Doctor Who? Who is he? No one even knows his true name!! River Song Might know it, but even WE viewers don't know if it's true or not. She keeps hinting, and she is very fond of saying "spoilers, sweetie" But I love her because she says "Hello Sweetie" every time she meets the doctor. I wonder if I can put that into the title of this thread?
Here's an old saying---The Silence will Fall when the doctor answers the age old question. The one that is right in front of him..the one that follows him everywhere. Doctor WHO? All we know is, He's a Time Lord, from Gallifrey, last of his kind...He 'borrowed' a TARDIS (the blue box) and has been running, ever since. Never stopped.
So-- I've seen all of the new versions starting in 2005. Christopher Eccleston only did one series of 13 episodes (yeah over there we call them series); David Tennant started Christmas of 2005 and stayed till Christmas of 2009. Then Matt Smith took over in 2010, and has been there ever since. This series started in 1963, with William Hartnell. Since then there have been nine regenerations, and we now Have the 11th doctor. I say nine, because there was no regeneration done for doctor number 8 to doctor number 9, played by Chris Eccleston.
The casting of this show has been brilliant, and so has the writing. Steven Moffatt took over from Russel T Davies, and continued the awesome writing.
So what are your thoughts? who has a favorite doctor? Mine was Tennant, the 10th doctor.

i47.TP .com/vx2qt5.jpg[/img] Since I'm just AWFUL with names, I think I need to put up this picture. I'm much better with faces anyway. Now here is a list of who they are. The eleven faces of the Doctor in chronological order. Left to right from top row; William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith. Tom Baker the one with the scarf was my favorite. I do recall seeing a few of Jon Pertwee. I didn't even know that was his name. And I do know I've seen more of Peter Davison than of Jon's version. Baker was the one who caught my attention and I just loved him. So far I have a lot of catching up to do. I went the other day to my local video rental store. They have a whole isle dedicated to different television series. You can rent them for a week at a time. They recently got in the show Grimm. They are all excited. That one is on my list pretty soon. However, I was shocked they don't carry any of the Dr. Who episodes. I think I've only seen about two or three with David Tennant. And I'm waiting on pins and needles for a movie due out next year (I think) that will have Christopher Eccleston playing a bad guy. All I keep hearing is that everyone is excited that they have a Doctor Who playing this role. Appearantly, he must be perfect for the role. Right now, I counted 22 episodes recorded from last week's marathon. I know by then I will have a lot figured out. I can't wait. Well, I should start it right now while my family is out. Daughter will be at the ballgame until late. It has not even started yet. Then hubby is out for a ride on his brand new motorcycle. He's been stir crazy and glad to be out. The temps were up in the hundreds (110 F.) while we were out this afternoon. High of 83 tomorrow. SOOOO Glad. Maybe I should start the marathon. I mean, it will probably take me all weekend to get through this... maybe all week. I didn't know if they continued on for all of these years. I knew they started AGES before I discovered them in the early 80's. Wow.. the 1960's! That is going to be hard to find old episodes from that far back. Still, I'm glad you posted what you did, so I know that they did take a break and restart this series. I missed a lot but at least not as much as I thought. Thanks for posting that little synopsis.

Miss C-- try looking online for watch series online....they'll have DR who dating back to 1963, I THINK. There have been old episodes streaming via Netflix, and I've noticed they have old series (before 2005 reboot) on dvd by mail. Me, It's too hard to go back, so-- when you watch all of the reboot new series adventures frm 2005, you'll catch up. Netflix has ALL of 2005- now. So does Blockbuster online. You might find some on You tube, but they at YT keep taking them off due to copyright laws.
Thanks for posting those pics!! I've just noticed something I never noticed before. Look at doctor num 3, and then at Matt, the 11th doctor. What are they wearing!! Bow ties!! blazer!! ohhhh so cool.
I'm using my little cell phone as a kindle device. So far I've read one comic book (tried to anyway) and one regular book on it. Comic books are hard to read due to the small print, but regular books I can make the font bigger. try your library-- I found some non fiction as well as science fiction, on dr who there too.
Peter davison---He was the fifth doctor with that celery stick on his jacket lapel. He has a daughter, named Georgia Moffet. (No relation to Steven Moffat as the spelling is different) Ok. Georgia is now married to David Tennant who played the 10th doctor who. Yeah. reel life meets Real Life. Timey Wimey....thing.
Speaking of time-- it's time for me to go nitey nite!!

That IS a celery stick! ;D OH and so they have Dr. Who comic books too? I'll probably stick to the tv set to keep up with this story... Oh and thanks for the ideas. I keep frogetting that some series you can watch on the computer. I found a couple of Masterpiece Theater shows on Youtube and watched them on this thing. I didn't think about old Dr. Who shows. I think I'll stick to what I have recorded and look to old stuff sometime after that. However... I was torn if I should post this next comment HERE or on the HP actors in other shows thread. I'll just stick it here. I did record last nights show. I seemed to have company keep stopping by during the showing so I only caught parts of it. Thank goodness for the record button. I thought it was so funny to see Arthur Weasley riding on the time machine that landed on a space ship in outter space that has Filch on it. There be Dinosaurs in space riding on Filch's spaceship too. ;D That is so crazy! ;D

I agree!! Mark williams didn't really look like Arthur's Dad....And the dinosaurs weren't really riding on filch's spceship-- his ship was merged with the dino ship-- and as a fluke it was headed towards Earth, Have you watched it fully yet? Spoilers, sweetie!! What was that character's name, that Filch was playing? I too recorded it but haven't re-watched it yet.
Harry Potter actors are forever popping up in other shows. The guy who played RIDDELL in this ep of dr who is the guy who plays LESTRADE on SHERLOCK which is another of BBC Wales shows. Mark Williams has also been in Merlin, and I think Downton Abbey.
Comic books aren't really worth your time-- the one I read had 6 separate issues continuing the same story. In other words, the comics always end saying "see part 2 coming up next month" or something. books are better, but if you have a PC, or a kindle, or a nook, you can download them CHEAPER than buying them in the stores.

No... I had too many interruptions to get to see it fully. I knew something was up when Filch took off away from the rest... then again, someone tried to talk to me so I missed even what was going on then. LOL. Honestly, I don't mind spoilers when it comes to this show. I'll get to see it one way or the other. OH and since you said you missed it, You'll have several chances to watch it this week. I was sitting there this morning doing some paperwork for work (so not to have to do it all at once) then I noticed the DVR was in record. I didn't think I had anything scheduled to record... So I went to check it out. Turns out that every weekday for about 2 hours each morning (for me, it's from 9-10, and 10-11am central time zone) they are playing the ones with David Tennant... 2007 series. So, because I had the setting for ALL Dr. Who episodes (not to be recoreded but once) I've been recording more to add to my list of ones to watch. AHHHHHHHH! I"ll never catch up! But hey... I'll have fun trying. Oh and I checked the one we were talking about with Arthur and Filch will be on several times on BBC America later on... I think this weekend. YOu can catch it again then if you don't watch what you've recorded. Hey... Off I go. I wish I had a Tardis... Better than a Time Turner necklace huh? ;D

Hey... Off I go. I wish I had a Tardis... Better than a Time Turner necklace huh? ;D And you're just getting that NOW? hee hee hee!! Oh I've recorded eps one and 2 on VHS of this seventh series-- I watched ep 2 today. I loved it when The dr, rory, and his dad rode the dinosaur, and the only way for it to GO was when rory's dad brian threw a golf ball and said "FETCH!!" so funny. The last part was when the dr showed up on solomon's ship (filch's) to rescue Queen Nefi, and he left a signalized magnet on board, which made the missiles from earth follow sol's ship and blow it up. The doctor did that to solomon because HE had killed the sulurian people. (Seee "HUNGRY EARTH series 5 for that reference) If you want spoilers, let me know. seems like you and I are the only ones here anyway.

Hey... Off I go. I wish I had a Tardis... Better than a Time Turner necklace huh? ;D LOL. noo... I've known that the policeman's box that he uses is how he travels time and space since he popped onto my tv screen back in the early 80's. LOL. WOW.. I WISH he would have popped into my living room back then.. that would have been cool in real life. HEy... it's perfect that it seems like only you and I are watching this show together. Sometimes on certain things I don't like spoilers... but I think THIS show I don' feel that way... SO POST AWAY! You might help things to click for me that I have not gotten yet.

I've watched town called Mercy at least three times, and Power of three 2 times. Weird little cubes on Power of three! Anytime you have questions I'll do my best to answer. Town called mercy is by far the best episode in the series...Maybe cos I love westerns so much. This ep was filmed in Spain, can you imagine it? So pretty out there.

Whoa! I"m addicted! I watch this show just about every day. There are two episodes which come on before lunch, Monday through Friday, not to mention the new episode which will start up again on Saturday nights later this month. I can't wait. I've been DVR'ing. The more I watch the more I get hooked. I love the writing... It's simply brilliant! I love how you can't really figure out what is going to happen before it happens. You just have to sit back, watch and allow your mind to soar. I'm trying my best to watch them in order so to not get mixed up... LOL. Then THEY like to make you go back and forth in time reintroducing things they have solved three episodes ago. So weird. I love the minds of their writers. And I love the idea of how far I have to go to catch up. They are also playing one special each month dedicated to each of the Doctor's in order. Followed by ONE of the best episodes from that particular Doctor. I did watch the one from the first Doctor about a week ago. It took me quite some time since I had to keep stopping it because life has been keeping me jumping so much... then restarting it again.... watching it in bits and pieces. So funny too. You can actually SEE the doctor seems to not have changed as much as I figured he should have through all of these reginerations. These guys are just brilliant. OH and yesterday (I had to pause it and hope to pick up where I left off yesterday, later on this afternoon) one where I saw Michael Gambon playing on this show. I had planned on posting ANOTHER Harry Potter actor on that show the other day.... but I can't seem to remember who that was.

OK I'm just blown away!!!! I just watched the season's finale and they introduced that John Hurt is the new Doctor. WHAT?!!!! November 23 we will see. I had not idea that they were going to kill off Matt Smith. Just when I really was enjoying him playing the role. Now our Ollivander will be the next Doctor. OK... I need to calm down. HEy... if any of you know of any Doctor Who sites where you can get any information.... not fan sites, but ones like MUgglenet or the Leaky Cauldron are to Harry Potter... PLEASE post a link. I don't think I could sit still until November. This is too much to take in so unexpectedly.

This is so cool! I only found out about this minutes ago. I can't believe it! I know I've mentioned how much I am a Doctor Who fan and have been for decades. A few minutes ago, I had to do a double take. I know the new season premiere is going to start soon. And I've noticed from the commercials that they are going to do a blend of all of the doctors in the same episode. I wondered how they were going to pull it off since the first doctor was an old man even when he played the role back in the 1960's. He's got to be long dead by now. Well, a few minutes ago, I saw a BBCAmerica TV movie called Doctor Who: An Adventure in Time and Space, will air on Sunday night. It tells of the making of this show's beginnings. Of course they had to recast the first doctor's role and who got it? David Bradley. Our Mr. Filch. I was totally blown away on how closely they truly resemble each other. I'm shocked that after all of these years watching him in the Harry Potter films that I never noticed this. So, I'm waiting on pins and needles. (Heads up. I'm going to do a double posting of this, since it really fits the Doctor Who thread as well as the Harry Potter actors in other films thread.)

I could not help but record this... as well as the season premiere. I was sitting here over the weekend and got to thinking about the Harry Potter connection. I think it's funny with 12 different people who have played the part of the Doctor over the past 50 years... with this movie I posted in the post prior to this one, there were THREE Harry Potter actors playing the Doctor. The first Doctor ever of course was played by William Hartnell.. but in this movie of the making of this show's beginning, was played by David Bradley... our Mr. Filch. Then we have Barty Crouch jr. David Tennent playing Doctor 10. So many people's favorite. and after watching the recent addition of the forgotten Doctor they are still dubbing as Doctor 12 when really he was Doctor 9 and a half in my opinion... Our Mr. Ollivander... John Hurt. I think this is cool how the Harry Potter series was so well cast that they didn't just find two bit actors from off the street. They made sure they used well seasoned actors or new faces that really could act... they just needed a break. Now we see them in other things. So cool... that two of my favorite tv series have so many connections like this. I had goose bumps all weekend.
