Thank you grandpa and duddahs for starting this section!!!
Ok The Sound Of Music---
I was able to see this at a southern California Performing Arts Center in the early 90's-- It starred Marie Osmond as Fraulein Maria..I'm sorry I don't recall who played the captain, but i DO recall that one or two of Marie's real-life children also were part of the cast. .OHHHH it was beautiful. a big stage too..lovely old furniture....I had seats on the first floor. I remember---the play had marvelous sets, but no staircase, as was in the movie. Also there were some songs that I was unfamiliar with, such as..."How can Love Survive" and "No way to stop it" I remember them singing these songs in the play.
A few weeks after I saw this play, I was able to get the book written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse...the entire broadway play text AND the songs in it. I was a bit obsessed...I admit!!!
A few years later I saw this same play, at a dinner theater and had a lovely dinner with my ex-boyfriend. This version was on a smaller scale, and so some songs were omitted, but it was still very familiar and quite enjoyable.
Has anyone else seen this play?

OH I LOVE the Sound of Music. I've not been to a play since I was a kid in grade school and the play was put on by classmates... but it was not this particular one.... really I don't recall what the play was about. Anyway... My daughter and I both know the songs from the Sound of Music by heart and we will burst out in song sometimes out of the blue. I also am a fan of Marie Osmond. I have been ever since her old tv show. I'll bet she was pretty good playing Maria. I'm glad you had fun and got to experience this.

I adore The Sound of Music movie but have never had the good fortune to see the play-it must be so much fun to watch on stage. And I too have the soundtrack and played it so much I practically wore it out-it's funny because the song do re mi came into my head from nowhere the other day and I was humming it all day. I remember hearing about the original play-didn't it star Mary Martin? And I think I read where Maria Von Trapp said at first she seemed nothing like her-but then she got used to her and grew to love the play too. When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything!!

yes, the original broadway play did indeed star Mary Martin. They did release the soundtrack for that play and i have it on a vynyl record!! YEP!! beautiful voices.
Yes the original maria von trapp did say the movie and the play were nothing like their real life experiences... the names of the 7 chilren were different and had different personalities; I've read the story by maria von trapp and it was indeed different. it was a long time ago, so I cannot tell you very much here, sorry.
