Would the Wesley's want a house elf, especially after Hermione joins their ranks. What if Voldemort had decided to go into wizarding politics? ;D Yeah, especially after Hermione joined the family.. But I too had wondered about that... Would Molly have to teach the elf how to prepare the family's favorite dishes? I would see her being a control freak, following the elf around and mentioning how the elf could not clean it as well as she could... then she'd miss doing some of the cleaning herself and just jump in there and get back to her own habits.. BUT all this despite how she herself mentioned how she would love to have a house elf, to help out around the house. I think she'd like it at first but then after a while find it hard to let go of what she did with her life. It's like stepping aside to allow someone else to take over doing everything you had ever done. It makes one feel sort of useless at times. I guess I responded to this post because it hits home on so many levels. For many years I had always saw myself... thought that MY duty in life was to take care of my son. Then every time he was in the hospital, they (the nurses) would tell me to go sit down (same thing at school on a daily basis.. his teachers would tell me that too.) They would all say he's theirs right now that I could not have him yet. I felt so useless when I knew I could tend to him faster.. better than them. Having to let go is hard. Then even when I'm sick, I have friends who want to come help out.. bring meals in or even have offered to help clean house.. Boy do I scowl... I allow the meals knowing I would be the ONLY one in the house who would appreciate it, especially the home cooked meals. As much as I would love to have a spotless house ALL of the time, which I definitely do not... having a house elf clean would bug me too much. As you can probably tell... aside from not knowing how to cook.. I somewhat see myself as akin to Molly... as well as a house elf. Good grief... why am I posting this? As for Voldemort going into politics? I think at that point the story would have gone downhill for me... especially since I loathe ANY conversation having to deal with politics... (too argumentitive... too much contention arises. Very touchy subject when people are VERY opinionated.) We had enough warring going on than to add that to the mix. I might not have even finished reading Harry Potter at that point.

Miss Charlotte, I know that you know that I have a house elf that comes and helps keep Duddahs nest cleaner for him because, well first Duddahs just does not have the time in the day to do all of that but alas, Duddahs is getting a little grey around his horned ears and his body just won't let him do the things he did once upon a time..
So, Duddahs would be lost without his house elf.. Honestly LOST, probably in a pile of dirty feathers or something.
I can bet you Galleons to Knuts that Miss Molly could get use to having a house elf round the house...
And from everything I read about Molly, she could cook and from what you have said and we have discussed this for a while now, you Miss Charlotte can cook, you just did not have folks that wanted you to practice too many different things on them that is all.
I find that I am my best Guinea Pig, and it does help that my Grandfather became a top level Chef once he retired from Politics and opened a wonderful Italian Restaurant and even when he moved to Vermont, he had a small luncheonette where there used to be this old shoe store called Dix Shoes, and the Luncheonette was called Roses after my step grandmother Rose. I believe it was more of a passion for them to just have something to do as they did not have to work at their retirement, they just both needed something to do.

Yeah I know you have your own house elf, but she's not there every minute of every day or else you might see what I mean. And I see your situation is a little different than Molly's. Yeah... I do believe Molly would like it in the beginning. Yet, knowing this has been her main purpose in life.. to cook, clean, tending to kids and hubby's needs, she did not have anything else left in life for her. I think this is where she hits home for me. I'm a bit lost right now. Only because I have had to step back on a lot of this. I guess I miss cleaning up after them. Did I just say that? ;D I think I need to go to bed... Im not making sense anymore. ;D Goodnight all.

What if, Ron had not creashed the Ford Anglia into the Whomping Willow?

What if Petunia was just as loving and excepting of Lily and the wizarding world? Would things be different in how Harry turned out? Would the Dursley's have spoiled their son in such a way too? I've often wondered if Dudley was spoiled rotten just because Harry was there... as if they were trying to make up for something between the two. Naa... he was already kicking his mom down the street before Harry was dropped off. Still, my original thought about how Harry would have turned out had they treated him with kindness and love, would he have been any different by the time he reached Hogwarts? Would he still have the fight to survive running so prevalent within his veins? He had always been the underdog and so it pushed him in ways that caused him to make it through no matter what. I know one thing, he would have been different around Sirius Black too. Would he have found something else to help him produce a patronus?

What if Bathilda Bagshot had been able to use her magic to fend off Nagini.

What if Bathilda Bagshot had been able to use her magic to fend off Nagini. Wouldn't that have embarrassed Voldemort knowing he placed a horcrux inside something far too fragile, that even an incompetent which could slay it? Actually though I think having a part of Voldemort’s soul inside the creature made it almost invulnerable to most normal magic and that is why Arthur could not defeat the snake and we know he is more than just competent when it comes to being a wizard. What if, Ron had not crashed the Ford Anglia into the Whomping Willow? As far as the story goes I think very little would have changed. Ron still would have received a howler from Molly and Arthur would have still gotten in trouble with the Ministry of Magic. I think of course J.K. Rowling would have to find a new way of introducing the Whomping Willow to the story, and having Ron and Harry get away with something like that might change them from appearing to be two boys whom are victims of their circumstances to looking like actual trouble makers. What if Petunia was just as loving and excepting of Lily and the wizarding world? I honestly don't think treating a child lovingly is ever a bad thing. Overdoing it and spoiling a child is another thing entirely in my humble opinion. I think having Petunia spoil Dudley was just another symptom of Petunia's jealousy for Lily, and if she had treated the two children lovingly it wouldn't have changed Harry too much except the story might have been less dramatic. One change in Harry might have been he would not have seen Draco as the person he was in Sorcerer’s Stone and the two might have become friends, but I am not so certain of this. What if Voldemort had won in book seven?

Well then I guess the wizarding world would be corrupt.
But, do keep in mind that Harry was also a Horcrux and with all of Voldermort's Horcruxes destroyed at this point, anyone would have the ability to kill him, given the chance.

What if Bathilda Bagshot had been able to use her magic to fend off Nagini. For some reason I have the mental image of Yoda in one of the last movies. He was fighting off I believe count Duku. So here she is with a wand in place of a Light Saber, fighting Nagini. Still.. you DID say what if? If she had... I would believe she would have allerted authorities or at least Dumbledore as to what nearly happened. It would have caused at least Dumbledore to question the reasoning behind this. I don't see the Ministry taking her serious. Hmm? Come to think about it.. I wonder who came first Nagini's attack on her or Skeeter's? I'll betcha anything Skeeter got to her first and so left her in a weakened state, ripe for Nagini to take over.

What if Voldemort had won in book seven?
NZ does have a point with Harry killed, anyone could kill Voldemort unless he created another Horcrux. Then wouldnt' that be Voldemort's undoing? He was stretched very thin to the breaking point by then. Maybe he would have chosen other measures to help make himself immortal?
Still, my thoughts on your question. We only had the opportunity to see the wizarding world from the point of view of that region. So, with that said, I've always wondered how Voldemort would faired attempting to take over other Ministries of the wizarding world? For some reason I saw each part of the world to be about equal.. not as if the Ministry led by Fudge, Srimgeour etc to be the dominant wizard ministry of the world. I know Voldemort would have outted the wizarding world to the muggles in this area... would that have caused a ripped effect causing the other ministries havoc to deal with?

I think if Voldemort had defeated harry another like Neville, or Ron, or Hermione would have taken up the fight against the Dark Lord especially after Neville cuts off the head of Naginni. I don't think making a horcrux is something which can be done casually or by mistake so I still to this day think J.K. Rowling made a mistake when she made Harry's scar a horcrux by accident.

What if, when Harry told Professor Trelawney about the prophecy she made at the end of book three, she had believed him? I'm drawing a blank here. Please remind me. Ok.... Remember Dumbledore told Harry that it might be best for Harry not to tell Trelawney that it was she who predicted this whole thing? I think that was how it went. Or he did tell her and she mentioned that even she would not predict something like that (even though each year, she routinely predicted a students death on the first day of school. ) She did not believe him. So.... I would guess if she had belived Harry... or believed that she really was the one who made that prophecy... I can see her boasting about it.. That THIS is something she did. This too would be dangerous for her because that would make her a target for Voldemort to go after....especially once the prophecy was dropped and destroyed at the Department of Mysteries. I really don't think that Trelawney would have thought that far in advance to keep her mouth shut, so it might end with her death... OR... She'd tremble even more, worried that Voldemort was going after her (if she was clued in to the danger she was in. Thank goodness Snape never told Voldemort WHO made the prophecy because he easily could have right?) I can see she would never leave her tower after that had she known what danger she was in. Thank goodness for Dumbledore, who took care of her.. Gave her a home... etc.

Maybe she would stop drinking so heavilly and start giving the students proper lessons. just my humble opinion

What if Draco never attempted to approach Buckbeak?... Thus never got hurt... Never made his parents call for Buckbeak's head... (which we all know they too were trying to get Hagrid sacked.) Still... what if?

Still... what if? I disagree with you on the intent of the Malfoys and on the purpose of Draco's approaching Buckbeak as he did. I think Draco is no fool and purposefully acted disrespectfully towards the Hypogrif knowing he would get hurt and that Hagrid would not let a student get killed. I think the original intent of Draco was to do something to make Hagrid look bad, but when he saw that Harry got along with Buckbeak, I think Draco found a more spiteful way of hurting Harry and Gryffindor.

;D Ok....
For most of the world, we saw it as Draco not paying attention. He was thinking Hagrid is this oaf and does not belong teaching any class... He then noticed how harry charmed the Hippogryff and decided to show everyone that ANYONE can do this that they are making a big issue over nothing. See what ignorance can do? Buckbeak could have easily killed him.

I guess it is just the conspiracy theorist in me seeing things differently than others. I originally read it like you suggest but then thought later that maybe it wasn't ignorance but rather spite.
