Hello guys.  

This new upgrade to Proboards v5 seems to have rearranged a few features we commonly use. I'll post on this thread how to find our way to those old features. 

I will also post here details on how to use the new features available.

I'll also keep you updated when I add new things that are not here at this time.

This thread will also be a good place to let you all know updates on features I've asked for and how they are coming along while we wait for Proboards to make them available or deny us either way.

I think I'll also use this thread to inform you on new skins that have been added to chose from in case any of you are interested.

If you guys have any questions at all, feel free to post them here OR even send me a pm. My wish is to make this site be not only a fun place to hang out but be user friendly.

KARMA


Hello guys. Right now, I'm currently working on getting the Karma up and running.

Still working on this. For some reason I had it somewhat working yesterday, now nothing is clickable.
I'm going to look in on this further. In the meantime I'm going to tackle something else.

Well, I've left a message and the guy who created the Karma system has not been online since then. I've tinkered with it a bit on my own and made some headway, but there is still something getting in the way of making it work.

Default Skin/theme rotation

Phooey, I forgot to post this earlier. I just saw your post Duddahs on the other thread. Sorry.

I plan on rotating the default skin/themes several times a week. So, if you don't have your settings set to keep you logged in, then you will find the default theme change from time to time. It's not permanent anymore. Once you sign in, then the skin you have chosen will pop into place.

My next thing to work on will be to get the name Lovegood Lounge back up top where it should be seen. Or at least a bit larger so everyone should know what site they are on.



UPDATE: AUGUST 16, 2013
    For the newer members to get settled in, I probably will hold off rotating skin/themes so not to confuse anyone this early on. I'll post here on this post when I will begin doing this again. Thanks guys. And welcome.

Click it and it will take you quickly to the top of the page. No more spent time, scrolling up or down long pages.

Tip of the day....

PREVIEW or BBCode?




If you notice there are these options at the bottom of the window that you type up your post in.

If you click the "Preview" option then whenever you choose a smilie from the smilie options, you will get to see the smiley in the post while you are still typing it up.

If you choose the BBCode, you will only see the code for it.

Still, no matter which option, once you have posted your post, the smiley will be in there for all to see.

MOODS

This is for fun. I know it gave me a chuckle the first time I tried this out.

First, if you wish to do this.... you HAVE to reply in the regular way for the option button to show up.

NOT on the quick reply option.

Look down to the bottom right hand part of your post screen... (right next to the "Create Post")

You will see the "Post Mood" option.

Choose one from the list then click Create Post.

HAVE FUN!




(ps. for some reason you can not go back to edit it in if you forgot. It does not work on the edit screen.)

Yep it works alright. I'm thinking about naming Mondays as "Madeye's Moody Mondays" where our members here will post away on that day using the mood option.

OK... Here's another tip for today.

Bookmarks

You can have your "Email" option set to where, once you've bookmarked a thread, you can have emails sent to you from this site to let you know someone has posted on that thread.

OR... you can choose the "Forum" option that lets you know once you sign onto this site, you will see how many (and which threads you've bookmarked) has been posted on since your last time here.

First you go to your Profile to set the settings.


Find and click "edit"... it's over to the left.



Then click the "Notifications" tab.

Make sure you have either the Forum option enabled or the Email option enabled for your bookmarked threads to notify you that they have been posted on since you were last there.

How to choose a thread to bookmark

Notice on each thread up top where it says  "Actions"  Click it.
A dropdown box gives you choices.



Click Bookmark. You will notice the book icon will show on the page of threads to choose from.




If you chose the Forum notification, once you sign in, if any of your bookmarked threads have been posted in, you can tell by looking up top at this. This is for the Forum Option as well as for the Email option.



If you click this bubble, it will show you all of those particular threads so you may click directly on them as a shortcut.

NEW FEATURE: ALTERS


Those of you who have clicked upon the Quote of the Week or posted on the Question of the Week threads have already seen me use this option when I post as Xeno. I'm using it now for this Kreacher sn.

It's really easy.

It's the same as with the MOOD option. If you notice down at the bottom of the post screen you have an option to choose an alter. I already have my usual ones set up for me to choose from (Xeno Lovegood, Winky, Albus, Rom the House Elf etc.) EDITED UPDATE: I just now realized that if you don't send me any information to set you up an alter, that button will not show up on the bottom of your post screen.

If YOU would like to use this, I need the information sent to me so that I may set up yours. It will take just a couple of minutes. It makes it so much easier to post using more than one character without having to sign out then back in using a different SN. I'll also make sure your alter is safe by making it to where only YOU can click to use that character. So it's YOURS until you give it up to another person.

(PS. Also, note that like the MOOD option, you can not use the Alter option when posting from the Quick Reply box. And you can not go back to edit it back in if you forgot.)

TROUBLE LOADING PAGES? HERE'S AN OPTION

Announcement. It's been suggested that at the times we all seem to have troubles with pages loading, that I create a skin (or theme as they've renamed it) that will have just the basics. Not many images. Mostly using colors. I'll be disabling most of the codes too that might be an issue. This would make things run smoother for you during that time.

Right now everything is running smoothly for me. Knock on wood .The site has been glitchless for a couple of weeks for me. Not sure about anyone else here since I have not heard from any of you.

We know a lot of the times it IS the Proboard site's servers. Then many times it's NOT the site servers. It could also be the image host site that I've chosen to use, OR our own internet service provider. I know weather could cause a problem for those of us on satellite or dialup. (Mine's through my cable company... separate from my Dish satelite.) We did not want to get a package deal knowing that storms or clouds will sometimes knock out the satelite. Believe it or not, pure sun will knock out MY satelite services as well. *rolleyes* 

Anyway... sorry for the ramble.

I've created a theme and called it: Hagrid's Hut EASY LOADING. Choose this one during loading issue days and this should be a better fix for the time being. Give it a day or two and hopefully if there is a glitch going on, it might be resolved, or when the weather is more agreeable with your ISP. So, I'd check back periodically if you wish to use your original theme of choice. Or, just stick with this one. It's up to you.

A Discovery for our Mini Profiles

It's been there the whole time. I only now found it. If you notice, below my name and avatar I now have a list of favorites to share. You can too. Just go to:


Profile>Edit Profile>Personal

then scroll down and fill in the blanks.
I chose things off the top of my head to put as questions. If any of you wish to add to that list, let me know and I'll add it. It only takes a second to type up sentence or two so nothing's to it.

Also, a note: If there is anything you don't wish to answer, just leave it blank. It will skip over anything not answered making a smaller bit added to your mini profile. (I know I often talk in circles: I mean, for instance, if I didn't put anything for my favorite ice cream, that heading will not even be there. It only shows what you do answer.)

Any questions, just let me know.

How to personalize the LOOK of this site for Your own use:

I realize some of us might have problems with bright colors. Or dark colors. Or you might like a different theme (example the sunflowers might not be a place you want to hang out at. You can choose from a variety of themes... Snape? or Hagrid's hut? Quidditch anyone? Many people like the Shell Cottage. I create a new one from time to time. Even will try to do one on request. Just please don't be shy. I'm up for the challenge.)

Here's how to check them out. Go to:

Profile>Edit Profile>Settings
Scroll down to Forum Theme

Once you've selected one don't forget to save it.

* I have many boards set up to show their own theme. What you choose will be your default one for areas not preset.

* Heads up! I often get bored so, I tend to change the "overall site's default" theme frequently as mentioned earlier. If you don't choose one, you will see this happen. If you have a theme saved. Yours will not change. It'll stay just as you want it to.

Want to make the front page shorter?

Click on the Category title bars for each section to collapse or reopen them whenever you want.

 

Here is a view of the entire front page collapsed down with only one category being open to view at this time.

The Quick Reply has one too. That one you click on the eyeball to make the eyelid open or close.

FINDING THE MOST RECENT POST ON A THREAD


I know I would love nothing more than to simply click the thread banner to take you to the top page... It's been asked of the proboard techs if they could make this an option . They said it's not possible at this time. I'm keeping an eye out in case they inform us that this option is available.

SO... you have to click the highest page number under the thread title (or thread banner) to get you there.

You can also click the "NEW" button beside the thread title or thread banner and it should take you to the place you last left off when viewing that thread.

PS: Also a note to newer members... Threads here are read like books, read from top to bottom of page. So, It's opposite from the WB where posts are stacked on top of each other with the top post being current. See the note about the arrow over to the right bottom corner for faster navigation top to bottom.

THREAD BANNERS

Just a quick note... Since this site is not set up like the WB... If you have a premade banner you want installed for a thread.. You need to pm it to me.

I have to manually put them in for you. No problem either for me to do so... just a couple of clicks then viola! There it be.

Just note the size of the ones already here so to make your's as close to that size as possible. No larger. Thanks.

Miss Charlotte, I had a question. When I log in, there's a number above the word profile. This number goes up and down, sometimes even when I'm in the middle of posting. Just wondering what it means and is there something I'm supposed to do with it? Thanks!

Yes! (It's there for your convience to use.)

Here's an example. See the little white number 1 in the bubble above my profile?



Click on it. It will take you to your profile page where you will find you have a notification with that same number.

Probably, when you did your settings, you might have clicked to have a notification if someone quotes you in a post... just like I did now.

To find out who quoted you and what thread that happened on, click on the notification. You can see from my screencap that I too have one informing me that I have (1) waiting for me to find.

Now, for the reason that number might go up or down, means you most likely have clicked on that particular thread to find it on your own, without the notification clicked. If it goes up... that means someone just quoted you since again while you were here.
