NZ I noticed how you are using your Million for Deathly Hallows thread for posting thoughts/memories, that's cool. I'll probably post my memories or stories of him on this thread and repost quotes of his on your count thread. This is just ME. I'm not meaning for everyone. Is that alright? Duddahs sure did love his Harry Potter and would love for your thread to reach a Million. That would be so cool. No problem at all Miss Charlotte, no need to ask. It was a spur of the moment thing really. I'll most likely be posting back and forth as well. Actually, Duddahs was one of the first people I ran the idea of the Million for DH thread by, back on the WB site. He was super enthusiastic and encouraging, always reminding me that it could and had been done!

No mention of Jenn, which is why I think I will write the card to "Loved ones of Joseph..."
I will also add in about us donating to the charity.

Nope, I've always known her as JB. I thought she poked her head in here the other day.
---
I was doing a bit of quick back reading when I noticed I was not the only one who made mention of Duddahs "Little girl" poems. They were fun. He also told me he had fun writing them. Most often they were about Jenn.
--- Ice Box story
Here's another story that always made me smile to hear him tell. I like this one particularly now because of the donations he supported for youth ice skaters no matter if they were headed for the olympics or not. He said often he would combine his love for Harry Potter with his teaching. He made up a game. Before each class started, he would go out on the ice and draw a huge Hogwarts castle. In different rooms he would leave one of his of own Harry Potter stuffed animals. They would follow the line Duddahs drew throughout Hogwarts then they could pick up each toy along the way until the end. He was helping them develop their skills. He had a whole box of them. I won a Crookshanks from PJ's shoppe years ago. It's very well loved.
The weird thing about this. What I call a refridgerator my hubby calls an "IceBox". So, I can't help think of the skating rink throughout the day.
PS. Did you know that he also coached adult skaters? Several years back, while he was here with us, Duddahs was not one who boasts even though I would have been proud to, one of his adult male skaters went on to earn medals on his level. I think he showed us a clip once.

That's a great story Miss C. I do remember he sometimes put in clips of the skaters he coached, I always enjoyed those.

Wow. I thought more people would post memories here than this. I did save a few pictures of his tree. I'll try and see if they are not already on another thread elsewhere. One time, while watching the skaters one one of the shows here from my living room, I was thinking about the costumes. We know he would not have worn any Fawkes nor Barn Owl feathers out on his way trying to get to the olympics, so I just asked him what his costumes usually looked like. He told me his favorite color is and always was black. He always wore black even when he was not on the ice. He also told me that he was in the age group going up against Scott Hamilton. I can imagine how hard that was. I did ask him if there might be any footage with him in the background practicing or skating around. He knew what I meant. The poparatzi didn't as much back then as they do now, so there should not be any footage on the internet of his early time on the ice. As we already know, he loved to tell us all about his students. I can imagine the twinkle in his eye as he typed it up. I'll share other cool memories that make me smile.... hope they make you smile too.

I just received a letter in the mail from Joseph's partner Mark. It was wonderful, in it he describes Joseph's love for skating and coaching, and he thanked me for my donation to the Memorial Fund. I'll see if I can post a photo of it here, if you all would like to see it.

NZ, I did get a letter from the Memorial Fund itself, but it was more like a form letter. I would so much like to see the letter from Mark if you would like to post it.

Thinking of our dearest Duddahs especially today. One of the highlights of my holiday season was seeing the way Duddahs decorated his home and the meals he was preparing for everyone. So heartwarming and festive!
Sorry friends, I had completely forgotten about uploading a photo of the card. Will get to that ASAP!

I think this was his tree a year or so ago. I'm not sure if it's still up on the other thread that he set up for us to post personal images privately. Anyway, I also think this image can be clicked on to make it zoom in to see the ornaments. You can see some of the Harry Potter ones, Wizard of Oz ones and a couple that look like his two dogs. Hey, NZ I'd love to see the letter you got from Mark as well. Just whenever you can.

Such a lovely tree, thanks for sharing it Miss Charlotte! Ok, here are some photos of the card I received. In case its hard to read, here's what it says: Dear Nick,
Thank you for your generous and thoughtful gift in Joseph's memory. Figure skating was on of Joseph's (earnest?) and lifelong passions. When he could no longer compete himself, he became a coach. When he could no longer stand on the ice, he taught from the sidelines. He would have been extremely moved by your donation to the US Figure Skating Memorial Fund, as am I.
Sincerely,
Mark RaposaA wonderful card that I was not expecting at all!

I remember that tree too, I thought it was so pretty. What a great card NZ, thanks so much for sharing that! Yes, I always think of Duddahs during the holidays, especially watching Christmas movies, as he and I liked a lot of the same ones. Also, JB, I still watch Love Actually every Christmas season while I do my baking. I always think of you since I remembered you loved that movie too.

Hi all. I still think of our Duddahs regularly. He really made an impact!
I feel awful...I too, received a card from Mark, thanking us, in much the same way as in NZs card. I meant to post it on here, and things have been SO crazy at work...I'm barely getting dinner on the table...in fact...tonight I'm not...we've ordered out because I'm still working on paperwork that I just didn't get to earlier. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly where that card is right now, but when I come across it again, I will be sure to post pictures.
As a matter of fact, I wound up ordering our Christmas card pictures really late, because work has been so crazy...and I haven't even gotten around to sending them out!!! It's really terrible...
I picture Duddahs enjoying the breeze at his shell cottage, among his hydrangeas, perhaps reading Harry Potter. I wish to go the the ROR, and visit with him...with all of us! I imagine he's already gotten my Christmas card...

Wow. Hard to believe today is one year since Joe passed away, where has the time gone. Hope you are enjoying yourself up at Shell Cottage Joe, we are always thinking of you.
I had mentioned before that I was going to plant a hydrangea plant in honor of our friend Joe and his love for gardening. I'm happy to share that I did indeed plant it last month and it is growing very nicely. Will share a photo of it once it begins to bloom.

I love this, NZ! I can't believe it's been a year! It really doesn't feel that way...still makes me sad. I would love to see your hydrangea...they're one of my favorites, too!

I hope you all don't mind... i wanted to have a copy of Joseph's obituary, before they archive it, so I am copying and pasting it here:
Joseph A. Sorrentino It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph A. Sorrentino announces his passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the age of 58.
