variety.com/2023/tv/news/harry-potter-tv-series-hbo-max-1235578295/Well, this certainly was a surprise for me to see today. It looks like a new TV series on HBO is in the works centered around the HP books. The haven't said much thus far, but apparently each season will focus on one book and there are plans for ten years worth of content. Plus, the series will feature an entirely new cast. JKR is onboard as well, I think as an executive producer. David Heyman may also be as well. Curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this!

I am a bit skeptical about this, unfortunately. From the sounds of it (and I hope this really really is not true), it looks like this may be a remake-type deal of the films. I really hope not, there are tons of storylines they can explore within the framework/timeline of the books; there's no need to touch the main storylines. But why would they mention that there will be an entirely new cast then, if not the case?
Some good news though, via this quote from JKR:
"I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series"
Not quite sure what exactly this means, but it leads me to think they might explore different storylines. Here's hoping!
It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds and what the show frames up to be, as more info is released. I'm still watching it 100% though, I just hope they do it well and honor the books/films.

I'm cautiously optimistic... We all have those thoughts about them leaving out parts of the book, or changing something that didn't need to be changed...if these are truer to the books, and allow things like Peeves, SPEW, the Gaunts, etc...I may like it very much! Only time will tell...

I don't have HBO but maybe I could see some on Youtube or binge watch some on DVD. I'm a little confused-you think they would start from the SS and just do a total remake of the story, is this right. I have mixed feelings-Seeing a different Hagrid for instance would be hard and of course all the children would have to be new as the originals are too old. And my favorite, Maggie Smith, don't know if she would want to sign on for a whole series at her age. And of course, a new Snape would be hard! That being said, I'm sure I would tune in for every episode if I could! Erin, I agree, would love to see Peeves!
