On this day in 1991....the magic BEGINS!!!
Harry woke very early with nervous excitement. Uncle Vernon drove to King's Cross, threw Harry's things out onto a cart, and even walked him into the station! Then he pointed out platform 9 and platform 10, remarked how platform 9 3/4 wasn't there, and left Harry standing alone. Thankfully, Harry found another wizard family, the Weasleys! Mrs. Weasley showed him how to get onto the platform, and there in front of him was the Hogwarts Express, and lots of other wizards and witches. Fred and George helped Harry get his things onto the train, and Harry wound up sitting with Ron...and a true friendship was born! Harry learned about chocolate frog cards...and collected Dumbledore's among others. He also tried Bertie Bott's every flavor beans. The briefly met Neville and Hermione, as they were searching for Neville's toad, Trevor. Ron told Harry about quidditch, and then Malfoy came in, acting all high and mighty, and offering Harry his "friendship", which Harry, thankfully turned down.
Once they arrived at Hogwarts, Harry saw Hagrid, who took the first years on their boat ride across the lake, and their first look at Hogwarts castle. Once inside, the first years were hustled into a room, where they got their first look at ghosts...and later, Peeves. Once in the great hall, the sorting hat sang it's song, and sorted the first years. Harry got his first idea of what it felt like to be famous...and stared at. And he was very relieved not to have been placed in Slytherin...and to be in Gryffindor with Ron. Dumbledore gave his speech, in which he warned all students to stay away from the off-limits third-floor corridor. After a very busy and happy day, an exhausted Harry fell asleep and dreamed of Quirrel, Slytherin, Malfoy and Snape...but didn't remember the dream come morning...

Wow thinking about it now, that must've been the best day in Harry's life up until that point. He must've been so excited and happy!

On this day in 1991, the first day of classes, Harry and Ron got on the wrong side of Filch, by accidentally winding up on the out-of-bounds third floor corridor. They learned to dislike Mrs. Norris, the tattling cat, very much. Peeves wasn't very helpful to the students. Over the next few weeks, Harry learns more about each of his classes...

That's pretty funny to remember, since it wouldn't be the last meeting they would have with either Filch or Peeves!

In 1991...Harry's very first week of classes... Astronomy every Wednesday at midnight, Herbology 3 times a week, and History of Magic...the most boring subject, taught by Professor Binns...a ghost! Apparently he had fallen asleep one night, in front of the staff room fire, and got up to teach the next morning, leaving his body behind... Charms was taught by a tiny wizard, Professor Flitwick.
Next up, Transfiguration and Defense against the dark arts...

It's fun to remember all these classes, imagine what a huge difference it made in Harry's life and how different it must have been from his previous school experience.

In 1991, Harry also began classes in Transfiguration and Defense against the Dark Arts. Harry learned that Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor house, was not a teacher to be crossed. And all were impressed when she changed a desk into a pig and back again...but the students started with trying to turn a match into a needle in their first class. The only student who had any success was Hermione Granger, who had made hers all silver and pointy.
Defense against the Dark Arts was taught by Professor Quirrell, who's classroom smelled of garlic, and who wore a turban on his head. Quirrell also changed the subject whenever a student asked him to tell of his adventures... At any rate, Harry was happy to find out that he wasn't miles behind the other students.

PS I'm stretching out the month of September a bit, because all of this (and more) happened in the first week, and then nothing until the end...plus I don't have time to write every night!

In September of 1991, Harry found out for sure that Professor Snape didn't like him...at all. He picked on Harry in Potions class, and made him look like a fool...especially to Malfoy and friends. We also begin to see what a know-it-all Hermioine can be!
Harry and Ron then went to meet Hagrid for a cup of tea, where Harry spotted the Daily Prophet article about a Gringott's break-in...and Harry made the connection between the date and the vault number...and knew that it was the same vault that Hagrid had taken the little package out of, on the same day he had gone to his own vault for the first time.

Oh...and I missed it...though it wasn't mentioned in PS/SS...
On Sept. 19, 1991, Hermione Granger celebrated her 12th birthday!

Near the beginning of the school year, in 1991, Neville received a remembrall from his Grandmother. Draco Malfoy snatched it away, but gave it back when Professor McGonagall showed up. The Gryffindors also had their first flying lesson with the Slytherins. Poor Neville lost control, and broke his wrist, and in so doing, dropped his remembrall. Of course, it was Draco Malfoy who found it, and tried to keep it away from Harry, who swooped after it, catching it just a few feet from the ground, as Prof. McGonagall saw the whole thing. Harry, thinking he was in trouble, followed her, thinking he had just ruined what would have been a nice future in the wizarding world. Instead, she brought him to meet a boy named Oliver Wood, who was delighted to find that he now had a new seeker for his quidditch team...Harry himself!

Yes, I love that scene in the book and very well done in the movie too. My favorite thing is when McGonagall, instead of being angry with Harry, is excited for the Quidditch team. Showed kind of a different side of MM.

Ok...attempting to catch up!
Later that same evening, after Harry had been drafted to the Gryfindor Quidditch team, Malfoy challenged Harry to a wizards's duel...at midnight, with Ron as his second...in case Harry dies! Hermione Granger overheard this, and reprimanded them about following the rules, and how selfish it would be not to. She tried intercepting the as they were leaving that night, and wound up coming with them, as she had followed them out of the common room, and the Fat Lady was ona nighttime visit elsewhere. They also met Neville out there, who had come back from the hospital wing, who had fallen asleep when he couldn't remeber the password to get in. So the four off them went to the duel, which never actually happened, because Malfoy had tricked them, wanting them to get caught out of bed, and get in trouble. They were able to outrun Filch and Mrs. Norris, but got caught by Peeves the poltergeist, and in running from him, found themselves hiding in the forbidden corridor....and facing a monstrous viscious, dog with three heads! They managed to run back to the Gryffindor Common room, where thankfully the Fat Lady had returned, and Harry realized that the dog had been placed there to guard something...probably the something that was taken from vault 713 at Gringott's.

I really like the new History banner, reading it today and imagining being in that library looking up Flamel! I just got my bandages off my hand/arm. Makes posting so much easier to do. I have tons to see about transferring April's info from Erin's research here to update the main page.
Glad you like it... MSG (our newest member) created it. I really can't wait to see what all happened in April. I'm going to try to get to that and a few other things on my list to do for THIS week.
