Well you see it was like this... Harry had a very bad habit of Farting in his sleep. It only got worse as he grew older.. No one in his immediate family could take it any longer. The only people that could tolerate the smell were the Dursleys having had Uncle Vernon and Dudley and their own Gas issues all their lives. So you see he just blended right in.
