory is posted on Monday the 8th of November at 12:01am EDT.
Please also remember to include a name for tracking and announcement purposes (if you should win the wand). You may use your Lounge name, your real name, or whatever you want to be called."

You were right, Duddahs! did you enter it in?
Here's the next one...I haven't had a chance to think about this one yet...
Memory #2
This private location was positively crowded compared to its normal traffic. Of the people that were seen here only a couple are present, caught up in events they shared a sinister history and sought a way out. In a flash their ride arrived operating with blinding agility, a real assault on the senses. The chronicle ends with this item intact, bravely preserved with the help of a loyal friend.
Where are you and what is the item?

BAD ME! But YEAH ME!
HMMMM! I like this new one and have two ideas to work on right away.

I haven't had much time to think about this one. Private place? hmmm...privet dr? Burrow? would an office at Hogwarts be considred private?
a flashy ride? Knight bus? Does it go to private places? Sirius' motorbike? maybe...
I hope I can put some time into this one today. I was way off on the other one...hope I'm a little closer this time!

Here is the current one: I guess I'm a bit tired because I cant seem to get a handle on how you are running this thread.... No problem... I'm usually late to the party anyway... So.. I see first off that you are reposting riddles from the Leaky here. I got that part. LOL... But then once you post them, we are not supposed to do anything with them until the following week? No guesses until they have it already solved over there? I did read the rest of the posts but see you are trying to guess at them.. I guess i'm confused.

Sorry Miss C. I just meant that some of us may want to solve them on our own, and enter our answers in at Leaky before we read the answer by someone else. but if you want to put your thoughts here, it's certainly late enough in the week to do it. If we haven't figured it out by now, we probably aren't going to by tonight, and if we want to...well, we don't have to read it here first!
Post away! Erin

Wow...that was a tough one! Only 2 people got it right at Leaky! I don't feel so bad now! I will post that answer later. Here is the new memory to solve!
Memory #3
Each task in life brings you closer to your destiny, But finding this object only brings you somewhere else. A compromise led them here together, where one's journey ends. For both winner and loser, the reward is a homecoming. Where are you and what is the object?
Erin
Hey...I think I actually know this one!

Sorry I did not get back on earlier to give my guess to the riddle. Since no one has given it out yet here I go;
Well my guess is that you are in the Chamber of Secrets which normally only has the Basilisk as its occupant. The Sinister History trying to get out might have to be the young Tom Riddle in the Horcrux Diary. I do not see though how the object is intact at the end because Harry does in fact kill the Horcrux using the Basilisk tooth. Now the loyal friend would have to be either Fawkes or Ginny. I am going to go with Ginny since she as Harrys loyal friend brought the diary to existence with her own being, having almost given her own life in the process.

You are SO close, Duddahs! It was indeed the Chamber of secrets. The item that was saved was Ginny's soul.
I think I actually figured out the 3rd one!!!

Well, since we both are fairly sure of what we think it is, I will go after it early this time.
It is the Tri Wizard Cup and after they compromised to take the cup together, they were transported to the Riddle Grave Yard in Little Hangleton and then Harry once again used the Cup which was a Port Key back to the Maze entrance where Harry brought Cedrics dead body back to his father.

We were right!
Here's the next memory...which I am pasting here, but i haven't read yet...
Memory #4
If you sought this item, you would have been wise to ask for help. When the answer came, it was grey and seemed hopeless. But with thought provoking insight, a tarnished memory was rediscovered. Necessity is the key, the mother of invention. With fiery pursuit, the essence is both found and lost here.
Where are you and what is the object?
