Duddah, are you sure that he didn't come back to show you that HE DID IT!!!? He GOT that bird!!! Woo Hoo!....
Na... I know what you mean.
During this time of year we have tons of black birds and crows that migrate this way... millions I kid you not. The trial will run from horizon to horizon and not stop for at least a week or two.. Then when a portion of the flock decide to stop you can not see the ground for the black mass of birds. And what noise they make. Really I stand in awe at the sight as well as the noise. (Next to that sort of flock are ducks when they migrate.. but not all at the same time as the blackbirds and crows.)
Yesterday, Daughter walked outside and looked up across the road at the trees. She could not understand why she could hear the ruckus of birds but not see a single bird. They probably was on the ground filling up the back yards of all of those people who lived over there.
Yeah... racoon stories are often funny.. But what's not funny is when you hear something digging in your trash outside, then you go out there to spook it off only to find some strong smelly possum staring back at you. Those things are awful and are harder to get rid of too.

Do you know, I have never seen a possum although my Aunt had one in a tree outside her porch once. But some friends of mine who have a trailer near the woods said they heard a noise in their bathroom recently-and found three baby possums. They got them out somehow but said one of them growled at them!

I was walking through the woods with some cousins of mine only to pick up this large sheet of tin someone ditched out there in the middle of nowhere. That is when I found a mama and her babies. They didn't growl, but looked at me scared-like. Then I dropped the tin and ran screaming out of there. I knew it was no racoon and had no idea what they were. I was about seven at the time. Anyway, I never heard of them before much less than see one.

C.J. has his Jingle Bell collar on now and I can hear where ever he is because he keeps shaking his head and the bells give him away!

The cat I had gorwing up used to wear one of those bell collars all the time...otherwise he'd catch those poor birds!

Erin, sometimes when my dog Andy has been outside, Duke the cat acts like that. He always gets over it but it only seems to happen when Andy's been outside. He must smell something on it, but it's funny because Andy is so much bigger but he's scared of the cat and I have to protect him!

LOL Poor Winky....Dobby keeps hissing and growling at her! Erin ;D Erin... you know I had to reread this twice to make sense of it.. DUH... your cats. Oh mercy me... you cracked me up. ;D Really... all that has to do is with the scent. That is how they recognize each other. My cats do this when I take just one to the vet and they ended up using some sort of wash on her before surgeries... so the scent is all different to them that is an entirely different cat. They will be back to normal before long.

He must smell something on it, but it's funny because Andy is so much bigger but he's scared of the cat and I have to protect him! That has always been something that worried me. See with my three cats they are very protective and very agressive if any dog were to come into sight much less close enough to be smelled. Then I sometimes have company (inlaws) who get their feelings hurt when I ask them not to bring their dogs over without warning us first, so I may put the cats up in the back room for not only the dogs safety but the cats as well. I mean, They got their feelings hurt that I asked them this... I love dogs as well.. but I fear for both when they become thrown in together. The poor dog does not even try to hurt the cats.. they just freak out. The dog does not deserve to be hurt. I just never figured out why my company would get their feelings hurt that I thought of their beloved dog's wellbeing while at my house. My cats can stay in the back room with no problem.

It does seem strange that their feelings would be hurt, Miss C. It seems that it is so nice that you are letting them BRING their dog...they SHOULD be letting you know beforehand!
Winky and Dobby ar back to normal. I knew it was a scent thing...but this never happened with our last pair of cats, even when one went to the vets (for surgery, even)...strange. Maybe because those were indoor/outdoor cats, and were used to different smells? Winky and dobby are indoor only. I'm just glad she didn't freeze out there, poor thing! She did catch a mouse, though! LOL

Hmmmmm.
I had 3 generations of my Shi Tzu's for 12 years in the house and I know that when one of the Puppy's siblings would come over to visit, they always knew who he or she was at an instant.
Vanderbilt, the father of the puppies would not let any other dog in our home that was not related to him, but when Bernie or Belle came over with their respective families for a visit, they would all round up at the front door and try to knock it down to get to them!
Only one who would not do this is the puppy, C.J. himself. He knew from birth that he was his mothers favorite and always was lavished with special attention. He took almost 6 weeks to start to walk with his hind legs and she knew he was special from the get go. Turns out he must have been faking it just to get us to keep him with his family..
Well it worked..
C.J. does love Bernie and Belle but will wait on his puff for them to come to him and then allow them to snuggle up to him. He knows who's house it is and I guess wishes to keep it that way.

Yeah... that seems so even with Duddahs dogs, which of course, have to be let outside and are able to pick up the smells of the outdoors. My cats are all indoors. I got tired of my cat graveyard growing after I buried my Fred. That was hard to do. So I made all inside. Funny... Daughter just told me yesterday there is a lady in my stairwell who walks her cat on a leash.
Duddah, Somehow I figured your CJ was the runt of the litter... just basking in the love of being the little one.

Actually, even with C.J.s early learning disabilities, he actually was not the "RUNT" of the litter. His sister bell is still very tiny.. Her eyes are so huge that when you see her all you see is this huge smile and two massive black eyes on an almost white/ivory little body.. She has a big butt like her mother did but she is tiny.. I think she weighs about 8 pounds while C.J. is about 23 pounds and Bernie is the same as his father, sturdy, strong and muscular and weighs in around 30 pounds. You can tell they are all brother and sisters though... When we got Astor from the Breeder, she was the smallest in her tribe and was bullied by her siblings and her aunt and uncle even though her parents were very protective of her. She was the breeders favorite and the entire family cried like babies when I finally came to pick her up.. She was very special beyond belief.. The only little girl that I have ever had until she herself had a little girl, Belle.. And the funny thing is that Belle and Astor disliked each other from the get go. Belle was the first out of the box, the first to eat, the first to walk, the first to leave too..

OH... they sound so adorable. I can just picture them in my mind the way you describe them.
on another note...
For some reason today seems to be the day to get into dog conversations. A lady at lunch has two that is moving down here soon. She's from Georgia and her hubby just died so she moved back here to be near her family.. Now, she has her two dogs to bring here once she's settled in.
Then there is this guy.. I don' tknow his name... who has a puppy he can't seem to potty train. I've never had any luck on that task. I guess kids are easier than pups on that note. LOL!
Funny... right now Mattie wants to play fetch and keeps bringing me her favorite mouse... IT's orange.. Why do all of my cats choose the orange one out of the lot to be their favorite?

Oh... gets to say something else... Where I live, I am on the bottom floor of my stairwell, facing the back yard. I get to see ALL of the Christmas puppies each time they go for their walk around the building... Thank goodness they don't choose to go poo right next to my balcony. ;D... but they are so cute.. OH and they quickly get the full attention of my cats too. ;D

Oh goodness.... Here I am sitting at the computer and then suddenly my two cats go running through from the other room.. Mattie suddenly ends up spring boarding off of me. Thank goodness I have my jeans on or my backside would be quite sore right now... That goofy cat. I didn't know what had happened until I noticed Hermione cat at the bottom of my computer cabinet.

I was watching television early this morning... There was a show where they counted down the 10 cuties cats in the US. (I've seen most of it already before.. and after that was one for dogs.) Well, today I was able to watch the end. The reason I'm posting this, category number seven, the clip that showed a dog and cat pair had a cat named Hermione just living it up while a dog licked her face. I thought ... HEYYYY I'm not the only one with a cat named Hermione.

I think it's a cool name for a cat. On my OES.org website one lady has two sheepdogs named Tonks and Luna.

What is an OES.org Website?

Oh sorry, that's an Old English Sheepdog website-OES. They have several websites but OES.org is my favorite. Among other things they have thousands of pix of sheepdogs that members put in-some of them are really a riot as sheepdogs can really be clowns-the clowns of the dog world!
