They are these little half round cookies.. They are also known as Angels Pillows and they are often made for Christmas.
Sometimes Lemon, sometimes Orange and often a touch of Anisette for a little Licorice flavor... They are white and have hard white frosting on them.
My grandparents always had these out on the counter for us when we come over.... Of course these were my Italian Grandparents.

Ooo I think I know what that is.. but we called them or something like them by another name... I'm going to go find a pic. be right back. Is this sort of what you are talking about? i51.TP .com/2zi6d7k.jpg[/img] This is the brand I like best... not the kind with the powdered sugar but the glaze that cracks when you bite into them... Oh I got hooked on these when I lived in Germany.. I have to have them at Christmastime. But I have never heard of the Lemon or Orange ones... Always the licorice flavoring. Mmm.

Close but not exactly..
Those are a Peppermint/Nut type of cookie while Anginettes are made from Grand Manier liquor (orange flavored) some time Lemon Cello and or Anisette to have a licorice flavor...
Also Anginettes are more cake like and Pfeffernusse re more like a Biscotti consistency. Love them both though!

cool!!! lol, no, i'm not a pure blood, per se! people these days always have some ancestry from neighbouring countries at least. even though, on my dad's side, we've been traced back to 1066 in england. it could even go further back...that's when they first started keeping records. before that, it was normandy. now, that was my dad, his dad, etc....but what about everyone else? sure, it's english, but there could be ancestors from somewhere else, too

I think it's cool doing family history. My parents were really into it. I know I need to start doing research just to take up where they have left off to this point.
My maiden name is Lloyd.. Yes same as the Lloyd's of London.. so my dad's side is from England.. But our branch came here to the US a long time ago. Mom's side has a lot of Irish... German on both sides.. But with so much research as you said, you will find a mixing of many of the surrounding countries. It's easier to say what I am not than what I am. LOL. I'm not African, asian, nor Italian. I do have american indian on both sides... cherokee and some Comanchee on my dad's side.. but to look at me I have more Irish and English traits that most everything else is drowned out. I also have Scottish, Welch, Dutch, French, Sweedish... basically most european. But really I think it's cool... I have a bit of all of these people all inside of me. I have a way to carry on their heritage.

Half Italian, half Irish, here! My parents were "pureblood" ;D
My Mom's parents came from Italy as young adults. My Dad's family came over here during the potato famine...from County Cork.
My kids are even more "mudblood" than me....They are 1/2 irish, 1/4 Italian, 1/8 Scottish, 1/8 German.

No No JB, I am certainly proud of my heritage. What I meant is all of my family is Italian, and there isn't no one of different descent. I'm just saying that it would be more interesting if there were some people of different descent in my family. That way you could learn about other countries history and culture and not just learn about one.

I don't have Italian in my family but I have a soft spot for Italy because of my Dad. He was in World War II and stationed in several different countries-but Italy was by far his favorite. He talked a lot about how much he loved it. He said the people were wonderful and in particular there was one family who befriended him and his friends and had them to many meals. When they left Italy the family gave him a St Teresa medal for protection. He wore it even though he wasn't Catholic-he said he never got even a scratch during any of the fighting he was involved in.

NZ... That's interesting. I mean you are all Itallian but you live in Canada? I think that is what I heard you say a couple of times before.
Then Fangsfan... Uh... I've been to Italy... for all of fifteen minutes long enough to pull over and eat a can of ravioli on a waterside bridge area... then leave. For some reason we just felt weird being there.
OH the driving.. Their roads are even smaller than in Germany. Still, it's cool to honk your horn as you drive through a tunnel. It echo's... Oh and they honk back. Yep they know us.. we are the stupid Americans the only people who do that. ;D
